MARAUDERS REMAIN UNBEATEN IN LEAGUE PLAY
(from Eastcountysports.com)
MIRA MESA 12, MORSE 0 (5 inn.) – With significant losses by Torrey Pines, West Hills and Poway last week, the Marauders welcomed their inclusion at No. 2 in the U-T San Diego rankings by trouncing the host Tigers in Tuesday's (Apr. 24) Eastern League contest.
ALICIA GARCIA and LANI VANTA combined to toss a 1-hit shutout, as Morse opened the game with a leadoff bunt single by Allana Hille in the 1st. Garcia went on to toss three innings without allowing a basehit, while Vanta retired all six Tigers she faced to gain a save.
Meanwhile, after all the hoopla on Monday when Santana's KAYTI GRABLE jumped into 10th place on the CIFSDS career home run list, the Marauders' KATIYANA MAUGA bumped her back into 11th.
Mauga, the University of Arizona bound shortstop, pumped her 9th homer of the season, giving her a career total of 32. She is now tied for third all-time with Kaelin Sprawls (2008-11) of Palo Verde Valley in Blythe.
The section record is 41 by Oceanside 's Trina Harrison (2004-08).
Mauga went 3-for-4 against Morse, including a 2-run shot to centerfield in the 3rd to mount an 11-0 cushion. Earlier, Mira Mesa scored seven times in the 2nd for an 8-0 lead.
Vanta, who started at third base, stroked a pair of triples for the Marauders, including one that was good for a pair of RBI in the 2nd. Meanwhile, QUIRISA MAUGA batted a perfect 4-for-4, including a pair of run-scoring singles.
