Team Effort Helps Quinn Construction To Comeback Win

The recent month long success of the two teams indicated a close contest should be expected. The Bulldogs and Quinn Construction entered their semi final series tonight at Winklevoss Park on a fantastic combined streak of 23 wins in the last 24 games. With each team playing 12 of those games, the Bulldogs were undefeated while Quinn's only loss was to the Bulldogs. Quinn's starter Deven Judy turned in two quick scoreless innings to start the game while Stefan Mrkonja did the same for the Bulldogs. Then the scoring began with all seven runs of the night coming over the next three innings. Things got a little strange as the defenses where not helping the pitchers, while pickoff plays helped offset the combined five errors in the game. The Bulldogs went out to the lead in the third when they started things off with a single from Andrew Vincent and two walks to load the bases with no outs. After recording a strikeout, it looked as if Judy would get out of the jam, but errors on consecutive ground balls sent the Bulldogs off to a 3-0 lead. The score stayed that way into the fourth when Judy had to bail out his defense. A one out error was quickly erased when Judy picked the runner going early off first base. After that, he then allowed only his second single of the game, but followed that up with an inning ending pick off. That was the spark Quinn Construction needed to get their offense going. Eric Morrison lead off with a single but raced to third as the ball got away from the Bulldog outfielder and scored when Jason Peterson singled. With two outs, Zane Griffaton lofted a fly ball that should have ended the inning, but instead the Bulldogs outfield misplayed it and turned it into a RBI double to make the score 3-2. The Mudcats followed that up with two more in the fifth to take the lead. Corey Kuszaj and Jim Pasquine began the inning with singles followed by a sacrifice bunt from Logan Simmons. Morrison evened the score next with a sacrifice fly before Peterson delivered a two out single up the middle to drive in the go ahead run. Griffaton then took over on the mound for Quinn to start the sixth but was in a two out jam after a walk and an error. The rally ended though when Morrison tracked down Zach Gray's fly ball on the warning track in center field. Neither team had a runner reach base in their final at-bats as Quinn Construction came away with the victory in game one of the best of three series. Peterson and Kuszaj lead the way at the plate with two hits each.
