Cody Gets Ready to Host 2nd Annual Heart Mountain Classic on May 19-21

May 13, 2017 – 08:00 PM

Cody Pride Softball Association will host the 2nd annual Heart Mountain Classic Fastpitch softball tournament in Cody on May 19-21st. We have really had a lot of interest in the tournament this year. Last year we had 13 teams participating including two Cody Pride teams. This year, we will host twenty five (25) teams in the 10U, 12U, and 14U age divisions. The teams include:

10U Division:

  • Billings Bombers
  • Billings Force
  • Cody Pride
  • Montana Extreme
  • Rock Springs- Seibel
  • Rock Springs- Seltis

12U Division:

  • Billings Bombers-Hillier
  • Billings Bombers-Collier
  • Billings Force- Chartier
  • Billings Force- Nieto
  • Casper Cobras
  • Casper Voltage
  • Cody Pride
  • Gillette Bluejays-Gray
  • Gillette Bluejays-Kimberling
  • Riverton Rage
  • Rock Springs Storm

14U Division:

  • Billings Bombers
  • Billings Force
  • Casper Voltage
  • Cody Pride
  • Gillette Bluejays
  • Montana Extreme
  • Riverton Rebels
  • Worland Wildfires

Cody area hotels, restaurants, and merchants will benefit from the event as we expect more than 300 players, coaches, umpires, and family members to be in town for the event.

The games will begin Friday evening with the Cody Pride 12U team in action against the Billings Bombers at 5:45 PM. The Cody Pride 14U team will host the Montana Extreme at 7:00 PM. The 10U division games will be played down at the Cody Baseball Complex. All other games will be up at the Cody Softball Complex on East Sheridan.

The Heart Mountain Classic kicks off the summer tournament season for the Cody Pride Softball teams. Pride teams will then travel to compete in Gillette in the Battle for the High Plains tournament on May 27-28th before going to Billings for the Fastpitch Fury on June 2-4. Cody Pride will also travel to tournaments in Bozeman, Great Falls, Tooele (Utah), and Belgrade. The Pride teams will finish out their season on July 6-9 at the Wyoming State USA Softball Junior Olympic (JO) tournament which will be held in Rock Springs this year.

As you recall, last year’s 10U team won several regional tournaments and won the Wyoming State Tournament held in Gillette last July. They went on to finish 5th at the Northern National Tournament held in Rochester, Minnesota. Most of the starters off last year’s team have moved up in class to the 12U division and form the nucleus of the Cody Pride 12U team. Several new players filled in the voids left to form a new 10U Pride team. Cody’s 14U team is still young in their age division but have a year of experience in the 14U division after last year. All three (3) teams hope to gain tournament experience this weekend and in the upcoming tournaments with the hope of competing for State championships in Rock Springs in July.

Cody Pride Softball Association welcomes and encourages the public to come out and support our local girls athletes as they battle against some of the toughest teams in the region. There is no fee for admission. Concessions and t-shirts will be available for the event.

Thanks for helping us to get the word out!

Pride 10U Finishes 5th at Northern National Tournament

August 8, 2016 – 11:30 AM

Cody Pride 10U completed their season on Saturday in Rochester, Minnesota. After winning their first game in bracket play against the Avanti Yellow Jackets from Pekin, Illinois, Cody lost to Impact Fastpitch from New London, Wisconsin and the Silver Bullets from Lino Lake, Minnesota. With the win over Avanti, Pride finished 5th in the double elimination tournament.

The level of competition was outstanding according tot he Pride players, parents, and coaches. Although they were only able to muster one win in the tournament, the experience will serve this team well as they move up next year into the 12U division. The current Wyoming State champs will enjoy the rest of their summer and will come back next year with renewed confidence and motivation to continue their upward trajectory.

NORTHERN NATIONALS UPDATE--Cody Pride 10U Knocks Off #1 Seed to Advance to 2nd Round

August 5, 2016 – 02:45 PM

After going 0-2 yesterday in Pool Play, Cody Pride 10U showed up "ready to play" this morning in the first game of bracket play. Pride faced the #1 seeded Avanti Yellow Jackets from Pekin, Illinois and beat them 6-5 in 6 innings. Jayci Ervin was credited with the win from the mound while striking out ten (10) Yellow Jacket batters. The defense was nearly flawless with everyone making plays and contributing to the win. The game ended in the bottom of the 6th when Jayci Ervin hit an RBI single to score Hudson Selk to secure the win.

