Sox Scope "Shades of Gray" in Win Over Snipers!
The Burlington White Sox were in rare form with a big win over the Stoney Creek Snipers 15-4 on Thursday at the dreaded Glanbrook field.
Probably attributed to some new strategy tactics from lead Sox tactician Tyler Windisch. Tyler had the squad deploy what's known as the "shades of gray" method. Although not the most visually appealing technique no one can argue the success yielded when deployed!
The White Sox jumped out to the lead in the top of the 1st inning after Brett Graham hit an absolute no doubt bomb to LF, scoring 2 runs. That seemed to set the tone as the Sox would then start a 2nd rally! Jordan Windisch singled, J-Lay singled, Cossitt Jr got plunked and the bases were loaded. Jack Moncur then followed up with a single, scoring 2 runs, and Ben Singh capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly, scoring 1 run. The sac fly was a laser beam line drive that should have been a double if not for a fantastic play from Eric Valeriano!
After the Snipers responded in the bottom half of the 1st with 1 run, Burlington added to their early lead in the top of the 2nd inning as well. Pedro walked to lead things off. Hodgson would then double to move runners to 2nd and 3rd. Graham would then pick up his 3rd RBI of the day with a sac fly. J-Lay would later hit a fielder's choice to cash the 2nd run of the inning.
The Snipers would then make a big push in the bottom of the 2nd inning to plate 3 runs and a 7-4 score after just 2 innings.
Burlington would put the game out of reach with a crooked 7 runs in the top of the 4th inning. Uncle Reco walked to start things. Benny would then double hard to LF to set up 2nd and 3rd. Cossitt Sr would hit a hard line drive through the field umpires wickets but the steady Vanderby would snag that and easily make the throw to 1st, plating only 1 run. Pedro would then walk again followed up with walks to Graham and Jordan. J-Lay then singled to score 1. Two more walks to "Better" Windisch and Cossitt Jr to plate 1 more. Then Puerto Rico Moncur would hit a hard single to RF to plate 2 more and cap the huge inning!
The Sox would add the the lead with another run in the 5th. Cossitt Sr would lead things off with a hard single to LF. Tanner would walk, Graham would single and then Jordan would walk yet again to plate Sr.
Doug Chrysler earned another win for Burlington. The veteran pitcher allowed 5 hits and 4 runs (1 earned) over 4 innings, striking out 1 and walking 1. ODC also had some control issues on a sand dune known as "the mound", hitting an uncharacteristic 2 batters.
Russell Stevens took the loss for Stoney Creek. The starting pitcher went 2 innings, allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits, striking out 1 and walking 1.
Dylan "Pedro" Grosul mopped up for the Sox until time expired. He pitched 2 innings of scoreless ball for Burlington in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking none, despite only having use of 2 of the 5 digits on his throwing hand. Pedro had been involved in a serious altercation with a stove and a lasagna just hours before the contest. He had lost that altercation badly but bounced back with a White Sox win to salvage the day!
The Burlington White Sox accumulated 10 hits in the game. "Puerto Rico" Moncur led the Sox with 4 ribbies despite being in the number 7 spot in the lineup. The infielder ended up 2-for-3 on the day and tied for the lead in hits in the game with J-Lay and Graham. The White Sox continued the early season trend with a strong eye at the plate, amassing 9 walks for the game. Jordan and Pedro led the team with 2 free passes each. The Sox have had a staggering 38 walks through the first 5 games of the season!
Brandon Lewis went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Stoney Creek in hits. David Vanderby, Brandon Lewis, and Russell Stevens each drove in 1 run for the Snipers.
Next up for Burlington will see the Sox host the tribe from Dundas on Tuesday night at Ireland Park.
