Good Luck GOOBERS As We Hope To Be Repeat Champs In 07
Rain Delay Halts Goober Home Opener

Looks like we will have to wait for next tuesday to officially start off this season.
We will be playing against the DBI Bulldogs, no idea who they are but we should come out on top with the team we have. Good Luck Goobers!
Goobers Continue There Win One Lose One Type Of Play In 2007

After being ahead 11-1 at one point in the first game, (9 of those 11 runs coming in the 3rd inning) the Goobers slowed right down. Only putting up 1 more run in the last 3 innings, then carrying that over to the 2nd game in which they didnt score until the 5th when they had 2 runs cross. The Goobers scored only 3 runs in 9 innings since there huge 9 run inning in the 3rd inning of the 1st game. Game 1 ended 11-8 for the Goobers, but in game 2 the bats went silent, after going 4 scoreless innings and being down 11-0 the Goobers finally put up 2 runs to stave off mercy. But then another quick inning allowed the Bulldogs to score a run and end the game. MVP for the game i would have to say would be Joey Pileggi, a callup none the less, but he played a great game both offensively and defensively.
The Goobers next matchup is against the Houndogs Tuesday 29th, 6:30pm at Dunton 1.
Goobers Have Terrible Outing Against 0-3 Houndogs

Goobers Bring Out The Brooms As They Sweep The Twins

Sultans Bump, Set, And Spike Their Way Past The Goobers

Game 2 started just as game 1, 3 up 3 down for the Goobers who didnt even manage a run until the 4th where they put up 4 runs and that was all for the rest of the game. Losing game 2, 9-4 was not what the Goobers were looking for. Now sitting in the 5th spot, the Goobers still have alot of season left to get back on track and start hitting like they did last year.
the MVP for game 1 goes to Brian Robbie (He was moved from the 9 spot to the 2 spot and promised a good game. After a shaky first at bat he got focused and hit on his next 2 at bats, putting up 2 RBI's in the game).
MVP for game 2 goes to Tony Fimograni (Only had 1 at bat, but it was a clutch at bat as he started the rally in the 4th inning as the Goobers went on to put up 4 runs).
The Goobers go up against the 2nd place Underachievers next tuesday, this should be another tough matchup as they Goobers look to bring themselves back up to .500
Goobers Get Struck Down By Techaire Thunder But Manage To Survive And Take The Split

Big Bad Bulldogs Fall Asleep As Goobers Pick Up A Much Needed Sweep

Game 2 is usually the Goobers downfall but the silence all critics by putting up 4 in the 1st and then another 3 in the 2nd to take a nice 7-3 early lead. But the Bulldogs would chip away and inch it to a 7-5 game. But the Goobers great defence stole the show as they shut them out the rest of the game and finish with a nice 9-5 victory. Highlights of this game included Matt Sturino playing outfield and terribly misplaying 2 easy flyballs. And a Rob Ryan groundout that had him so worked up he tried to hop the fence but landed straight on his arm which caused a burst of laughter from everyone on the field. Game 2 MVP goes to Bobby Chapman as he went 3for3 with a Single, Double, Triple, 1 Run, and 2 RBI's. Other mentionables include Matt Sturino who was 3for3 with a single and 2 doubles with 2 RBI's, Kevin Robbie who was 2for3 with 2 singles and 2 RBI's.
Top hitters on the day were Bobby Chapman (6for7 with 6 RBI's), Kevin Robbie (5for7 with 4 RBI's), Bryan Ploen and Matt Sturino were both 4for6 with 3 RBI's each.
The Goobers go up against the tough Houndogs next week who easily beat us earlier on in the season 15-5, and 20-5. The Goobers need another sweep to get them into that #4 spot in the standings, let hope they can do it. GO GOOBERS!!