Out of 196 ASA 10B Teams listed on the Illinois ASA web site, the Yellow Jackets are ranked 4th in cumulative ASA points. Points are earned by participating and winning ASA sanctioned tournaments throughout the country. There is no question that the team from Pekin is one of the best teams in the region.

Later in the afternoon, Cody Pride got behind early to the Impact Fastpitch team from New London, Wisconsin and could not recover. The Impact was hot from the plate scoring 7 runs in the first inning. Impact cruised to a 13-3 victory and will move on to Round 3 in the winner's bracket. Pride will play again tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM in the double elimination format and will play the Silver Bullets from Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Only six (6) teams remain in the tournament heading into tomorrow's action.

IMPORTANT--Changes in Schedule for Tournament

May 21, 2016 – 07:20 AM

With the heavy rain and hail that hit our fields yesterday evening, there will be no 12U or 14/16U games this morning to give the fields a chance to dry out. We will resume with the regular schedule starting at noon with the games and times as scheduled. We may try to squeeze the games that were scheduled this morning to later this evening. Stay tuned on this.

10U games between Worland and Cody will be at the baseball fields at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM (original scheduled times). The field we will be using is the one furthest to the west and closest to the County jail.

Thanks Pride Nation for all the volunteer hours! We will not be denied!!!

PRIDE TEAMS TOP WORLAND IN DOUBLE HEADER ACTION IN CODY

May 15, 2016

After playing double header games in Laurel the previous week, the Cody Pride 10U and 14U teams returned home on Sunday to face the Worland Wildfires in double header action.

CODY PRIDE 10U:In the 10U games, Cody defeated Worland 17 to 0 in the first game and topped the young Wildfires 16 to 5 in the 2nd game. In the first game, the veteran Pride team jumped to an early lead behind strong pitching from Jayci Ervin (a 3rd year 10U Pride starter). Ervin surrendered only a few hits and gave up no runs in the matchup. Multiple Pride batters were able to log hits against the younger Worland team as the Cody girls cruised to an early season victory.

In the 2nd game, the Pride 10U handed Worland their 2nd loss of the day in a 16-5 contest. Cody sent multiple pitchers to the mound in the game to try to secure additional pitching experience and depth behind their veteran pitcher in Ervin. Riley Simone, Ellie Ungrund, Jayma Tuttle, and Morgan Evans all saw action from the pitcher's circle on Sunday. Development of depth at the pitching position is critical for success as Pride starts the grueling tournament season over the next few weeks.

The strong defensive and pitching effort by Pride on Sunday was equaled by an impressive hitting game. Most of the 10U players logged hits. Laura Lynn Phillips led the way for Pride with a home run blast deep into the outfield.

The Pride 10U girls will be back in action this coming weekend as they battle other regional teams at the Heart Mountain Classic in Cody.  Cody Pride 10U brings a 3-1 record into the tournament. Cody is a seasoned 10U team with 11 of the 13 players on the roster at age 10. Riley Simone, Hudson Selk, Jayma Tuttle, and Jayci Ervin all played on the 2014 Cody Pride 10U team that won the Wyoming State ASA JO title in the 10U recreational division.

CODY PRIDE 14U:

Cody Pride 14U girls were also in action on Sunday afternoon at the Cody Softball Complex. Cody faced the Worland Wildfires 14U girls in a double header matchup. Cody defeated the girls from Worland 10-4 in the first game followed by a 9 to 2 victory later in the afternoon. Fast ball specialist Allyson Schroeder (aka, Shredder) got the team going early with a blistering performance from the circle while giving up 0 hits and 0 runs in 3 innings of work. Relief pitcher Kaitlyn Shearer came on and sealed the victory for Pride while giving up just 2 runs. Schroeder and Shearer combined for 11 strikeouts in the game.

