Sanders Fires Complete-Game Shutout as Reds Top Mets 6-0
Jeff Sanders delivered a masterful performance on Sunday, throwing a complete-game shutout to lead the Wright Field Reds past the Cincinnati Mets 6-0. Sanders scattered five hits, walked none, and struck out six, keeping the Mets off balance all afternoon.
The Reds built their lead early with five runs in the second and third innings. Chris Fine and Lonnie Robinson each scored twice, while Aaron Hillis drove in two. Mel Spangler and Fine doubled as part of a 12-hit effort, and Matt Humphrey added two hits, a steal, and a sacrifice.
For Cincinnati, Jody Schultian took the loss after allowing five runs in three innings, while Kyle Hensley impressed in relief with four innings, six strikeouts, and no earned runs. Despite six singles, the Mets couldn't break through against Sanders' steady command.
