Double Play Turns Into DBacks Weapon Over Diablos
Tinker to Evers to Chance has nothing on the Diamondbacks combo of SS James Espinosa, 2b Mike Thompson and 1b Dion Deas. The trio turned an amazing 5 double plays in the first six innings, all 6-4-3 twin putouts and they almost turned a sixth, but the umpire ruled Deas came off the bag late in the game. All of that defense supported an outstanding relief effort by both Scott Elliott (5 inn, 6 hits, 0 er, victory) and Jason McClure (3 inn, 5 hits, 3 runs, save) in the Dbacks win over the Diablos. The hot hitting of C Buck Grayson (4-for-4, double, 3 RBI), 3B Eddie Ballgame Barbini (3-for-3, 4 runs, 3 SBs), McClure (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Keith Metoyer (2-for-3, double) aided the cause. For the Diablos, Felix Pacheco batted 3-for-4 with a double and Tim LeCoz fought the Williams shift by going 2-for-4 with a double.