The hitting game was solid all afternoon for the 14U Pride girls with most of the girls on the roster logging hits. In the first game, Schroeder, Kinley Bollinger, Ava Meier, Leiawna Varian, Ashley Dunkerley, and sister Sarah Dunkerley all hit the ball well. In the 2nd game, the younger Dunkerley, Ava Meier, Emily Egger, Kinley Bollinger, A'din Ringel, and Kaitlyn Shearer all recorded hits.

The Pride 14U team will start tournament action this weekend at home tournament hosted by Cody Pride Softball Association. The Heart Mountain Classic will include teams from Gillette, Worland, Casper, Riverton, Rock Springs, and Billings. The Pride 14U girls will enter the tournament with a 3-1 record.

Different than the Pride 10U team, the 14U Pride girls are young for their division with 9 girls on the roster that are 12 or under.

January 30 2016 from 2pm-7pm

Cody Stampede Baseball and Cody Pride Softball are teaming up and having a Bowl-A-Thon in hopes of raising money for their traveling teams. The idea the traveling teams have come up with is that you pledge a certain amount per pin they knock down….. $.05, $.10, $.25, $.50, $1, etc. You set the price. The boys and girls will bowl three games and then add up their three final scores at the end.  The boys and girls will be put onto teams of 4 or 5.  The boy who raises the most money will receive a 2016 Easton Mako baseball bat and new equipment bag. The girl who raises the most money will receive a Cody Pride sweat shirt and a new equipment bag.

Example: Scores of 72 + 75 + 78 = 225 pins

If you pledge to pay $.10/pin you would owe 225 x $.10 = $22.50

Cody Pride 12U Team Takes 4th at Wyoming State ASA Tournament in B Division

July 14, 2015 – 09:50 PM

It is a

The Cody Pride 12U girls completed a busy and competitive fast pitch softball season by competing in the American Softball Association (ASA) Wyoming State Tournament in Casper this past weekend. The team, consisting mainly of 11 and 12 year olds from Cody and surrounding areas finished fourth in the 12U “B” Division behind perennial powerhouses Cheyenne, Gillette, and Torrington.

The Cody 12U girls carried some confidence and momentum going into the annual tournament by winning four (4) of their last seven (7) regular season games. The Cody 12U team that took the field in Casper included five (5) players off of last year’s State championship team in the 10U recreational division. Allison Edwards (#7), Kinley Bollinger (#23), Emily Egger (#9), Kamden Harris (#2), and A’din Ringel (#8) moved up to the 12U squad this year. The remaining six (6) players from last year’s championship team including Jayci Ervin (#10), Riley Simone (#17), Hudson Selk (#11) Jayma Tuttle (#21), Katie Brasher (#00), and Ecylia Wright (#4) returned to defend their title in the 10U division.

Pool Play on Friday 07/10/15

Douglas Hotshots 11 vs. Cody Pride 10 (by ASA Tie-breaker Rules)

The Cody Pride 12U girls opened pool play on Friday morning against a familiar Douglas team. In two prior meetings at tournaments in Douglas and Gillette, the two teams split with each winning a game. The 3rd meeting in Casper was also a close battle that ended up tied at 10 by the end of the allotted tournament game time limit. The two teams then entered into ASA sanctioned tie-breaking procedures where Cody came up just short losing to Douglas with a final score of 11 to 10.

Cody Pride 12U bested the Douglas girls at the plate recording 8 hits to only 4 for Douglas. Six (6) Pride players recorded hits including Edwards, Egger, Harris, Nyah Meier (#5), Bollinger, and Ashley Dunkerley (#25). Dunkerley was 2 for 3 while Edwards was 2 for 2 helping to fuel the Pride offense early. Egger led the Pride from the mound to start the game while pitching well into the 2nd inning. Egger faced 16 batters while only giving up 2 hits. Egger walked 7 batters and struck out 1 while giving up 9 runs. Egger threw 72 pitches of which 26 were strikes (36.1%). Ringel came on in relief late in the 2nd inning and generally held the Douglas offense in check. Ringel faced 9 batters in a little more than 2 innings while giving up 2 hits and only 2 runs. Ringel threw 19 strikes out of 28 pitches (67.9%) while striking out 2 batters.

