CDBFL League Handbook

A. Rosters/Trades/Free Agents:

1. CDBFL commissioners: . All questions, concerns, trades, free agent signings must be reviewed by the committee.

2. Roster Maximum is 16 players. Roster Minimum is 8 players.

3. Team rosters must be set by July 1st. (The only variance of this rule may come if you have injuries and you do not have enough guys to fulfill your starting 7.)

4. Trades can be made up until week 5. After Week 5 ends, there are no more trades. There may also be no players cut and added to a new team past week 5. All trades must be approved by the CDBFL committee.

5. Once the Backyard Bowl Champions have been declared, teams can immediately look at and recruit available free agents.


B. On the field:

1. There will be a two referees at every game.

2. They are in charge of all of each call.

3. Excessive arguing will result in a 10-yard penalty.

4. For extreme circumstances, the referees also have the right to throw a player out of the game.

5. The referees are being paid to ref and we are there to play football.

6. If a player is frustrated and does not agree with the calls, he may speak to the refs during a break and report to one of the four members of the CDBFL committee.


C. Times/Subs/Standing:

1. Teams can sub players in and out at their discretion.

2. If a team only has 6 players, then it will be up to the opposing team whether to play 7-on-6 or 6-on-6.


D. In-game/out-game penalties:

1. If a team cannot play on a certain date and makes it known three days in advance of that game, it is up to that team to re-schedule the game before the last week of the season.

2. If a team pulls a “no call, no show”, it will be an automatic forfeit (0-100)

3. Each team will have a 15-minute grace period before each game to wait for their whole team to arrive. No matter what, the game will begin 15 minutes after the scheduled start time (if you arrive exactly 15 minutes after, the game will still start, there will not be time for warm ups.)

4. All players MUST sign the legal waivers. The referees will have a record of the team’s rosters and who has signed the waivers. If a player attempts to play with out signing a legal waiver, it will be a full team forfeit (0-100) regardless of the actually outcome.


E. Regular Season & Playoffs:

1. 10 game regular season

2. Games played on Saturdays (10:00am-2:00pm)

3. All teams must record their own statistics. All scores must also be reported to the committee after every game.

4. Top 3 teams from each division make playoffs. Top seed gets first round bye.


F. Field Dimensions:

1. Field Length--80 yards long

2. Field Width--40 yards wide

3. End Zone--10 yards deep


G. Game Rules & Regulations:

1. Games are 7-on-7.

2. Open hand blocking only.

3. There are no kickoffs.

4. The offensive center is not an eligible receiver.

5. Field is marked in 20 yard intervals with lines and cones.

6. Possession always begins at teams own 20 yard line.

7. Each offensive series is four downs.

8. The only way to gain a first down is by crossing Midfield.

9. All passes must be forward. A pass caught behind the line of scrimmage must be a forward pass.

10. The referee will count 5-Miss before you are able to rush the QB.

11. Each team will have 1 running play per series of four downs where any player can run the ball.

12. Each team will have 1 blitz per series of 4 downs.

13. Teams(any player) can only run if they are blitzed or if they are using their one per four downs.

14. Each team will have 25 seconds to snap the ball once it has been marked ready for play. Two delay of game penalties in the same possession results in a turnover. A delay of game penalty on the extra point try results in a turnover.

15. Defensive Pass Interference will be a spot foul(1st down at the spot). Offensive Pass Interference is a 10 yard penalty and loss of down.

16. Responsibility to avoid contact is with the defense after 5 yards.

17. A player is down when you are tackled or if your knee or elbow hits the ground. A player is also down if he calls himself down. (Excessive force by shoving, pushing, or striking a blow will be penalized by automatic first down and 10 yards. Expulsion of a player(s) if ruled unsportsmanlike & flagrant.

18. Fumbles are dead balls at the spot with the last team retaining possession. A muffed snap is not a fumble/dead ball.


H. Scoring:

1. There will be a coin toss before each game to determine who has ball and what side of the field teams will start on.

2. All games are played to 100.

3. Halftime is at 50. (Half time will be 15 minutes)

4. Games will be played by 7’s. A touchdown is worth 6 and the extra point is worth 1. The extra point is kicked at the 10 yard line.

5. 2-point conversions are only allowed if you are down. The 2-point conversions are ran from the 20 yard line. (No blitzes or running on 2-point conversions)

6. Field goals are worth 3 points It will be a free kick.

7. If the team who has the ball first surpasses 100 and the other team is down by 8 or less, they will have a chance to tie and send the game into OT.

8. If the team who does not have ball first surpasses 100 first, then the game is over.

9. Once a team passes 100, the score stops at 100. EX: 104-80 = 100-80 or 106-100 = 100 – 100 which means a tie and OT.


I. Overtime:

1. If both teams reach 100, then the game will go into overtime.

2. There will be another coin toss to see who gets the ball first in OT.

3. Each team will have 4 plays from their opponents 40-yardline to score.

4. There are no first downs, no running plays, and only 1 blitz.

5. The OT is played until there is a winner. EX: The team with the ball scores first and then the other team does not(college rules).


J. Mouth Pieces:

1. It is required that mouth pieces be worn!
