Allegheny Vision Sweeps Bulldogs In Pitchers Duel

The Allegheny Vision Vipers edged the Bulldogs 2-1 on Monday evening in a tightly contested pitchers duel at Baker Field, where timely hitting and dominant pitching proved to be the difference. Both clubs received outstanding performances on the mound, but it was Vipers starter Matt Bamford who set the tone early and carried his team to victory. Bamford worked six strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out nine and walking two. He recorded 18 outs and consistently kept the Bulldogs offense from building momentum. The Bulldogs struck first in the top of the opening inning when Ryan Roell delivered an RBI single to give his club a 1-0 advantage. That would be the only run Bamford would allow all night. The Vipers answered in the bottom of the second inning. Nick Arnoni put pressure on the defense and grounded into a fielder's choice that brought home the tying run, knotting the score at 1-1. Allegheny Vision grabbed the lead for good an inning later. In the bottom of the third, Adam Crawford lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing the go-ahead run to score and giving the Vipers a 2-1 edge. From there, the Vipers pitching staff took control. Bamford handed the ball over to Ethan Tinker, who closed the door with a scoreless seventh inning to earn the save and secure the victory. Stefan Mrkonja was tough in defeat for the Bulldogs, allowing just two runs only one earned over five innings while surrendering four hits and issuing three walks. Offensively, Elias Lippincott paced the Vipers from the leadoff spot, going 2-for-3 and accounting for half of the teams hits. Crawford and Arnoni each drove in a run in the winning effort. For the Bulldogs, Roell led the charge at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI. Defensively, the Bulldogs also turned a double play to help keep the game within reach. In the end, the Vipers made the most of their opportunities and leaned on a dominant outing from Bamford to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
