Huskies walk - off Frogs to open State
The Huskies opened their 2025 state tournament with a dramatic win in front of the home crowd on Friday night. After trading runs, the Huskies took a 3-1 into the 5th, with RBI's from Jake Wendland and Tyler Schiller. Bird Island answered back with 2 and chased starter Zach Kuseske from the mound. Scott Lieser from St. Martin stepped in and shutdown the Frogs. 9th innings wasn't enough as the game went to the 10th. Bird Island scratched one across to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom half, Matt Piechowski led off with a single and advanced to 2nd on sacrifice from Jayden Fleck. Tyler Schiller eventually singled to tie it and Wendland moved up to 3rd. With the basesloaded and one out, Marcus Hahn delivered a high single to leftfield to end the game. Lieser picked up the win in relief, striking out 7. Hutchinson moves to the quarterfinals next weekend.
