Gardiner Patrols CF and Shuts Down Sox!
The Burlington White Sox fell 5-2 to the Stoney Creek Snipers on Thursday at Glanbrook Park. Mitch Gardiner strengthened his bid for GHBL Defensive Player of the Year as he covered an incredible amount of ground and robbed the Sox of at least 3 hits in the game!
The Sox did manage 9 hits in the game, capped by a Jack Moncur dinger to left field. But every time the Sox would start to rally and gain momentum it was shut down by a strong Sniper OF defense.
Chris Banko earned the win for Snipers. The hurler allowed 7 hits and 2 runs over 5 and 1/3 innings, striking out 1 and walking none.
Dylan "Pedro" Grosul took the loss for the Burlington White Sox. The starter went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits, striking out 6 and walking none.
Ben Kirby came in and earned the save for Stoney Creek. The righty gave up 2 hits over 1 1/3 innings, striking out 1 and walking none.
The Sox tallied 9 hits in the game. Jordan Stamp and Jack Moncur each drove in 1 run for Burlington. Jack led Burlington with two hits.
Troy Valeriano drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Snipers with 3 runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Mitch Gardener and David Vanderby were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected 2 hits for Stoney Creek.
Next up for the White Sox is a game against the 2nd place Hamilton Pirates on Thursday.