The Rain Doesnt Stop The Goobers As They Pick Up There 5th Sweep in 6 Weeks

Last nights game was a sloppy one. The rain came and it wasnt much fun. Very tough conditions to play in, the Goobers really needed a sweep. The first game went great, the Goobers got out to an early 4-0 lead, then went up 5-1 after the 3rd. But it was all about the explosive 9 run 5th inning that pretty much ended the game. The final being 14-1 for the Goobers. Joey Pileggi had a good game going 2for3 with a single and an inside the park homerun. He finished the game with 2 RBI's and 3 Runs. Brian Fraser continued his hot streak going 2for3 as well. Brian Robbie made a great play at first to end the game as he almost threw out his back lunging to grab a line drive down the line.
But now game 2, you would think...lets not change a good thing while its working right? wrong! The Goobers moved to 5 man for game 2. And put in Brian Robbie on the hill. The Twins put up 5 runs in the top of the 1st while the rain poured down. Control issues for Brian Robbie was noticable as he walked 3 batters that inning and got slapped around by some key hits. The Goobers looked shaken, as they failed to answer in the bottom of the inning. Bobby Chapman took back to hill in the 2nd inning in hopes of sparking his club. And it seemed to have worked. As he shut them down 3up..3down. Josh had a clutch shot in the bottom of the 2nd running all the way with a 2RBI inside the park homerun. Tony would later cash the 3rd run with a single to right. Once again the Twins were shut down in the 3rd. And thats when the Goobers bats went to work. Putting up 8 in the bottom of the 3rd with 9 straight hits. With the game 11-5 after 3, the Twins looked shooken. And once again they were shut down, not being able to solve the Goober defence, with great plays by Joey Pileggi and Steve Rocha. The Goobers would add a couple more in the 4th and 5th inning to end this one 13-5. Josh Pileggi had a big game going 2for3 with a triple and an inside the park homerun, he cashed in 4 RBI's and scored himself 3 times. Steve Rocha went 3for3 on his birthday night which was a pleasant surprise as he has been having a tough season this year.
The Goobers now go up against the 1st place Sultans, which should be a good test to there skill as the Goobers went 0-2 last time these 2 teams met. Next game is scheduled for 8:45 Maxward 1 as the Goobers go back home in hopes that they can upset the Sultans and make a charge into the playoffs.
Goobers Wrap Up Season In Fine Style

Game 2 now meant a little something to the Sultans, as another loss here for them and they could find themselves bumped out of 1st. The Goobers didnt start the game off great as they went 4up3 down. But managed to hold the Sultans to only 1 run. The Goobers would then put up 2 in the 2nd started off by a big triple by Josh. The Game would not have 1 inning with more then 2 runs in an inning until the top of 5. The Goobers now down 5-4 needed a spark. The Goobers would put up 7 this inning with big hits by Bobby and Matt, The Goobers found themselves sitting pretty with an 11-5 lead. But the Sultans would cut there lead in half with 3 in the bottom of 5. But the Sultans couldnt muster more then another run to end this game 12-9 Goobers. Game 2 MVP goes to Matt Sturino who was 3for4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's.
The Goobers ended up finishing the season with a 17-10-1 record with 35 points. This was a very big finish for the Goobers. As they started the season in the first 14 games, the Goobers record was 5-9-0 for 10 points which found themselves sitting in 7th and very frustrated. But a huge 2nd half to the season with a 12-1-1 record shot them up the standings and put them in the position there in today.
Right now going into the Playoffs, the Goobers are the hottest team running. Right now they are waiting to see who will be there 1st round victim as they Sultans have a makeup game to play. A win or tie for the Sultans means a Goobers - Underachievers 1st round matchup. A loss for the Sultans and theyll find them selves facing the Goobers once again, and im pretty sure they dont want that!
A end of season review will be posted later on today.

Playoff Time!

