Welcome to the home of BWBL (Backyard Wiffleball League)! We are a wiffleball league in Minnesota consisting of mostly teenagers and young adults, with a few tweens and dads as well. Our league was founded by the Commissioner, Dominic G, in 2021. The league was created as COVID restrictions were starting to be lifted in order to bring the neighborhood together after the pandemic. What started as 16 people on 4 teams, has now grown into an 8 team, 45+ player league, with over 100 people having played at least one game since 2021. We have an Instagram account (@backyardwiffle202_, the _ changes based on the current year) where we post pictures from the games as well as stats, fun facts, and more! We also have posted every game since 2022 on our YouTube channel, as well as select games from 2021, and other fun videos such as our Top/Not Top 10 Plays and Hype Videos. As of 2025, the Commissioner, Dominic, has edited all but a select few videos for YouTube, recorded all the stats, updated this website, and announced/umpired most games that he did not play in. He is currently a college student at the University of Minnesota, pursuing a math major and hoping to go into sports statistical analysis. When he is not studying, playing wiffleball, or editing games, he also umpires youth baseball and enjoys hanging out with his friends from college and his hometown.
The league first expanded from 4 teams in 2022, adding 2 teams, and splitting the six teams into AL and NL. The top team in each division recieved a first round bye in the playoffs, playing the winner of the other 2 teams. Then in 2023 the league expanded again, up to 8 teams. 4 teams were in each division, with the top team recieving a bye and the bottom team being eliminated from the playoffs. Every year the league has also had an All-Star Weekend, consisting of an All-Star Game, Home Run Derby, and sometimes other events such as a Parents vs Players game and an Anything but a Bat game. From 2021-2023 the league did not have a set schedule, and instead teams would let the Commissioner know if they were available on the day or the next day, and teams would play other teams that were available (each team played the same amount of games against each team still). In 2024, the league implemented a schedule in order to make it easier to players to plan ahead of time for games, although every year there are some reschedules due to unpredictable Minnesota weather or availability issues. Most games throughout our history have been played in the backyard of the Commissioner and his 3 siblings (who have all played in the league, alongside their dad as well), with a few games in 2025 being played at a local park due to weather.