Pool Play on Friday 07/10/15

Gillette Blue Jays 16 vs. Cody Pride 1

In their 2nd game of pool play on Friday, Cody drew the eventual tournament 2nd place finisher Gillette Blue Jays. Gillette jumped out to an early 7 to 1 lead over Cody and never looked back while cruising to a 16 to 1 victory. Gillette belted 7 hits to just 1 hit for Cody (a single by #15 Summer Holeman). Cody was never able to get the bats going against Gillette which played stingy defense behind solid pitching.  The Pride also struggled from the mound behind Allyson Schroeder (#3). Schroeder had trouble finding the mark against an experienced Gillette offense. Schroeder faced 24 batters while giving up 16 runs and 7 hits. She struck out 3 batters and walked 11. Out of 100 pitches thrown, Schroeder threw 43 strikes (43%). Gillette ultimately fell to Cheyenne in the championship game on Sunday.

Bracket Play on Saturday 07/11/15

Torrington Twisters 12 vs. Cody Pride 8

In their first game of bracket play in the double elimination tournament, the Cody Pride 12U girls faced another familiar opponent in the Twisters from Torrington. Pride jumped out to an early 4 to 3 lead at the end of the 1st inning but could not hold on as Torrington pulled away with a 12 to 8 victory.

Pride matched the Torrington offense while racking up 6 hits which equaled Torrington’s. Meier went a perfect 2 for 2 from the dish singling in the first and fourth innings. Dunkerley was also 2 for 2 and Egger was 1 for 2 for Cody. Costly errors proved to be the difference with Cody giving up 4 errors while Torrington had none.

Schroeder led the Pride defense and was credited with the loss. Schroeder faced 25 batters in just over 3 innings and gave up 6 hits, 7 walks, and 12 runs while striking out 2 batters. She threw 98 pitches of which 49 were strikes (50%).

Wyoming State ASA Tournament--12U Girls B Division

Bracket Play on Saturday 07/11/15

Cody Pride 12 vs. Laramie 7

On Saturday evening, Cody Pride 12U faced a competitive team of all-stars from Laramie. Cody played arguably their best and most complete game of the season while besting the girls from Laramie 12 to 7. The game saw six (6) lead changes and was a competitive pitching duel for the first three innings. After the first inning both teams were scoreless. After trading punches in the 2nd and 3rd innings the game was tied 3 to 3. Cody’s offense exploded in the bottom of the 4th when they plated 9 runs. They were able to hold on for the win after 5 innings behind excellent pitching by Schroeder and a stingy defense.

Schroeder was phenomenal from the mound and frustrated the Laramie batters only giving up 4 hits. Out of 15 outs secured by the Pride, 11 of them were due to strike outs behind Schroeder’s hot hand. Schroeder pitched the entire game and faced 24 batters. She threw 109 pitches of which 64 were strikes (58.7%). Schroeder (nicknamed by her team-mates and coaches as “Shredder”) walked just 3 batters on the night. “We are so proud of the game that Shredder pitched against Laramie” said Assistant Coach and Cody Pride Association President Brian Edwards. “Schroeder has improved her accuracy, technique, and consistency late in the season. Although we have seen Schroeder pitch well in other games, this was by far her best performance. She was accurate and in command of the game from start to finish. She left several people including many in her own dug out with dropped lower jaw after she single handedly retired 11 batters”, said Edwards.

Equally impressive was the overall team effort on both offense and defense. “Clearly the girls wanted the win and wanted to be sure they could stay one more night in Casper to continue on with bracket play on Sunday”, said 1st Base Coach and Assistant Coach Cody Edwards. Pride belted 10 hits to only 4 by Laramie. Eight (8) of Eleven (11) Pride players that stepped to the plate registered hits on Saturday night. Harris was 2 for 3. Dunkerley was also 2 for 3 including a triple late in the 4th inning. The barrage of hits was ignited by a home run down the first base line by Edwards and a three (3) RBI single by Schroeder.

