Bulls & Cubs battles are epic!
Pitchers battle between Cubs starter Armando Romo (5 IP / 0 ER) and Bulls starter Alex Smith (6 IP / 2 R). Both were sharp, with a few good plays behind them.
The Bulls scored early, keyed by a couple of Cub errors and led 1-0 until the 6th, when Jose Rodriguez doubled in 2 runs to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead. The score stayed that way until the bottom of the 8th when the Bulls took over. Jones led off by getting on base on an error, took 2nd on a balk and scored on an Ian Durham single to tie the game at 2 apiece. Durham then stole 2nd base and scored on a single by John LaMoure. With the Bulls clinging to a 3-2 lead, they called on closer Durham to hold down the Cubs. Jose Rodriguez led off the 9th with a single, which was followed by a ground out moving Rodriguez into scoring position. This brings up Mark Todd, who already had 2 hits in the game. He hits a bullet line shot (at least 100 MPH off the bat) straight back to the box, where somehow Durham gloved it, turned and threw to 2nd for the game ending, Championship winning double play. Great game by two very good teams!
