Brew Crew win despite only 2 hits by pitching 4-hit shutout

After 4 innings, neither team had a hit in this game, but that didn't stop the Brew Crew from taking the lead with some wildness on the mound for the Vikings. The first 3 batters of the game reached on walks, but the Vikings got out of the inning unscathed by turning a 5-2-4 double play followed by a strikeout. The Brew Crew started the 2nd inning with another walk, followed by 2 strikeouts--then the wheels fell off the bus. A hit batter followed by 4 straight walks gave the Brew Crew a 3-0 lead--still without a hit--and brought about a pitching change for the Vikings. Meanwhile, Barak Gohn pitched 4 perfect innings for the Brew Crew, while striking out 4. In the top of the 5th, Colby Neuman of the Brew Crew lined a single to left center for the first hit of the game, but was immediately thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. The Vikings would also get their first hit of the game in the fifth, and added two more two-out singles to load the bases, threatening to cut into the Brew Crew's lead, but Mark Lomenzo got a strikeout to keep the shutout intact. In the 6th, the Brew Crew extended the lead on a clutch 2-out, 2-run single by Skylar Hamill--the 2nd and last hit of the game for the Brew Crew--after the Vikings walked the bases loaded. In the 7th, the Vikings put runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out in an attempt to come back, but Lomenzo induced a pop-up and ground out to complete the shutout and collect the save.

The Vikings' Jeff Tomison was the only player with 2 hits in a game with only 6 total hits. Paulie Pittinger reached in every plate appearance with 3 walks for the Brew Crew. Josh Fishel pitched 3.1 scoreless innings for the Vikings, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts.
