OB Hoops Academy Girls Participated in USA Regional Camp

Over the weekend, Madison St Rose and Olivia Palmer, two members of the Old Bridge Hoops Academy 7th/8th grade girls’ team joined other talented young ladies throughout the United States in grades 7th - 12th in an official USA Basketball Regional Camp at the Island Garden Basketball Sports Center in West Hempstead, NY.

The USA Basketball’s Girls Regional Camps combined on-court skills training and scrimmages with off-court educational and life skills sessions in a fun and competitive learning environment. The camp focused on basketball fundamentals as well as off-court sessions geared towards achieving maximum performance in sport and life. On court sessions also included 3x3 and five-on-five game play to further help players develop their skill sets.

The Northeast Regional Camp was directed by Ohemaa Nyanin, USA Basketball Women’s National Team Assistant Director, and 1980 U.S. Olympian Jill Rankin Schneider (Monterey H.S., Texas) as the lead clinician. In addition to serving as the lead clinician for the 2016 USA Basketball Midwest Regional Camp and the 2015 USA Basketball East Regional Camp, Schneider as head coach led USA Basketball women’s teams to gold medals at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship.

One of USA Basketball’s Youth Development initiatives, during a Regional Camp is to focus on helping young players of all skill levels improve fundamentals, while also learning about achieving maximum performance in sport and life.

OB Hoops Academy Represents at Brooklyn Nets Open Practice
The Brooklyn Nets hosted an Open Practice at Long Island University in Brooklyn on Saturday, Oct 1, 2016 that gave fans a preview of their 2016-2017 players. Open practice was full of activities, including practice drills by Nets players; a three-quarter scrimmage, a question & answer session, and a rookie dance-off.
The open practice was followed by an invitation only youth skills clinic. Four Old Bridge Hoops Academy players were fortunate to be on the invitation list of participants. These four players had an opportunity to meet players, get autographs, and see how the team is progressing. They also took part in the hour long clinic, which included drills, one-on-one with Nets players and a scrimmage.
At the end, the kids were treated to a Nets gift bag that included a wrist band, t-shirt and a voucher for two tickets to a future Nets game.

OB Hoops 1st Annual 3-on-3 Tournament: SLAM DUNK!!!

Teamwork and athletic spirit were alive and in full force at Geick Park on Saturday as the Old Bridge Hoops Academy played host to their 1st annual picnic and 3-on-3 Hoops Tournament.  Although the event began at noon, a number of participants lined up an hour before it began in anticipation. There were 20 teams participating in the one day, double elimination tournament, along with a host of enthusiastic parents, friends, supporters and volunteers that made the day a huge success. This intense, competitive 3-on-3 tournament was more than a slam dunk, it was a buzzer beater, a three-point play and a triple-double, all rolled into one!  In addition to the action on the court, we had great food, snacks, volleyball, face painting, raffles & smiles all around.  What an amazing day!
