Vipers Win With Shields Strong Pitching And Timely Hitting
This series deciding game was a continuation from Monday, July 7th. Both teams were strong on the hill on Thursday, but the Allegheny Vision Vipers defeated Quinn Construction 3-2 at Baker Field. Derrick Shields started the game for Allegheny Vision Vipers and dazzled recording 21 outs in his complete game performance. Shields struck out 12 batters in the game, allowed five hits and two runs over seven innings while walking four. The Vipers got on the board in the third inning after Alex Arrigo singled, scoring one run. Chase Palmer roped a double to the center field wall, scoring one in the bottom of the forth inning. Then Devin Donaldson hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 3-0. The Mudcats scratched one run in each the 6th and 7th innings, but the Vipers minimized the damage to retain the lead and secure the victory. Ty Matey took the loss for Quinn Construction, the reliever, yet only a 10th grader, went four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out one and walking one. Corry Ryan led things off on the bump for Quinn Construction, the starter allowed one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Allegheny Vision Vipers's Crawford led the team with two hits in three at bats. Donaldson, Palmer and Arrigo each drove in one run for the Vipers. This Vipers victory secured the regular season series win between these two clubs.
