Colt 45s use a 4-run 6th to secure win over Cubs
The Cubs' Anthony Kim led off the game with a double, then Brandon Beck struck out the side to keep the Cubs off the board. The Colt 45s' Joel Kauffman also led of the bottom of the 1st with a double and scored immediately on Troy Absher's single. The Colt 45s would load the bases with one out but Dave Warfel wriggled out of the jam with a strike out and fly out. In the 2nd inning, both teams' defenses would struggle. The Cubs scored 3 runs with 2 outs on an RBI double by their extra player and a 2-run error. The Colt 45s used a Josh Knaub leadoff double and 3 Cubs errors to tie the game at 3 after 2 innings. Both Beck and Warfel would close out their 4 innings with 2 shutout innings, each allowing only 1 more hit. The Colt 45s pulled ahead 4-3 in the 5th on another unearned run, but then they would make their runs the old-fashioned way in the 6th--they earned them! The first 5 batters reached base, scoring runs on a Beck RBI single, an Andrew Shaull 2-run single, and a Joel Kauffman sac fly to open up an 8-3 lead. The Cubs added one run in the 7th on a Danny Rosado RBI single but Cory Metzbower closed the door before they could get any closer to pick up the save.
Troy Absher had 2 hits for the Colt 45s. Chuck Murphy had 2 hits for the Cubs.
