Competetive Softball Overview

Competetive "B" Softball is a more competitive activity than recreational ("C") softball. Many teams hold tryouts / evaluations and the most capable players are selected to play. The season may run longer with more games. Practices may be more frequent and more focused than recreational team practices. Games are played with regular ASA rules - no coach pitching in games, the full range of stealing and hitting rules are in effect. Games begin in Late March / Early April and continue on into the summer. Most league games will be played during the week.

Team Goals & Philosophy:

We have a few primary team goals. First and foremost is to keep the kids safe. If we have one preventable injury occur that is one too many. Our second major goal is to make sure the girls are having fun – most kids quit participating in sports because it stops being fun - we don’t want that to happen! Another goal is to help the girls develop skills that will allow them to be successful should they continue to play softball up through high school and beyond. We want to have a successful, winning season, but we all need to remember that even though this is a competitive league – Safety, fun and player development are our primary goals.

We will make every attempt to divide playing time appropriately, given a players ability (remember the development bit!). Players will be given the opportunity to gain additional playing time by being on time*, paying attention and focusing on the tasks presented by the coaches at practices & games. Players also have the opportunity to lose playing time by being late* to practices and games, failing to listen to coaches or having a poor attitude.

We try to win all the games we play. Generally, we play the athletes that give us the best opportunity to win if we are ahead / behind by less than a few runs at the start of the 4th inning. If we are winning easily or losing badly, we will follow an equal time approach or use the opportunity to give extra playing time to those who have earned it.

* We know the kids can’t drive, so please help them be successful by being on time.
