Dominican Baseball in Fitchburg

We witnessed some great baseball at Parkhill today as a group of kids from the Dominican Republic were in town to play some baseball. Jameson Carroll, Michael Bellar, Anthony Cuevas and Anthony Silverio of Fitchburg were honorary members of the Dominican team and all contributed in the game. Anthony Cuevas pitched a scoreless inning and had a base hit. Jameson Carroll reached base 2 times, Michael Bellar had a RBI single and Anthony Silverio reached base and scored a run.

The kids that played today from the Dominican were ages 13-15. next year, a group of younger kids will be traveling to Fitchburg and hopefully will get chance to play at Ansin Park vs. players from the Fitchburg Cal Ripken League.

This was a great experience for the kids that traveled from the Dominican Republic to the United States and also was a great experience for the kids from Fitchburg that played in the game.

Go to the Cal Ripken Fitchburg Facebook page for some photos from the game.

Fitchburg Advances to Championship Game

WOW! What an amazing game at Ansin Park today between Fitchburg and Westminster in the 10U Tournament. Westminster scored first and took a 1-0 lead after 1 inning. Fitchburg came right back to take a 3-1 lead with 2 runs in the 2nd and another in the 3rd. The scored remained 3-1 until the bottom of the 5th when Westminster scored 2 to tie the game at 3. Both teams went out 1-2-3 in the 6th inning so we went to extra innings. Both teams went scoreless in the 7th. In the top of the 8th, Fitchburg took the lead 4-3 as Edwin Santana scored on a wild pitch and then Brayden Gendron stole home to make it 5-3. In the bottom of the 8th, Westminster got a walk and then hit 3 straight singles to tie the game at 5-5. With the winning run on 3rd base and 1 out, manager Jason Carroll called in Nick Ouellette to pitch and he struck out the next 2 batters to get out of the jam and extend the game to the 9th inning. In the top of the 9th, Zach Scott doubled with 1 out. After a pop out to shortstop, Edwin Santana came up with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs and laced a hard line drive up the middle to score Scott and give Fitchburg a 6-5 lead. The game remained 6-5 as we headed to the bottom of the 9th. Ouellette got the first batter on a ground out to Scott at 2nd base. The next batter reached on a base hit and then retired the next 2 batters to end the game and send Fitchburg to the Championship Game on Tuesday. With the win, Fitchburg clinched a berth in the 10U State Tournament which will begin July 5th in Northbridge, MA.

There were many great defensive plays made by Fitchburg and Nick Ouellette led the way with 7 assists at shortstop including a few "web gems". Brayden Gendron was amazing at catcher. It was such a hot day and we told Brayden before the game started that we will only need him to catch about 4 innings and then we would give him a rest. Well, he saved so many runs for his with all his great stops that we left him to catch and he played great all 9 innings. Collin Dudek made a couple nice catches in left field, Edwin Santana made a nice catch in center field and Robaer Lafleur made a great play in right field as he threw out a runner at first base on a potential base hit to RF.

Zach Scott was the starting pitcher and gave us 5 solid innings in one of the hottest days of the year. Jaxon Carroll came in next and pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th inning. Nick Ouellette came in to finish the game and was the winning pitcher, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

At the plate, Edwin Santana again led the way with 3 singles, a walk and 2 runs scored. Zach Scott had a single, double and scored 2 runs. Brayden Gendron had 2 singles and walk and a run scored and Connor Mignault reached base 3 times by a walk.

In the 4 PM game it was Pepperell over Narragansett 19-9 in 4 innings so Pepperell will play Westminster on Monday night at Ansin Park at 5:30 PM. The winner of Monday's game will play Fitchburg in the Championship game on Tuesday at 5:30. If Fitchburg wins on Tuesday they will be the District 5 Champions. If Fitchburg does not win on Tuesday, they will play again on Wednesday and the winner of that game will be the Champs.

Fitchburg Wins 2nd Tourney Game

Fitchburg improved to 2-0 in the 10U All-Star Tournament with a 12-2 victory over Pepperell on Saturday. Just like in game 1, there were many stars for Fitchburg. Nick Ouellette was the starting and winning pitcher. Nick went 4 innings, allowed just 2 runs and 2 hits while striking out 7. Jaxon Carroll pitched the final inning without allowing a run and striking out a batter.

In the 4PM game at Ansin Park it was Narragansett over Townsend-Ashby 15-7. Max Jacques for Narragansett had a game he will remember for a long time. Max had a single, hit one off the fence for a double, then hit one over the fence for a Home Run. His final stat line was a homer, double, single, walk, 7 RBI, 4 runs scored plus he pitched an inning and struck out the side. Oh by the way, he also got 2 runners out at home that tried to advance on a wild pitch.
