The Texans survive the Broncos ride!
The Texans survive a wild ride with the Broncos as they won in the end 25-6! The Texans came in way to overconfident against a team that is as physical as anyone and due to the lack of focus and respect, the Texans allowed their first touchdown of the season. The game started with the Broncos receiving the ball and the Texans “unbreakable” defense took the field. The Texans defense did what they do best…..ATTACK! They pushed the Broncos line back and three straight plays resulted in three straight losses. The Broncos had to punt but Cody Lyons crashed through and got a piece of the ball, giving the Texans fantastic field position. On the first play, Alonzo Crawford weaved his way down to the 1 yard line and that is when the wheels fell off. Two straight plays, the Texans had false starts and then on what would have been a touchdown, they got a block in the back call. Two plays later, they had their 2nd block in the back penalty and the direction they were heading was the wrong way. The Texans stopped themselves and gave the ball back to the Broncos on a turnover on downs. Again, the Broncos offense couldn’t do anything to move the ball and after 4 plays the Texans had it in their hands once again. Now we were going to get it going……NOT! First play from scrimmage the Texans threw and interception, giving the Broncos the ball, once again. The defense was getting tired of being in the hot sun but again, they marched out on the field and dominated. The Broncos had to punt on 4th down once again. The punter got it off this time and as it came down; the Texans went to catch it, they bobbled the ball and got nailed. The Broncos pounced on it and had another opportunity fell into their lap as the Texans let it slip through their fingers. The 1st quarter ended in a 0-0 tie. Due to the defense being on the field so long, it looked as though the Broncos were finally going to get a drive going but on the second play, the Broncos running back squirted through the hole for about 10 yards, when Kiley Huddleston nailed him and the ball popped out and returned the favor to the Texans. This time the Texans offense refused to be denied and went on a 7 play drive which ended with Nicholas Mika following big Isaiah Edwards and Ramsey Fowler across the goaline for the first touchdown of the game. The extra point failed and the Texans lead 6-0. The Broncos got the ball back and were getting more and more confident. They started to wear the Texans defense out and were able to get their first 1st down. The defense bucked up and stopped the Broncos on the next series, giving the Texans another shot at the score before the half ended. The Texans offense, however, still wasn’t clicking on all cylinders. Blake Hirsch busted off a 12 yard gain but it had to come back due to a holding penalty. Then the center made a bad shotgun snap and the Texans were 20 yards behind where they started. After an incomplete pass and 40 seconds left on the clock, the Texans were at their 40 yard line and decided to see if they could break a big one….mistake. They tried to pull a reverse and the runner got hit when the ball squirted back another 10 yards and ultimately lost 20 yards on the play. The Broncos smelled their chance but the Texans defense wanted to respond. Unfortunately, the mental errors occurred and on the first play the Texans didn’t contain the Broncos running back and he broke off a 15 yard run down to the one yard line. Then on the very next play, once again the Texans forgot responsibilities and the end got around the other side and popped it in for the score with only 10 seconds left on the clock. The extra point failed but the Broncos did their damage as they tied it up 6-6. Kiley Huddleston almost returned the kickoff for the score due to some great blocking but was stopped on the 20 and the Texans tried to throw it in but where unsuccessful on the pass. The half ended in a 6-6 tie and the Texans sideline was silent.
