A Clash of Champs Did not Disappoint As Tier 1 Stays on Top!
The Burlington White Sox were triumphant over the home Dundas Chiefs 6-5 on Sunday night at Volunteer Field. An epic back-and-forth battle between the tier 1 and tier 2 champions respectively!
The Chiefs started early to get on the board in the 1st inning. GHBL star player (and probable 2026 tier 1 MVP), Dylan Corsini homered to left field, scoring 2 runs.
The Burlington White Sox would respond in the top of the 2nd inning. After walks were issued to Tyler Windisch and Josh Cossitt (and following a wild pitch to advance both runners), Ben "Benny" Singh would hit an absolute rocket line drive to left centre field. What should have been an easy double (or even triple) (that was a matter of feet from going over the fence), instead was caught on a complete layout dive by CF Jordan Robinson! An incredible catch that limited the Sox to a sac fly and one run. Catch of the year thus far and likely could hold up as the best of 2026 when it is all said and done!
The White Sox would take the lead in the top of the 3rd. After a Toons walk, Tanner Hodgson went nuclear for a no doubt 2 run bomb! The Sox would gain the upper hand, 3-2.
The Dundas Chiefs promptly took the lead back in the bottom of the 4th. Dylan Corsini continued his quest for MVP with a 1 out rocket line drive single to LF. Alex Rich would follow that up with a deep double to CF, scoring Corsini and tying the game 3-3. Rich would advance to 3rd on the same play after an arrant relay throw. A subsequent wild pitch would see the Chiefs score again to take the lead 4-3.
Burlington took the lead again, 5-4, in the top of the 5th. Benny would get his revenge on the Chiefs earlier robbery with a well placed double to RF. A soft single from Cossitt SR would plate Singh and tie the game. Cossitt SR would later score the go ahead run with some impeccable wheels after a single to RF from Toons.
The White Sox would tack on to their lead in the top of the 6th with some patient hitters and aggressive base running. J-Lay, "Better" Windisch and Puerto Rico Moncur would all walk. The run would come from J-lay after a stolen base and cashing in on a wild pitch.
The Chiefs would make it very interesting in the 7th with the top of the order up. The MVP incumbent, Dylan Corsini was plunked to lead things off. Alex Rich would then clutch up with a single. After a fielders choice, team captain, Harrison Corsini would hit a SAC to LF and make the score 6-5. But with a runner on the Sox were able to wiggle out of the rally and hold on for the tight win!
Doug Chrysler earned the win for the Burlington White Sox. The veteran starting pitcher surrendered 5 hits and 4 runs (3 earned) over 5 innings, striking out 4 and walking 1.
Colton Roberts started on the mound for the Dundas Chiefs. The right-handed pitcher allowed 1 hit and 3 runs over 3 innings, striking out 5 and walking 4.
Alex Davey took the loss for Dundas. The hurler went 2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1.
Tanner Hodgson earned the hold with a dominant inning on the bump. The righty threw 12 pitches, facing the minimum and striking out 2.
Sean Kretz collected the save. The inning was dicey but Kretz was able to focus in and ended the game on a K.
Tanner Hodgson provided the pop in the middle of the lineup for the Sox. Much needed pop too! After 3 games it is clear the the White Sox are not hitting. Perhaps age and 4 long playoff runs have caught up to the tier 1 champs? Hodgson provided the bang that made the engine go! Even more bang then the grenade thrown by Jordan Windisch, almost killing White Sox legend Doug Chrysler in the Ireland parking lot! Hodgson's 2 RBIs led the squad.
Cossitt SR, Toons and Benny collected 1 hit each for Burlington.
The Sox had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 10 walks for the game. "Better" Windisch, Cossitt JR, and Dante led the team with 2 free passes each.
Alex Rich and Dylan Corsini were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected 2 hits for Dundas while hitting back-to-back. Dylan Corsini went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with 2 runs batted in.
Next up for the Sox! A trip to Milton on Sunday June 7th in a match up against the Milton A's!
