Game 9- Quinn Construction Takes Game 1 of DNL Finals
Allegheny Vision struck first in the 1st inning when Devin Donaldson reached on an error and came home on a Mac Ciocco double to go up 1-0. Quinn Construction answered that emphatically with five runs in the top of the second. Mike Huber lead off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a Bert Kovalsky single. Zane Griffaton laid down a perfect bunt single to load up the bases. Two ground balls put the Mudcats up 2-1. Singles by Tarran Senay, Jim Pasquine and a double by Eric Morrison extended the lead to 5-1. In the bottom half of the 2nd inning, Quinn Construction gave it all back. Another error cost the Mudcats dearly. With one out and no one aboard, Chase Palmer reached first on a throwing error. Singles by Dan Boehme, Alex Arrigo, Donaldson, and Ciocco put the Vipers back on top 6-5. The Mudcats tied up the score in the 4th. Aidan Munsie was plunked and scored on an Morrison single to right field making it 6-6. The Vipers threatened in the bottom half of the 4th but were turned away. Starting pitcher, Luke Hils, walked Arrigo and was then relieved by Griffaton. Nick Arnoni greeted Griffaton with a flare to right center putting runners on first and second with no outs. Griffaton got Donaldson to pop up a bunt to catcher Corey Kuszaj, who made a phenomenal running catch behind home plate. The runners moved up on a passed ball and then Griffaton picked off Arrigo at third base. A Ciocco fly out to centerfield would end the inning with no damage allowed. Allegheny Vision would take the lead in the bottom half of the 5th. Dave Boehme lead off the inning with a single and moved to third on a walk and a HBP. A wild pitch would bring home Boehme with the go ahead run, 7-6. In the top of the 7th inning, Quinn Construction exploded for four runs to once again take back the lead. Morrison reached on an error and moved to second with a Dylan Kugler walk. Huber hit a slow roller to the right side moving the runners up to second and third. The Vipers decided to walk Bert Kovalsky to load the bases. Griffaton struck again as he laid down a bunt that eluded everyone for the game tying run. Kuszaj brought home the go ahead run when his ground ball was misplayed on the double play attempt. Munsie brought home another run with a ground ball to short, making it 10-7. With one out in the bottom of the 7th, a batter's ejection caused a delay and the lights went out, which prevented the game from continuing. The contest had to be finished the next day at Winklevoss Park before game 2. There, Brody Simmons came on in relief of Griffaton and got two quick outs to end the game. Griffaton was the winner for Quinn Construction. Reliever, Noah Scheel, took the loss for the Vipers in relief of Derrick Shields who tossed 6+ innings. Morrison, Pasquine, Huber, and Griffaton all had two hits for the Mudcats. Ciocco had two hits for the Vipers.