With the Goobers finishing the regular season 17-10-1 for a 3rd place spot after going on an insane 12-1-1 second half run. It looks like nothing can stop them. The Playoff series are looking like this:
(1)Underachiever vs (4)Houndogs
(2)Sultans vs (3)Goobers
The Goobers on Tuesday opened up their series with the Sultans at Dunton. Now the Goobers have a pretty good record their going 4-2 during the season. So they were hoping to continue their success.
In Game 1 the Goobers started out slow. Being down 3-1 going into the top of the 3rd they realized they needed a big inning. And that is exactly what they did. Putting up a 7 spot to leave the Sultans in shock. Sultans only answered with 1 run of their own. And of course the Goobers wouldnt let up. Putting up another 2 in the 4th and then a big 6 in the 5th to shut down the Sultans and take game 1 easily 16-4. Game 1 Stars were the Pileggi Brothers with Joey going 3/4 with 3RBI's and Josh going 2/4 with 3 RBI's. Now also Brian Robbie had a huge run producing night at the plate with 5RBI's but only managed to go 1/3. Ryan Hooper and Kevin Robbie both led the team in runs with 3 each.
Game 2 Now; the Goobers knowing that in order to win, they got to score every inning. But a first inning 3 up 3 down looked depressing. The Goobers managed to hold the Sultans to only 2 runs though, But in the 3rd the Sultans picked up 3 more runs to go up 5-0. Now the Goobers realized they needed to hit. And once again they did. Putting up 5 to even the game. Then another 4 in the 3rd which left the score 9-8 Goobers. More runs in the 4th now as the Goobers put up 5 again, but once again the Sultans wouldnt quit and kept within a couple runs. And yes of course, more runs in the 5th. The Goobers put up 6 now. BUT once again the Sultans stayed close. With the score 20-17 going into the top of the 6th, this game was far from over. And then it happened. The Sultans put up 6 in the top, and shut down the good hitting Goobers to give the Sultans a key 23-20 lead going into the 7th. The Goobers would manage to hold them to only 1 run in the top. Now, the Goobers being down by only 4, really need some key hits. And it looked like they were going to do it too. They would put up 3 runs early, then with runners on 1st and 2nd with only 1 out we were liking our odds. Matt Sturino hits a hard ground ball, but right at the shortstop who decides to take the easy out at 3rd. So once again runners on 1st and 2nd with Danny Taramino up at the plate. He hits another hard ground ball which looks like it will find the hole, but there shortstop makes a big play and throws out the runner on 2nd to end the game 24-23. This was a heart breaker for the Goobers as it looked like they were gonna tie it up. Game 2 MVP is a no brainer as Joey went 3/4 with an impressive 6RBI's and 2 runs scored. Other notibles were Bobby Chapman who was 2/2 with 3RBI's and 4 Scored and was also walked 3 times. And Brian Fraser who was 3/5 with 4 runs scored and 1RBI.
The Goobers now with the series tied 1-1 need to have the same intensity going into game 3. This will take place at the Brickyard at 8:00pm, We will be having Batting Practice at around 6:30 at the Soccer field if anyone is interested. Good luck goes out the Goobers as they hope to finish off the series next tuesday with a sweep.
The Goobers Are Headed To The Finals For A 3rd Straight Year!

The Goobers are once again headed to the finals!
After sweeping the Sultans last night (20-5) (11-8) The Goobers ended their series 3-1 and are now awaiting the results of the Underachievers - Houndogs series.
The Goobers finished their series in fine fashion as they absolutely embarassed the Sultans in Game 3. Going into the bottom of the 5th, the Goobers were leading 20-0! Yea i know!....20-0.....Thats CRAZY! The shell shocked Sultans finally took there head out of their asses and put up a 5 run inning the lessen the humiliation...but still...got mercied. The MVP's for Game 3 were once again...the Pileggi Brothers! With Joey going 2for2 with 2 Runs and 4RBI's, and Josh going 3for4 with 3 Runs and 3 RBI's. Other mentionables include Bobby Chapman who was 2for2 with 2 Runs and 3 RBI's and Ryan Hooper who was 3for4 with 4 Runs and 1 RBI.
Now the Goobers entered game 4 of the series up 2-1 and really needed this one as they didnt wanna see a game 5. The Sultans only put up 1 in the 1st. But the Goobers didnt respond. A big shutdown of the Sultans in the second led to 2 runs in the bottom to give the Goobers a 2-1 lead through 2 innings. But then the Sultans poured it on. Putting up 6 in the top of the 3rd, it was a very sloppy inning for the Goobers as they made about 3 big errors that prolonged the inning. The Goobers failed to answer in the bottom which left some of the players worried. But then a big shutdown once again gave the Goobers some hope. Even though they only put up 1 run in the bottom of the 4th, they knew if they keep shutting them down, they can chip away at the Sultans. Another big shutdown in the top of the 5th finally gave the Goobers the spark they needed. Putting up 6 of their own giving them a 9-7 lead. The Sultans would go within 1 in the top of the 6th, but the Goobers scored a couple more to give them a big 3 run lead going into the last inning. The Sultans were in the bottom of their order, but an "injury"(yea my ass he was injured!) by there last batter meant that their 2 hitter that inning would be the top of the order. A huge play by both Brian Robbie and Bobby Chapman gave the Goobers 1 out. Then a weak flyball by their lead off hitter gave them 2 outs. Their 2 and 3 hitters would get on via a walk and a single. Now this was a bit nerv racking as their 7 foot tall 4 hitter was up. In Game 2 he blasted out 2 at Dunton so we knew he had some pop. Bobby pitched him outside low for the 1st pitch and he went for it, hitting one off the end of the bat for a lazy flyball out to Josh to give the Goobers the game 4 and series win! Game 4 MVP goes to Joey Pileggi who was 4for4 with 2 Runs and 2 RBI's. Other mentionables were the Robbie brothers who were both 3for3 with 2 Runs scored. Bryan Ploen was 2for3 with 1 Run and 3 RBI's to lead his team in RBI's in game 4.
The Goobers now await the final to the series between the Underachievers and the Houndogs. I know we really want the Underachievers just because we hadnt beat them all season (0-3-1) and with the streak these Goobers have been on (15-2-1 Last 18 Games) there really insnt anyone standing in our way, except for these guys. As it looks now our next game will be September 4th at 7pm Brickyard. The Goobers will be short staffed as they are missing Ryan, Fraser, Tony, and possible Kevin. So they will have to pull something out to hope for atleast a split.

