Dayton Deluge Drowns Mets' Comeback in Rain-Delayed Stunner
After a stormy start and a month-long pause, the Dayton Ducks exploded for seven runs in the first inning en route to a 10?7 win over the previously unbeaten Cincinnati Mets. The game, suspended due to rain after just one inning a month earlier, resumed on July 23, where the Ducks held off a late surge by the Mets to secure their first victory.
The Ducks ambushed Mets' starter Brian Biggs, tagging him for seven first-inning runs while recording only one out. The game was suspended after the first inning due to rain. A month later the Mets clawed back, sparked by a five-run fourth inning and supported by the bats of Rick Reynolds (2-for-3, RBI), Joe Arnold, and Dave Schultian (triple, RBI), but the damage was done early. The Mets' four defensive errors and starting pitching performance sank the Mets' hopes of remaining undefeated.
In the seventh, the Ducks tacked on two insurance runs off reliever Schultian to seal the deal. The Mets added one in the bottom half but ultimately unable to complete the comeback.