“The Pride defense was relentless in all areas” according to Assistant Coach Edwards. This was a very physical game which saw multiple collisions and diving plays. Pride catcher Bollinger collided with the Laramie first baseman late in the 4th inning resulting in a tournament ending knee injury. Harris and Ringel picked off multiple fly balls frustrating the Laramie batters. Relief catcher Egger made a diving play at home plate to catch a tipped ball in the final inning. Egger then proceeded to fire a ball from home plate to 3rd baseman Edwards who made the tag at third to win the game and stifle any Laramie hopes of catching Cody.

Wyoming State ASA Tournament--12U Girls B Division

Bracket Play on Sunday 07/12/15

Torrington Twisters 16 vs. Cody Pride 5

After an emotional victory over Laramie on Saturday evening, Cody moved up in the bracket and again faced their cross state rival Torrington Twisters again on Sunday morning. This time it was evident that the young Cody team left it all on the field the previous night against Laramie. Torrington jumped out on Cody early and coasted to a 16-5 victory while claiming 3rd place in the B Division of the tournament.

Four (4) Torrington players combined for 11 hits and seven RBIs to fuel the Torrington offense. Torrington finished with 14 hits compared to just 2 for Cody as the Torrington batters frustrated Pride pitchers Schroeder and Ringel. Harris was the only bright spot on offense for Pride. Harris was a perfect 2 for 2 from the plate and had 1 RBI. Harris was the only Pride batter to manage a hit against the stingy Torrington defense.

Schroeder started out the game for Pride from the mound with the hopes that her hot hand from the previous evening would continue. Although she pitched well, she still managed to give up 9 hits and 11 runs in a little over 2 innings of work. Schroeder only walked 2 and struck out 3 batters. She faced 19 batters and threw 68 pitches of which 34 were strikes (50%). Seeing that the Torrington batters were finding their mark against Schroeder, Head Coach Egger brought in relief pitcher Ringel late in the 3rd inning to see if a change in speed would make a difference. Ringel pitched well giving up 5 hits and 5 runs to the experienced Torrington team but was unable to slow down the Torrington offense. Ringel walked 4 batters and struck out 2. She faced 12 batters and threw 47 pitches of which 23 were strikes (48.9%).

Cody Pride 12U Wraps Up 2015 Season at Wyoming State ASA Tournament in Casper

July 5, 2015 – 10:00 PM

The Cody Pride 12U girls will complete a busy and competitive fast pitch softball season by competing in the American Softball Association (ASA) Wyoming State Tournament in Casper this weekend. Opening ceremonies for the State ASA event are scheduled for Thursday evening (July 9, 2015) at 7:00 PM at the Natrona County High School Football Field in Casper. Pool play to determine seeding will begin on Friday with bracket competition extending through Sunday afternoon.

Winners of four (4) of their last seven (7) games, the group of 11 and 12 year olds appear to be peaking at the right time as they carry momentum into the State tournament. Cody Pride returns all eleven (11) players off of last year’s State championship team in the 10U recreational division. Allison Edwards (#7), Kinley Bollinger (#23), Emily Egger (#9), Kamden Harris (#2), and A’din Ringel (#8) have moved up to the 12U squad while Jayci Ervin (#10), Riley Simone (#17), Hudson Selk (#11) Jayma Tuttle (#21), Katie Brasher (#00), and Ecylia Wright (#4) will return to defend their title in the 10U division.

The Pride 12U girls have played in competitive weekend tournaments throughout Montana and Wyoming since May in preparation for the State tournament. In early tournaments in Laurel (Riding the Rails – 05/30/2015 – 05/31/2015), Billings (Fastpitch Frenzy – 06/05/15 – 06/07/15), and Bozeman (Bozeman Blast- 06/12/15) the Pride girls faced some of the best fast pitch softball teams in the region. Although the girls did not come away with many wins in Montana, the experience gained is already starting to show with a young team mainly consisting of 11 year olds.

Early in the season, adversity plagued the Cody Pride girls with multiple games and practices cancelled due to wet weather. Injuries and illness also depleted the 12U roster on several occasions. In Bozeman, only six (6) of the regular 12 player roster were available to suit up and play. Coach Shawn Egger was able to complete the remaining games by borrowing some players from the 10U squad which also was competing in the tournament. Ava MeirsJayci Ervin, Hudson Selk, Riley Simone, and Laura Lynn Phillips all stepped up and played well with their older Pride members.

