8U Panthers Win Big On Kickoff Sunday
The East Orange Panthers 8U Squad wasted no time in sending a message to all comers that they are a force to be reckoned with. Led by QB Derrick "Peanut" Henderson, RB/DB La Di Da Simpkins, and RB/WR Messiah Bradley the Panthers were all business from the opening snap.
Henderson, marched his troops 65 yards in 6 plays with big runs from Simpkins, Bradley and WR Christopher Atkins. Henderson opened the scoring when he sprinted into the endzone from 35 yards out to give East Orange the early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
La Di Da Simpkins had something to prove as he broke several tackles and ate up valuable yards to a late second quarter 80 yard touchdown. But that wasn''''t all, he repeated the feat and matched the run with another 80 yard touchdown to begin the second half.
The Panthers were up 21-0 for the remainder of the third quarter and well into the final quarter. Union County was looking for a much needed stop with just under four minutes left in the game. The Panthers had other ideas and wanted to get one more score. Panthers RB Messiah Bradley found a crease to his right after being initially stopped in the backfield by the Warrior''''s defense. Switching the ball to his right hand he gave a stiff to a defender, bounced outside and galloped away from the Union County defensive secondary for the final 22 yard Score.
