Opening Day Fireworks
The Ducks and Expos provided plenty of hits (33 combined) and both teams wondered who might plate more runs. The Ducks battled back from a seven-run deficit and plated four runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead by 3. With two outs, the bases loaded and down by two, Jim Wolfe hit his third triple of the game scoring three in walk-off fashion. The game went 7 hours and 20 minutes before a standing room only crowd of 2,000 at Schueler Park. For those reading this far, the game really ended with the lights turned on, at time-limit, and about 8 fans who wandered in off the street to see the fireworks. Duck's catcher Dave Geiger nearly hit for the cycle (missed a HR) and Mike Maury scored three times. Wolfe added five RBI's on the night, John Wayne reached base four times, and Toby Lay was 2-4 with a double. Expos Manager, Dave Moravec commented after the game, "Who turned the lights out before I was able to lock up all the gates?"
