Expos move on
In an epic rivalry between the 4th- and 5th-place finishers, the Expos outlasted the Tigers in a full 7-inning matchup. The Tigers did not score in the bottom of the 5th, the only half-inning in which runs were not produced. Tom Seibert and Shawn Smith both pitched six innings, with Rich Gilman and Jim Wolfe finishing, respectively, for the Tigers and Expos in the 7th. The Tigers finish their season with an 8-7-2 record, while the Expos move on to face the winner of tonight's Gems vs. Reds game. Pete DeLoit and Dave Moravec should receive players-of-the-game awards for their catching in 90-degree heat; a game ball went to winning pitcher Tom Seibert, who struck out 2 and didn't walk a hitter all night long.
