3. You must have passed at least four full-credit subjects or the equivalent during the previous grading period, except that eligibility for the first grading period is based on your final grades for the preceding school year. If you fail to meet this requirement, you will lose your eligibility for 15 school days of the next grading period, beginning on the first day report cards are issued.
Age
You may not have reached your 16th birthday before the end of 8th grade.
Attendance
1. You must be regularly enrolled in your school and in full-time attendance there.
2. You are eligible only at the school at which you are enrolled.
3. If you are absent from school during a semester for a total of 20 or more school days, you will lose your eligibility until you have been in attendance for a total of 45 school days following your 20th day of absence. Summer school attendance will not count toward your 45 school days.
Consent of Parent or Guardian
You are eligible only if there is on file with the principal of your school, before you begin practice, an official School District of Philadelphia certificate signed by your parent or guardian consenting to your participation in the particular sport involved.
Pre-participation Physical Evaluation
(the following information was revised in April 2006 from the original document)
You must have a Pre-Participation physical completed before the compete in an interscholastic sport.
As of April 1, 2006, participation physicals are calendar year rather than school year for middle grades only. Previously, student athletes were required to receive a physical from their physician for each school year dated after June 1st of the previous school year. Now, physicals can be done once per calendar year. For example, if a student gets a physical in December of 2005 during the 2005-2006 school year, they are eligible to participate in winter and spring sports for that school year AND fall sports for the 2006-2007 school year.
Physicals must be completed BEFORE students should participate.
