Diamondbacks Defeat A's

The South Bay Athletics jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the surging Diamondbacks would score the next 20 runs unanswered to secure their fifth straight victory. 2B Derek Moore and 1b Mike Alcala combined to bat 8-for-10 with 4 doubles and 5 RBI in the first two spots of the order. CF Keith Metoyer slugged his team-leading third home run and 3B Eddie Barbini hit his first home run since the Kennedy administration. LF Robert Lewis slugged 3 doubles while SS James Espinosa was 3-for-5 with 2 ribbies. RF Matt Gallant added 2 hits and 3 RBI. Mike Thompson allowed just 7 hits over 7 innings, and struck out 7, including the side in the third inning. Like all of the teams in our division, the A's are a class group, and were playing short-handed with just 9 guys which affected the difference in score.
