Sox Make History! 1st Woman to Play in Tier 1 GHBL Game!
The team with 4 straight championships has done it again! Proud to be able to state that we have the most senior player in Tier 1 history (at 55)! Now the Burlington White Sox are honoured and proud to be able to boast that we have crossed the gender barrier in Tier 1 and were lucky enough to sign the 1st woman in GHBL Tier 1 history!
Her name is Amanda Landry. Amanda is a crafty middle infielder who showed well in her 1st official game. Landry saw a high volume of action and did not disappoint, leading the squad with 3 assists and 2 put outs for 5 total chances! And Amanda's defensive leadership was probably the difference in the game as the Sox reached the rare feet of 0 errors committed in a game!
Ultimately this game was defined by great pitching and great defense! Both teams were strong on the hill on Sunday, but Burlington defeated Milton 3-2.
Sean Kretz started the game for the White Sox and recorded 21 outs for a CG victory! The lefty spread 8 hits and 2 runs while, striking out 7 and walking 1.
Jacob Siracusa started the game for the Dodgers and took a tough loss! The hard throwing righty surrendered 7 hits and 3 runs over 6 innings, striking out 6 and walking 8.
Adrian Cookson came in the 7th and gave the Dodgers a shot to come back in the bottom half. The young righty threw a clean innings with 2 strikeouts.
Jordan Windisch and J-Lay were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in 1 run for Burlington. J-Lay led the Sox with 2 hits in 4 at bats.
Burlington once again had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 8 walks for the game. Josh Cossitt and Dante Federico led the team with 2 free passes each.
Brandon Jones and KC Espana each collected 2 hits for Milton. KC Espana and Brendan Mahoney each drove in 1 run for the Dodgers.
Next up for the Burlington White Sox is a game against the Burlington Chihuahuas on Sunday night at Ireland Park.
