Indians turn 5 double plays in low-scoring win over Orioles
The Orioles took an early lead in the top of the 2nd on Ernie Millon's RBI single. A 5-3 double play would end the Orioles' 2nd, after a line out double play ended the Orioles' 1st. After a leadoff single in top of the 3rd, the Indians turned a 6-4-3 double play for their 3rd double play in 3 innings. In the bottom of the inning, the Indians bats started waking up. With 2 outs and no one on, Ryan Chataginer singled and scored when Rick Thompson followed with a double to tie the game. In the 4th, the Indians would pull ahead on an RBI single by Chad Moser, but the Orioles would cut down the runner trying to go from 1st to 3rd to snuff out the rally. In the 5th, the Indians found a little breathing room, scoring twice on a bases loaded walk and a Kyle Lentz RBI single; but the Orioles turned a 4-3 double play to limit the damage to 2 runs. Down 4-1, the Orioles got runners on 1st and 3rd with one out in the 6th. A hard grounder to short was flipped to the 2nd baseman for the 2nd out and then thrown home to nail the runner trying to score from 3rd for a 6-4-2 double play. The Indians added an insurance run in the 6th on a Jared Grim sac fly. In the 7th, the Orioles scored on a Travis Eberly RBI single to make it 5-2 and had runners on 1st and 2nd with one out to bring the tying run to the plate, but a 4-3 line drive double play ended the game.
Four Indians had 2 hits in the victory--Chaz Ruth, Chataginer, Lentz and Moser. Chataginer also pitched 4 innings to pick up the win, allowing only 1 run on 5 hits.
