Vikings pour it on after the 3rd inning and cruise to a win
The Vikings started slowly, scoring a run in the 1st on a based loaded walk and another in the 2nd on an outfield error. While the Red Sox held the Vikings to only 2 earned runs in the next 2 innings, defensive miscues resulted in a 10-0 Vikings lead. Erik Amspacher had an RBI single in the 2-run 3rd; and, in the 6-run 4th, Josh Fishel had a 2-run double for his 3rd and 4th RBIs of the game. On the mound, Jose Vega was shutting down the Red Sox bats. After a little control trouble in the 1st when he loaded the bases on walks, Vega allowed only 2 hits over his 4 shutout innings. In the 5th, the Red Sox loaded the bases on 3 walks to start the inning when Jason Barmore hit a single to right, knocking in 1 run; but a 2nd runner was thrown out at the plate on the play and the Vikings got out of the inning without further damage. The Vikings then scored 5 in the bottom of the inning, all with 2 outs, with the last 3 scoring on a Jose Vega triple. The Sox added 2 more runs with the help of a few errors in the 6th. The Vikings put the game away with 6 two-out runs in the 6th, with the big hits being a 2-run single by Valentin Ramos, an RBI double by Joshua Reeser, and a 2-run single by Adrian Ferrer.
Ferrer was the star of the game, going 4 for 5 with 3 runs and 4 RBIs. Reeser was the 2nd star, going 3 for 3 with 3 runs, 3 RBIs, 2 doubles and a walk. Mike Freed and Mark Vottero added 3 hits each, scoring 6 of the 21 runs between them. Finally, Vega and Ramos each had 2 hits and 2 runs, while Vega and Fishel had 4 RBIs.
