Chewin' Wit Chopper #1

Chewin' Wit Chopper

The Calvert Elite League has begun its third season, and so follows our series of in-depth interviews with players from the league. You may remember last year's interviews conducted with local writer Jacky Boland. Sadly, Jacky has left us for greener pastures, or should i say oilier fields. So, this year we've hired on new talent for our editorial department in Mr. Chopper Walsh. And so begins Chewin' Wit Chopper.

In the first installment of this seasons interview series CEL.com’s own Chopper sits down with Coors Light offensive defenceman Glen Sullivan.

Chopper: Hello Glen, thanks for meeting me up the lane.

So let’s get down to business, how’s your year going so far in the CEL?

Glen:
Well Chopper, to tell you the truth my first game back was something not expected by many but i knew i had it in me from the drop of the puck. After taking last season off to spend time on the patch, the concensus of the league is that i would be rusty. However, I showed all those doubters that when you have my talent all i need is a stick in my hands and skates on my feet to be a major factor in any league.

Chopper: Glen do you think it might have been luck in your first game or do you truly feel that you can keep this up all season.

Glen:
Well Chopper like i already mentioned i have the talent to keep this up and more. Having 2 ginos and 1 apple in your first game after a long layoff and sharing the top of the offensive category is no fluke.

Although i do have to give some credit to my younger brother who was a big part in my success on night one. If it had not been for him only agreeing to waive his no trade clause if i could be part of the deal i don't know if i would have got off to such a great start.

Chopper: Yes it's great that you and your brother can play together, but did you really wish to have all three of ye on the one team?

Glen:
Yeah that did cross my mind and it would be great for someday down the road for us to be able to play on not only the same team but the same line. But Jason has wanted to return to the green machine ever since being traded last year. Even though his team last year enjoyed more success he really wanted to get back to his roots.

Chopper: So tell me more about your big first night back in the CEL

Glen:
It was a pleasure to be back in this great league and to get the chance to play with the likes of bob the wallmart greeter and the sneaky dipper is a great accomplishment in my career. I think they will bring out the best in my game. As you know bobby couldn't make it the other night due to work commitments and yours truly took it upon himself to step up and take charge of this coors light squad. I'm convinced that this season will bring me fame not only within the league but outside as well. It will be nice to be recognized when i go downtown like my little brother experienced last year after a strong rookie campaign.

Chopper: Glen you have been a forward all your life, what caused you to go back and play the blueline?

Glen:
I thought that with my knowledge of the game i could be responsible back there where some guys lack and i can still take the puck and go whenever i get the urge because speed and scoring touch is something you don't lose after just one year.

Chopper: Well Glen, I'm out of beer and draws so this is gonna have to be the end of this session but i look forward to chewin' with you again in the future. Is there anything else you would like to add.

Glen:
Thanks for having me up here on the lane Chopper. Yes i would like to thank my Jenny for giving me the inspiration to work hard to become one of Calvert's great hockey players.