Goobers Sweep Sultans On Opening Day!

The Goobers came out hard at them putting up 11 after 4 innings of play. The Sultans could only muster 4 runs through those innings and the Goobers easily cruised to a 12-4 victory. All Star Of Game 1 Will Have To Go To Bobby Chapman who was 3for3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's. An honorable mention goes out to Danny Taramino who was 2for4 with 2 doubles, 3 Runs and 3 RBI's.
Game 2 was a little more of a test for these Goobers as they found themselves trailing behind early in the game. After the 3rd the score was 6-3 Sultans. The Goobers though, had the hammer and knew they could use that to there advantage, And they did. In the 4th the Sultans put up another 2 spot to make it 8-3. But the Goobers answered right back putting up 6 to take the lead 9-8. The Sultans though wouldnt back down as the ump called last inning, The Sultans went up 1 run going into the bottom of the last inning. The Goobers felt confident though as they had the top of the order leading off. Danny opened up the inning perfectly by ripping himself a triple to leadoff. Sturino would then come up and knock a single to score Danny. Bobby would follow with a double to make it 2nd and 3rd with none out. Joey Pileggi was intentionally walked to load the bases. And the hero of the night was Kevin Robbie as he blasted a liner over the infield to score the winning run. The All Star OF The Game For Game 2 Will Have To Go To Kevin Robbie as he was 3for4 with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI's. Honorable mention goes out to Joey Pileggi as he was 2for2 with a run and 3 RBI's, also on top of that he was lights of defensively not giving any batter any chance at an extra base.
The Goobers Next Game Is At 6:30 Maxward 1 Against the The Wolfpack, Hope to See Everyone There. WOOO!!

After A 1st Inning Hit Fest, The Goobers Get Some Relief And Pull Off A Much Needed Split

Going into game 2 the Goobers realized they needed to have a much stronger start if they wanted to split this series. They didnt really fly out of the gate per say, as the score was only 2-0 for them after 2 innings of play. The Goobers then put up 3 in the 3rd which was only answered by 1 for the Twins. The Goobers though had a 6 run lead in the bottom of 6, when the Twins exploded for 7 runs to go up 1. The Goobers were a bit stunned, but managed to regain composure. They put up 4 in the 7th with a string of 5 straight hits + an intentional walk. The Twins were shutdown in the bottom of 7 and the Goobers hung on for a 13-10 victory. Bobby was 3for3 with an HR and a Bases on balls. Matt Sturino in the leadoff spot was 3for4 but reached base on all 4 at bats.
The Goobers next game is against Techaire Thunder (3-5) at 8:30 (Maxward 1)
Goobers Lay A Pounding On Techaire Thunder

It was nice to see the Goober bats in full swing last night. The Goobers missing Josh Pileggi And Tony Fimograni were down to just 10 guys for this set of games. But that didnt bother them as the put up 6 in the first. But that would later be answered with a 3 spot for the Thunder. But the Goobers offence proved to be just too much as the Goobers scored every inning including two other 5 run innings. This game was over fast as the Goobers took Game 1 easily 22-6. Player of the game honours go to Danny Taramino with a 5for5 game with 1 Run and 5 RBIs. An honourable mention also goes out to Bobby Chapman who was also 5for5 with 5 Runs and 4 RBIs. Bryan Ploen gets the Franny Award in the outfield, during the 1st inning; what seemed to be a routine fly ball catch, turned holarious, as Ploen who appeared to be camped right under the ball, flailed his arms in the air missing the ball terrible....then stood there and watched as Bobo had to run all the way from right field to grab the loose ball.
Game 2 started out a bit shakey. Brian Robbie (Bobo) got the call to start. He ran into trouble early as he couldnt find the zone and walked 3 of the first 4 batters he faced. After allowing a couple runs, he handed to ball back over to Bobby. The Techaire Thunder managed to get 5 runs in the 1st, leaving the Goobers to prove they can come back in games. And they did in fine fashion. The Goobers put up 4 in the 1st, thanks to a 3 Run Home Run from Bobby Chapman. Then another 4 runs in the 2nd, after a scoreless top for the Thunder. After 4 innings the score was only 10-7 and the Goobers knew that wasnt enough. After another scoreless inning for the Thunder, the Goobers put up a nice comfy 5 run inning capped off with 2 Triples and an inside the park Home Run by Brian Robbie. The game would end in style as Bobby blasted his 2nd 3 run homer to end the game in a mercy 18-7. Player of the game honours go to Bobby Chapman, as he had by far his best game of the season going 5for5 with 3 Runs a triple, 2 Home Runs and 9 RBIs. Honourable mention goes out to Kevin Robbie who was 3for3 with 3 Runs, a double, and 3 RBIs. Joey Pileggi also gets a nod as he was a brick wall at short, and another play of the game has to be the laser that was hit to Steve Rocha who made a beauty glove save no look scoop, then threw it to Fraser who made an even better no look scoop, thats by far the best play that those guys never saw hahah.
The Goobers next tilt is against the Twins at 6:30 Dunton. Good luck goes out to the Goobers in that one as they are still in the hunt to pass the first place Mississauga Twins.

