Simcho's Walk Off Single In 9th Sends Mudcats Back To Finals

It wasn't raining, but there were Cats and Dogs going at it fiercely on Boyce Mayview Field Saturday afternoon. These Cats and Dogs were fighting for a spot in the DNL Finals. Quinn Construction outlasted the Bulldogs in nine innings. The Mudcats held an early 5-1 lead and a 6-3 lead in the 7th inning, but couldn't put the Bulldogs away in regulation. Quinn Construction needed five pitchers to win. Jim Pasquine and Dylan Mallozzi staked the Mudcats to a 5-1 lead after four innings. Mallozzi got into a jam in the 5th and turned it over to Zane Griffaton with bases loaded and no outs. Griffaton gave up a single to Isaac Santana to make it 5-3, but then got three consecutive outs to preserve the lead. Quinn Construction added a run in the 5th when Pasquine smacked a triple to score Aidan Munsie and make it 6-3. In the top of the 7th, the Mudcats turned to Corry Ryan to shut the door on the Dogs. A Santana single, a Zack Gray home run and another single by Brenden Gray quickly got Ryan pulled and replaced by Griffaton again. Griffaton retired two batters, but a ground ball to shortstop glanced off the glove and into the outfield knotting the score at 6-6. The game would stay that way until the 9th. Brody Simmons silenced the Bulldog bats in the 8th and 9th setting the stage for a Quinn Construction walk off win. In the bottom of the 9th, Jason Peterson got hit by a pitch and moved to third on an Eric Morrison single. The Bulldogs then intentionally walked Dylan Kugler to load the bases for Tom Simcho. The 55-year old veteran coach made them pay by chopping a single over the drawn-in infield and ending the game.
