Snipers Hit Bullseye Ending Sox Year Long Win Streak
Since May 30th 2024 the Burlington White Sox had not lost a single game. Over 2 seasons the Sox had managed to win 27 consecutive games. That all came to an end Thursday night at the hands of the Stoney Creek Snipers. The Snipers eked out a win over the White Sox by a 4-3 score at Glanny. Glanbrook Park, where field lights, win streaks and the game of baseball all go out to die!
The Snipers were the first to get on the board in the first when James Toman singled, scoring one run. A double by Mitch Gardiner extended the Snipers lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
That score would hold until the top of the 6th inning. Benny and J-Lay would tally back-to-back singles and eventually tie the game up on consecutive errors by the Snipers infield.
Stoney Creek would answer right back in the bottom half of the inning as Eric Valeriano clutched up with a 2-out single to score Banko and Gardiner. The Snipers had the lead again, 4-2, after 6 inning.
The Sox would not go quietly. POs Pedro and ODC would both single with 1 out to put the tying runs on respectively. 3rd consecutive PO Lisac would walk to then load the bases. B-Mac legged out a fielder's choice to score 1 but the Sox did not have enough magic to complete the comeback and fell short with a 4-3 final score.
Damian Clarke stepped on the bump first for the Snipers. The starter allowed four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two.
David Vanderby earned the win (and blown save) for the Snipers. The right-handed pitcher gave up four hits and three runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking one.
Sean Kretz started for Burlington. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one.
Charlie Lisac took the loss for the Sox. The pitcher went one inning, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one and walking one.
Doug "ODC" Chrysler and Dylan "Pedro" Grosul were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Burlington and brought great production to the bottom of the Sox order. Jordan "Windy" Windisch, Brandon "B-Mac" MacKay, and Tyler "Better" Windisch each drove in one run for Burlington.
The Burlington White Sox turned one double play in the game. The Sox also didn't commit a single error in the field. Alex Pallottini had the most chances in the field with seven.
The Stoney Creek Snipers amassed nine hits in the game. Eric Valeriano drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Snipers with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Gardiner and Clarke each collected two hits for Stoney Creek. The Snipers also turned one double play in the game.
Over the 2 game series the running game seemed to be the biggest difference maker for the Snipers with the Sox surrendering 4 total stolen bases. A usually air-tight shutdown catching core needs to step up moving forward in order for the Sox to start another long win streak!
Next up for the Burlington White Sox is a game against the Milton Dodgers on Tuesday night at Ireland.
