Expos surprise Dragons in First Round matchup
The first ever playoff game for the 50s Expos turned into a win as the Fireball fifth that often plagued the Expos turned into a barrage of hits after a leadoff walk by Steve Kruzel. Three successive hits by the top of the order, a missed play on the infield another hit and Sac fly plated six runs which is all the Expos would need to double up the three scattered runs given up by Expos starting pitcher Todd Garula. Relief pitcher, Jim Wolfe shout down the Dragons in the final frames.
Tom Brown pitched a masterful four innings and until the Expos 5th. Dragons relief pitcher gave up two insurance runs to the Expos. Jim Wolfe was 3 for 4 at the plate including a walk and leadoff triple in the sixth inning. Don Eckstein, Shay Burnett, John Wayne and catcher Jamie Stidham all had multiple hits.
Baserunning also plagued the Dragons on this Sunday afternoon. Pitcher Todd Garula picked off two runners and catcher Stidham forced a caught stealing in the 5th inning to end the inning.
Next up for the Expos is an evening match up on Sunday against the league leading Mets at Ross Park.
