Sox send Chihuahuas to South Side Pound!

The Burlington White Sox won big over the Burlington Chihuahuas (of Dundas) 10-4 on Sunday night at Millcroft Park.

It was a rought start for the road Sox with some tomfoolery in the top of the first. Jordan Stamp did Jordan Stamp type things leading the game off with a walk and stolen base. Promptly followed up with a Tanner Hodgson K while yelling "balk" mid swing (and forgetting to make contact). Not to be out done and to keep the attention right where he likes it (on himself), Stamp immediately followed up with a seductive dance just off 2-bag that created a buzz of cat-calls but also resulted in the leadoff man being picked off at 2nd by Jacob Grima.

The Chihuahuas jumped out to a quick start as leadoff man Nick Fader doubled deep to right centre off of potential come back player of the year Sean Kretz. He managed to avoid being picked off altogether which allowed early MVP favourite Kalli Einarson enough time to single, and score Fader and take the 1-0 lead.

The Sox quickly made the score 4-1 in the top of the second. After Grima had a momentary lapse in control and plunked both Josh Cossitt and Tyler Windisch, B-Mac made him pay with a smashed double to left centre, scoring two runs. B-Mac made a heads up play on the throw to the plate and also took 3rd! This allowed for Dylan "Pedro" Grosul to do what POs do and ground out for the solid RBI. Toons then started things again as he walked, stole 2nd and put himself in position for Ben "Pizzaman" Singh (known around the GTA as "Ben E") to single, on an 0-2 count and score Toons for the 4th cross of the inning.

Call up sensation Jon Santos would lead off the 3rd inning for the Chihuahuas and not disappoint as he hit a screaming double down the RF line. This would be the early exclamation point for Santos who would go on to hit 3 balls very hard for a 3-3 day! After the Sox would manage to record 2 outs Christian Parker would come through clutch with a 2 out liner to score the sizzling Santos and make the score 4-2 after 3 innings played.

The Sox would respond with a run in the top of the 4th. "Better" Windisch hit a screaming single to LF and then would score after a PB and 2 groundouts. Yawn!

The big inning for the Sox was in the top of the 5th. Converted outfielder Kalli Einarson would come in for the relief effort and promptly give up a crooked 5 spot. Ben E singled with one out. Stamp recorded his 2nd (of 3) walks and that set the table for Tanner Hodgson. #27 would redeem his earlier gaffe and smash a triple, scoring two runs. That would be followed up with a clutch single from Brett "The Hitman" Graham and then a 2nd triple of the inning, blistered off the bat of J-Lay. When the dust cleared 5 runs had scored and the Sox had a 10-2 lead.

Sean Kretz earned the win for the Burlington White Sox. Sean has struggled a bit early on as he comes back from injury and almost a year off in the Oasis. But he has worked hard to return to his previous form and once again looks great in a speedo! The starter gave up seven hits and two runs over four innings, striking out five and walking two.

Ben Grima took the loss for the Burlington Chihuahuas. The pitcher went four innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits, striking out three and walking three.

Dylan Grosul appeared in relief for the Sox and finished off the win. Pedro is also shaking off some rust and coming off of multiple years with injuries. He is starting to ramp things up though and if the Sox can play at least some defence behind him Dylan will undoubtedly return to the prominent form we have all come to expect from him! Dylan pitched 2 innings on the evening, giving up 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) and striking out 2. Pedro also ended the game with a defensive knockdown off the quad and a flip to 1st to seal it! Ouch!

The White Sox accumulated 10 hits total in the game. Hodgson and Singh each collected two hits for Burlington. Hodgson and B-Mac each drove in two runs. Jordan Stamp stole two bases. The speedy Sox stole four bases all together.

The Chihuahuas tallied 10 hits total in the game as well. Einarson provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Burlington (of Dundas) with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 3-for-3 on the day. Einarson and Call up Jon Santos each collected three hits for the Chihuahuas. Nick Fader also collected two hits in three at bats.

The White Sox welcome the Snipers next on Tuesday in a home-and-home series to cap off the week.