2008 MMSPL Playoffs Semi Finals Game 1 - Wolfpack (15-12-1) @ Goobers (20-6-2)

Game 2 was back and forth the whole game, but when you leave the game tied in the bottom of the last inning with the Goobers 2,3,4 hitters coming up your probably in a bit of trouble. A leadoff single by Kevin, then another single by Bobby which moved Kevin to 3rd. An intentional walk on Josh to load the bases, Then Joey made no mistake in blasting one through the shallow played outfielders to end this game 10-9, and give the Goobers 1st place to end the season.
Now....
Going into tonights games we see the Goobers facing the 1 team they have dominated ALL season long. Going 4-0 during the season. With a stupid run differential. 75-33 with 3 mercy's. During the 3 mercy's the Goobers outscored the Wolfpack 57-16. But anything can happen come playoff time. Here are the player stats for the Goobers during the season against the Wolfpack.
Bobby Chapman - 10/12 (.833), (3)2B, 3B, (2)HR, (6)R, (13)RBIs
Brian Fraser - 5/12 (.416), 2B, 3B, (5)R, (6)RBIs
Joey Pileggi - 7/13 (.538), 2B, 3B, HR, (8)R, (15)RBIs
Josh Pileggi - 6/13 (.461), 2B, 3B, (2)HR, (12)R, (5)RBIs
Bryan Ploen - 7/13 (.538), (4)R, (6)RBIs
Brian Robbie - 8/13 (.615), (2)2B, (2)3B, (5)R, (9)RBIs
Kevin Robbie - 9/14 (.642), (3)2B, HR, (9)R, (7)RBIs
Steve Rocha - 7/12 (.583), (8)R, (3)RBIs
Rob Ryan - 8/13 (.615), (9)R, (5)RBIs
Matt Sturino - 8/15 (.533), (2)2B, (4)R, (3)RBIs
Danny Taormina - 8/14 (.571), (4)2B, (5)R, (4)RBIs
Tony Fimognari - 2/5 (.400)
This is very impressive! with only 3 of the 12 players batting under .500 the team average is .570 (85/149). This is going to be the order for tonights game.
1. Matt Sturino

MMSPL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS - Mississauga Twins (20-8-0) @ Goobers Softball (20-6-2)

After just squeeking out of the series against the Wolfpack, the Goobers look to pick it up and start swing a hot bat, the Twins blew through the Sultans with an easy 3-0 series sweep. The Goobers lately have been struggling and really need to find zone that they were in for most of the season. Now even though the Goobers beat the Twins during there series series (3-1) that doesnt mean that this team is a pushover. So far this playoffs Bobby Chapman has been very sluggish with his lazy swings which could cost the team if he doesnt step up in this next series. Also players like Matt Sturino and Bryan Ploen need to step it up as they are in key positions in the lineup. Josh Pileggi was an almost perfect 13for15 going into last night but had a cold night going 1for5 to drop his average down to a .700 But dont be worried, Josh can easily put that game behind him and get back to doing his job as leadoff batter. Kevin Robbie had a big game last night going 3for4 which was huge after he was almost on suicide watch going into last game. Steve Rocha has been swinging a very consistent bat all playoffs so far. After moving him into the cleanup spot he has been a very reliable hitter and has been a great production player. Joey Pileggi still has to have more patience in the box but he has been hitting the ball alot more solid and is finding the gaps in the field which is nice. Brian Robbie needs to just slow down his swing and not try and do to much with the ball. Not every pitch can go the opposite way, just sit back on drive the ball where its pitched, middle is always a good spot lol. Rob Ryan was on major suicide watch going into this game but snapped out of it as he was 3for4 with a reach on error which was great to see, it looked like you were seeing the ball alot better and hitting the ball more out in front of your body. Danny Taormina needs to work on his swing, you have a very loopy swing, so why not try a little opposite field or if anything just try and cut down on the ball instead of looping up at it. Tony Fimognari and Brian Fraser will both be back in the lineup next week so lets hope they can shake off the rust and chip in with a couple hits. Lets lay a beating on Lurch and the rest of the Twins next week, GOOBERS SOFTBALL!! WOOOO!!!!!
Goobers Are Back - To - Back - To Back! Champions!!

