Brew Crew hurlers tame potent Indians offense to move on
After a scoreless first, the Brew Crew started the scoring with 2 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on RBI singles by Marc Jankowski and Jake Gohn. The score almost stayed that way through 4 innings. Barak Gohn pitched 4 scoreless innings for the Brew Crew and allowed only 2 hits with 5 strikeouts. The Indians got 2 outs in the fourth inning with runners on 1st and 3rd, but then the Brew Crew opened up a can of singles with the bottom 5 players in the lineup smacking 5 consecutive RBI singles (Paulie Pittinger, Marc Jankowski, Skylar Hamill, Jake Gohn and Ed Hamill). A sixth straight single by Jordan Jacobs and a bases loaded walk by Colby Neuman followed to make the score 8-0 before a fly out to left field ended the inning. Mark Lomenzo picked up where Barak Gohn left off, pitching 2 scoreless innings in the 5th and 6th to bring the Brew Crew within 3 outs of the championship. Lomenzo also contributed an RBI double in the 5th to give the Brew Crew a 9-0 lead. But the Indians would not go without a fight. The first 2 batters reached in the 7th and scored on a 1-out, 2-run triple by Ryan Chataginer. Rick Thompson followed with an RBI double to make it 9-3. After a ground out, two walks loaded the bases to keep the spark alive for the Indians, but a comebacker to the pitcher snuffed the threat and sent the Brew Crew to the championship.
Lomenzo, Justin Long, Jankowski and Jake Gohn led the Brew Crew with 2 hits each. Rick Thompson led the Indians with 2 of their 5 hits in the game.
