Cubs Clubbed

The Cubs, fresh off their come from behind win last week got things going early with a two-run blast from Steve Birkett to go up two zip.
But the Yanks capitalized on some shaky Cub pitching by answering back with a five run first with just two hits. Yankee starter Scott Singleton settled down and held the Cubs to just two more runs while striking out 13! Jordan French was a single short of the cycle for the Cubbies only other highlight.
The pinstripes clean-up hitter Brian Trump was stifled early but ended up 3-5 including a towering blast in the sixth to give the Yanks a 9-4 lead.
Jeremy Koenig went 4-5 and Vince Teixeira 3-4 .
Dave Buss finally got a hit.