The Goobers who were looking sluggish all through the playoffs finally got there act in gear. After just getting through the semi's against the Wolfpack (Beating them 3-2 in best of 5 series) Were tied 1-1 after 2 games against the Mississauga Twins, who until the last week of the season were top spot in the division. Going into the game, the Goobers really needed to come out strong and put up some runs early to put some pressure on the Twins. The Twins had runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 1st but failed to score after a pop out, ground out, fly out to end the inning. The Goobers knew they had to jump all over this chance, and they did. Putting up 8 in the bottom of the 1st the Goobers now just had to play solid defense to shut the Twins hopes down. The Goobers added a few more through the game to take game 1; 13-5.
In Game 2 The Goobers knew they had to do the exact same thing and come out strong. OH did they ever. After scoring 12 runs in the 1st it was almost all but over for the Twins who answered with 3 of their own in the bottom. But then a 9 run 2nd for the Goobers sealed the deal who cruised to a 33-10 victory. It was the first time in history that the Goobers have ever scored more than 30 runs in a game. Josh Pileggi receives game 1 MVP honours after going 3for4 and was a home run away from the cycle. Game 2 MVP honours go to Danny Taormina going 5for5 with 4 singles and a double and scoring 5 runs. And Honourable mention in this game goes to Josh Pileggi who was 5for6 and hit for the cycle plus an extra double. He did reach base everytime as well but once via a fielders choice.
The Goobers will now be entering into there 5th consecutive season as a ball club together. But this time they will but seeded into the top division so there will be alot better competition. Lets see if the Goobers can do the impossible again and go for a 4th straight championship! WOOOO!!! THIS IS GOOBER SOFTBALL!!!! WOOOOOO!!!!!
MMSPL Opening Team Meetings

I would like to set up a meeting with the team, maybe in late february early march just to discuss random stuff about the team or just an excuse to get everyone together for some drinks at the bar. Also a note, anyone know any sponsors that are looking to sponser a 3 peat championship team, i would think our market value is pretty high. I will post more info as the winter continues, but i cant wait to get out their and be playing with the big boys of the mississauga league. THIS IS GOOBERS SOFTBALL!!! WOOOOO!!!!!!!

Goobers / Devils Split Opening Series

Alright, so i dunno if some of these guys were listed on the "Mitchell Report" but this team had some juiced up ball players. Starting with Booker T at first base (Nicknamed "BP" or "Flex") And Chicken Legged Right Fielder who could smash a ball with just his forarm. The rest of the team looked pretty normal minus the few chubbahs, and the basket weaving 3rd baseman whos wickets werent tied tight enough. These guys were pretty bad defensively; making 5 errors in game 1 and another 3 in game 2.
Game 1 started out like a typical Goober game. With the Devils already up 2, a couple errors for the Devils led to 4 runs for the Goobers, the Devils would answer back with 3 of there own in the 2nd, and the Goobers would proceed to tie the ball game at 5 a piece; thanks to Steve's monster triple that burned the center fielders. The Goobers would shut the door for the the next 3 innings and put up a few of there own. The Devils would only muster another 1 run in the 6th to end this game at 8-6 Goobers. Player of Game 1 goes to Steve Rocha who was 2fo2 with a single, triple, walk and also had 2 rbis.
Game 2 started great, after a 2 run inside the park homer by Josh Pileggi, Bobby would smack a double, but would find himself stranded there after 2 straight outs. The Devils would answer with 6 of there own on a few errors by the Goobers. We would answer back with another 2 in the 2nd, but a 5 run bottom for the Devils almost had them running away with it. The Goobers bats though would go quiet for the rest of the game, and so did the Devils as they only put up 3 over the next 3 innings. But the Goobers looked pretty exhausted and didnt look to into it towards the end. The Goobers would end up getting mercied 14-4. Player of game 2 goes to Brian Robbie who was 2for2 with a run and 2 singles. Another note about this game - Both Rob Ryan and Tony Fimognari had strikeouts, this was actually Tony's 2nd of the night so he now the leader to start the season.
The Goobers go up against the so far 2-0 Drillers next week at Maxward 2. The game time is 6:30pm, so lots of time for beers and burgers after the game. Lets see if we can put this loss behind us and show these Drillers what Goober Ball is all about! WOOOOO!!!!
Goobers Blow 10 Run Lead In Last Inning Versus Moose Knuckles

