A's eliminated from SPAMtown with loss to Rochester

The last game of pool play saw the A's play the Rochester (MN) Royals on Saturday night. A win here would put the A's into Sunday's semi-finals of the SPAMtown Challenge, but a loss would leave their fate in the hands of a list of tie-breakers. The A's sent Brad Young to the mound and he matched the hard throwing lefty from Rochester threw three innings. In the 4th, the Royals took advantage of a bunt single and a misplayed bunt to plate two runs which would prove to be more than enough run support for the Rochester pitcher as he yielded just 4 hits for the game.

This left the A's fate of advancing to Sunday in the hands of a tie-breaker since Rochester(MN), Moorhead (MN), and the A's all went 2-1 in pool play with each team beating one another. As it turned out the A's came up short in the tie-breaker, as one more run scored or one less run allowed would have sent them into Sunday. Even still, it was another great experience for the A's to build off of for the rest of the year, and they look forward to a return trip in 2013.