Cody Pride 21 vs. Douglas Dominators 1

June 21st @ Douglas Invitational

The first game of bracket play on Sunday the 21st placed the Cody Pride 12U girls against a familiar opponent in the Douglas Dominators. After losing a close battle to Douglas the previous day in pool play, Cody Pride exploded on Sunday morning and dominated the Dominators 21 to 1. Pride scored 21 runs in the first three innings behind solid hitting and base running. A two-run single by A’din Rngel, an RBI doubl by Harris, another single by Ringel, an RBI double by Egger, and an RBI single by Bolinger helped Cody put runs on the board early. Harris racked up five RBIs on three (3) hits for Cody. Bollinger was 2 for 2 from the plate and Ringel was 2 for 4. Leiawna Varian (#10) also recorded a single to help fuel the attack. The Pride batters shredded the Dominators pitching as six hitters combined for eight hits, nine RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Cody Pride 12U racked up six (6) hits, but it wasn’t enough as Cody fell to the Casper Sliders for the 2nd time in two days on June 21st at the Douglas Invitational. Pride drew first blood in the 1st inning with an RBI double by Schroeder which scored Egger. The game remained close into the 3rd inning which included an RBI single by Ringel which scored Dunkerley. Casper exploded in the fourth inning scoring nine (9) runs capitalizing on inconsistent pitching, passed balls, and aggressive base running. June 27th @ Razor City Invitational in Gillette, Wyoming

Pitchers had a tough day during the game between the Cody Pride 12U girls and the Rapid City Wicked on Saturday June 27th in Gillette, Wyoming at the Razor City Invitational Tournament. The two teams combined for 12 hits and put up 19 runs in the game. Cody Pride held on to seal their first victory of the tournament 11 to 8.

Cody Pride came out swinging, scoring six (6) runs in the first inning to jump ahead of Rapid City early. Pride scored first with RBI singles from RIngel, Schroeder, Harris, and Edwards. Schroeder and Holeman were both a perfect 2 for 2 from the dish.  Egger was 2 for 3 and Abby Schuster (#20) was 1 for 1 for Pride which saw 7 different batters log hits in the game.

Cody Pride 9 vs. Scottsbluff Broadway Bombers 5

June 27th @ Razor City Invitational in Gillette, Wyoming

Cody Pride outlasted a gritty team from Scottsbluff in their final game of pool play on Saturday June 27th while holding on for a 9 to 5 victory. Scottsbluff Broadway Bombers belted seven hits compared to just one for Cody Pride. However, the Bombers stranded six on base which proved to be the difference.

The game was knotted up at 0 to 0 after the first inning. However, Pride was able to get something going in the 2nd plating six (6) runs mainly due to some errant and inconsistent pitching on behalf of Scottsbluff. Summer Holeman got the only hit for Pride when she recorded an RBI single in the 2nd inning. Holeman managed to get on base two (2) times and scored 2 runs. Harris, Schroeder, Meier, Edwards, Ringel, Varian, and Dunkerley were also able to plate runs for Cody with aggressive base running after a series of wild pitches and walks by the Bombers.

Ringel was credited with the victory for Pride behind another solid pitching effort by the 11 year old. Ringel faced 19 batters and gave up five (5) runs on seven (7) hits. She struck out four (4) batters and walked four (4). Ringel threw 64 pitches of which 35 were strikes (54.7%). Schroeder took the mound in the 4th inning to preserve the victory. Schroeder threw 18 pitches of which 9 were strikes (50%). Schroeder only faced four batters but struck out 2 of them while walking one.

Torrington Twisters 14 vs. Cody Pride 2

June 28th @ Razor City Invitational in Gillette, Wyoming

Cody Pride was moved into the Gold bracket of the 14 team field after a solid 2-1 record in pool play on Saturday the 27th which included big wins over Rapid City and Scotts Bluff. Unfortunately, Pride drew a talented and experienced team from Torrington to start bracket play on the 28th. Torrington blanked Cody in the first two innings and jumped out to an eight (8) to nothing lead after two innings before coasting to a 14 to 2 victory.

