St. John's Falls Short At Danvers High School, St. John's took to the road for a non-league match-up. The game was close all the way but a late Danvers surge ended with heartbreak for St. John's. Both teams would match baskets as the lead seesawed back and forth throughout the first quarter. Trailing by two, Nikki Spathanas, Reese Matela, and Sydney DeRoche would start a six point spurt to give St. John's an early lead. Danvers would battle back with an eight point surge to end the first quarter with a 10-8 lead. Neither team had much success offensively in the second quarter as they battled to a 7-7 tie. Vic Quagrello would score 4 points and grab two steals but also found herself in foul trouble as she picked up her third foul just before half-time. Danvers would strike first to open the third quarter. St. John's would execute a pefect out of bounds play for an easy Quagrello basket and Sydney DeRoche would hit a bank shot to keep it a two point game. Danvers would turn around and score six consecutive points to retake control. But St. John's would not go away. A Quagrello bank shot followed by a Matela inside lay up would cut the Danvers lead to 27-23 at the end of the 3rd Quarter. Quagrello would feed Matela again to start the 4th quarter just 11 seconds in. Reese Matela was proving to be a force as she blocked six shots and grabbed 6 rebounds as St. John's mounted a comeback. After a Danvers basket, Nikki Spathanas would hit a free throw followed by a long Quagrello 3-pointer to even the game at 29 with 4:47 to go. Jessie Ford's two made free throws would keep the game even. But it was not to be. Danvers would counter with an 8-1 run to put the game out of reach and take a hard fought 43-38 win. Vic Quagrello led St. John's in scoring with 14 points. Reese Matela grabbed 12 rebounds to go along with 7 blocks. With the loss, St. John's falls to 17-6 overall,10-3 in the league.
