Expos Comeback Falls Short

After jumping out to a 4-0 lead after four, the Tigers battled to hold back an Expos rally in the sixth and seventh innings to win 6-4 at Warren County Sports Park before a sparse crowd of two fans.

Tiger pitcher Shawn Smith and Expos starter Tom Siebert both went the distance in this epic rivalry and pitcher's duel that wasn't without dramatics. Ironman catcher Dave Moravec took a foul tip off his open hand, sending screams that could be heard for miles...well, not really that far, but maybe by the adjacent players on the Reds-Ducks game at field 4. LOL.

Expos right fielder Scott Vollrath suffered a game-ending hamstring injury, being removed from the game for a late-inning Tiger substitution as a courtesy, which didn't allow the Expos slugger to bat his final time. This event meant the Expos left the tying runs on second and third in the seventh, as Smith induced the two final outs from Moravec and Siebert.

The Tigers (8-4-1) still have three games remaining, while the Expos finish their season at .500 (8-8).