The Goobers (3-1) came into this game against the Moose Knuckles (3-2-1) needing to prove they belong in this top division. And they did just that smacking around the Moose Knuckles for 14 runs, Alot of chirping went on about shooting the middle, but both teams didnt decide to stop hitting there, so nothing really came out of it. The Goobers though had a huge advantage after getting inside the Moose Knuckles heads. The Moose Knuckles couldnt get anything going as they only put up 5 runs in the 1st game. Player of game 1 goes to Josh Pileggi who was 3of3 with 3 Runs and an RBI including 2 doubles.
Going into Game 2 the Goobers had to keep there mind games going, which they did as they held the lead the entire game and after putting up 5 in the top of the last inning, they found themselves with a nice comfy 10 run lead. But the Slopitch Gods were angry with us on that night, as the Moose Knucks put up hit after hit after error after hit. The Goobers gave the Moose Knuckles about 2 or 3 outs and thats all they would need. After tying the game, with 2 outs, and intentional walk made it 1st and 2nd with there 3 hitter up, who made no mistake in going deep to the gap for the easy RBI. The Goobers should be really disappointed with themselves as they let this game slip away from them. The player of game 2 was Bobby Chapman who was 3for3 with 3 Runs and 5 RBI, which included a double and 2 triples.
The Goobers(4-2) next game is against the top seeded Rebels who are now 7-1 after there sweep of the Slippery Clams last week. Lets hope the Goobers can go out and get a much needed couple of wins against the top team.
Goobers Battle For Split Against 1st Place Rebels

Game 1
Brian Robbie got the call to take the hill in game 1, and it didn't go as planned, after walking the first 2 batters, he managed a pop out by the 3 hitter. But then 4 straight balls to the 4 hitter ended his day. Bobby Chapman came in for some early relief, but the Rebels still managed to smack him around for 4 runs in the 1st. The Goobers managed just 1 run in the bottom of the inning after 2 straight outs, Josh Pileggi Ripped a double to left, then Chapman almost killed the pitcher with a laser up the middle that squeeked its way into center, Josh Pileggi scored on the play and Chapman ended up on 2nd, but was left stranded to end the inning.
The Rebels put up another 2 in the 2nd when there last batter rocked a Chapman knuckler 310 feet for a 2 run shot. The Goobers would go quiet in the next inning, and it didnt seem like there was much life on the bench. The Rebels would get shut down in the 3rd, and the Goobers would answer with 2 in the bottom when Tony Fimognari got the rally started with a base hit over the 3rd baseman. Matt Sturino would follow with a basehit to right and Danny Taormina would drive both in to put the Goobers within 3. The Rebels would get another in the 4th, but the Goobers wouldnt answer for 2 innings. After a great defensive inning in the 6th, the Goobers knew they had to get a rally started. And did they ever. Matt Sturino led off the inning with a base knock, followed by Taormina, then Kevin Robbie would rip a double and score Sturino. Josh Pileggi and Chapman would also double to keep the rally going. Joey Pileggi would single after and reach second on the throw home. Steve Rocha after coming off a 0for7 night last week couldnt get the runners home as he grounded out to the shortstop. But Brian Fraser would smash a single to left to score Chapman; and Rob Ryan would follow up with an RBI single of his own. Brian Robbie would end up cashing both on his at bat with a very clutch base hit. Bryan Ploen and Fimognari would both single to cash a runner a piece before Sturino and Taormina would lineout to end the inning. The Goobers would end up hanging on in the top of the 7th, as the Rebels were able to put across 3, but eventually end this game at a score of 12-10 Goobers
Additional Notes For This Game
Bobby Chapman kept his consecutive outless streak alive as he went 3for3 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs. Coming into this game Tony Fimognari was batting a pathetic .083avg but managed to boost that up after going 2for3 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Steve Rocha is on a current 0for10 skid after going 0for3 in game 1. Danny Taormina went 2for4 after being moved to the leadoff spot in replace of Rocha
Game 2
The Goobers had to start out hot in game 2, and they did just that, after Taormina popped out to start the inning, K. Robbie and Josh Pileggi both smashed singles to get runners on 1st and 2nd. Chapman would rip a base hit to score K. Robbie. Joey would then ground into a fielders choice but would score Josh Pileggi on the play. That is all the Goobers would put up in the 1st. The Rebels visably upset by there 1st game defeat got the hot sticks going as they put up 5 runs in the bottom with 2 big flies. The Goobers couldnt manage to push anything across in the 2nd even though they had 1st and 2nd with 1 out. The Goobers would shut the Rebels down in the bottom, and would proceed to put up another 2 in the top of the 3rd. Taormina and K. Robbie would lead off the inning with singles and Josh Pileggi would make no mistake in cashing home Taormina. Chapman would finally get out for the first time this season when he grounded into a fielders choice at first base. Chapman ended up running into Pileggi at first and knocked the wind out of himself, but he appeared to be fine. Joey Pileggi would end up picking Chapman up with an RBI base knock to center. The Goobers would do another nice job of shutting down the Rebels, but couldnt manage to put up an answer of there own. Moving forward to the 6th inning, the Goobers would tie up the ball game when Chapman led off the inning with a triple to the right center field gap. Joey Pileggi would end up hitting a sac fly to left to cash Chapman. The Rebels would put up 1 of there own in the bottom of the 6th to take the lead back. After a Rob Ryan leadoff infield single, Brian Robbie would fly out to left, but would advance Ryan to 2nd on the out. Bryan Ploen would then smash a single to right center, Ryan was being sent the whole way, but a great throw by the fielder would get Ryan at home by a couple steps. Fimognari with 2 outs would come up clutch as he lined a basehit into left to put runners on 1st and 2nd. But a Sturino groundout would put an end to any hopes of a comeback as the Goobers would fall to the Rebels 6-5 in game 2.
Additional Notes For This Game
Steve Rocha finally snapped out of an 0for10 skid with a base hit in the 1st inning. Kevin Robbie was a perfect 3for3 with 2 runs in game 2. Joey Pileggi picked up an RBI in each of his 3 at bats in this game. Matt Sturino and Brian Fraser both went 0fer in this game, even though they were both robbed on multiple occasions by some great plays in the field.
Next Game
The Goobers go up against Comba F.B.I. next week and hope to take both wins. They are at the Brickyard for this one in hopes they can get out of the middle of the pack in the standings. Lets Go You GOOBERS!!!!! WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Who Let The Dawgs Out!?!? No One. Goobers Sweep.

