Sons of Italy Lions took on Sokol in the final game of the first round of the MSA Cup. The Lions needing a tie or win to advance, were 1-0 winners in the tight battle. With the victory the Lions won Group C and advance to the MSA Cup Semi-Final round on Sunday, August 17th. Sean Margison scored the lone goal in this match, when he flicked on a Tony Nocita free-kick. The Lions saw Sokol goalkeeper Kevin Krause make several strong saves in the second half, one of which came on a Justin Parry header which he deflected into the goal post keeping the game at 1-0. Steve Sawatzky returned to the net for the Lions recording the shutout.