The Torrington batters shredded the Pride pitchers with hot bats while logging 12 hits to only 3 by the Pride. Egger was one of a few bright spots for the Pride while going 2 for 2 from the plate. Varian recorded the other hit for Pride. Torrington used just nine (9) players but 7 of them recorded hits against Cody.

Schroeder was credited with the loss for Pride. She faced 24 batters while giving up 12 hits and walking four batters. Schroeder threw 31 strikes out of 65 pitches (47.6%) but was unable to record any strikeouts.

According to Assistant Coach and Cody Pride Softball Association President Brian Edwards, “the Torrington Twisters have a very solid softball program”. “At last years Wyoming State ASA tournament in Riverton, the Twisters won the Championship in the B League in the 10U, 12U, and 18U divisions. Undoubtedly, the Twisters will be one of the teams standing in the way for Pride as they head towards this year’s State tournament in Casper.

Cody Pride 10U Team Looks Ahead to Wyoming State ASA Tournament in Casper

Pride 10U Catcher Hudson Selk Waits for Pitch

Cody Pride 10U Girls completed their last regular season tournament of the year at the Razor City Invite in Gillette this past weekend. The girls fast pitch softball team will now prepare for the Wyoming State American Softball Association (ASA) Junior Olympic (JO) tournament which will be held in Caper on July 10-12, 2015.

The Gillette tournament was the third regular season tournament for the young travelling team of 8, 9, and 10 year olds after competing in the Riding the Rails tournament in Laurel on May 30-31st and the Bozeman Blast tournament in Bozeman on June 12-14th. The tournament games for the 10U division in Gillette were played at the newly completed Energy Capital Softball Complex (aka Field of Dreams) which is an impressive 320 acre facility featuring multiple baseball and softball fields. Teams from Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, and Nebraska gathered for the grand opening of the facility which coincided with the annual Razor City Invite event.

Cody Pride 10U opened pool play on Saturday at 9:30 AM against the Rapid City Storm. The game was close throughout with the Storm pulling away late 18 to 13 to seal the victory. The 2nd game of the day on Saturday for Pride 10U was at 11:00 AM against the Blue Jays from Gillette. Costly mistakes proved to be the difference as Pride fell to Gillette 12 to 2. The stifling heat also proved to be challenging with temperatures reaching the mid to upper 90s by mid-day. In the third and final game of the day, Pride 10U lost to the Billings Bombers 12 to 4. Although Pride 10U was not able to record any wins on Saturday, they faced some very stiff competition which will serve them well as they look towards the Wyoming State tournament just two short weeks away.

On Sunday, in bracket play, Pride 10U came up just short and ran out of time as they battled back and lost a close game to the Crushers from Rapid City 9 to 6. Riley Simone led Pride from the mound against the Crushers striking out several Rapid City batters.

Pride 10U is hoping to follow up on last year’s State tournament success after coming from behind and surprising everyone to win the 10U Recreation Division. In last year’s tournament, the girls had to battle back from the losers bracket while defeating Green River twice and Douglas twice to claim the title.

Cody Pride 10U players include Katie Brasher, Jayci Ervin, Morgan Evans, Abby Klessens, Ava Meier, Tristan Molaskey, Laura Phillips, Hudson Selk, Riley Simone, Jayma Tuttle, Ellie Ungrund, and Ecylia Wright. The team is managed by head coach Ron Brasher and assistant coaches Keith Ungrund, James Evans, Ed Molaskey, Brianne Brasher, and Armond Simone.

Pride Players Help Cody Optimist Club Pick Up Trash Along Highway 120

Pride Players Ashley, Jayci, and Allie shed their Pride uniforms, rolled up their sleeves and hit the highway with the Cody Optimist Club last night. The girls picked up several bags of trash along Highway 120 just south of Cody. The girls only spotted 4 snakes during the process. Although Ashley had a close call... no one managed to pick up a snake by the tail.

The Cody Optimist Club was very appreciative of all the help from Cody Pride. Special thanks to the Dunkerleys, Edwards, and Ervin for representing Pride Softball!