Game 1 (Win 9-7)
After a 3 up 3 down inning in the first for the Goobers, the Dawg Pound put up 2 after a home run from there 4 hitter. Chapman led off the next inning with a single, Big Joe moved Chapman to second on a fly out. B. Robbie drove in Chapman with a single to right center. Fraser would later cash B. Robbie with a single of his own to tie the game at 2's. The Dawg Pound was held scoreless after the next 2 innings, and the Goobers jumped all over them as they put up 5 in the top of the 4th. After Chapman flew out to lead off the inning. The Next 4 Goobers reached base. With runners on 2nd and 3rd. Ploen would single home both of them, and Rocha would triple home Ploen right after. The Dawg Pound could only answer with 1 of there own. The Goobers would put up another 2 in the next inning when Chapman and Big Joe would both drive in runs. The Dawg Pound did get within 2 runs when they put up 4 in the 6th, but that would be all for them as they fall 9-7 in game 1.
Game 2 (Win 11-9)
The Dawg Pound would put up 1 in the top of the 1st. And the Goobers would keep the hits going as they put up 5 in the 1st. Taormina via error, K. Robbie would single, J. Pileggi would knock in Taormina and Chapman would knock in K. Robbie. Big Joe would sac home J. Pileggi and B. Robbie would drive in Chapman. The Goobers though would go quiet for the next 3 innings, but the Dawg Pound could only manage another 1 run. The Goobers then would make them pay and put up 6 runs in the 5th. Chapman and B. Robbie both drove in 2 runs and K. Robbie and Ryan would drive in the other 2. The Goobers took an 11-3 lead going into the 7th, and the Dawg Pound would give the Goobers a scare as they put up 6 runs, and had runners on 1st and 2nd with only 1 out. But 2 straight outs would end any hopes of a Moose Knuckles reappearance. The Goobers would prevail 11-9 victors and take a much needed sweep.
Bryan Ploen was ejected from the game in the 6th after he popped out to complete his 0fer the game. He then whipped his bat very recklessly down the 1st base line, in an attempt to injure an innocent bystander. No word on if he has been suspended by the league, but he will surely receive a fine and less playing time when he suits up next for the Goobers.
The Goober Burger MVP goes to Matt Sturino who was 5 for 6 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.
The Goobers next game is July 1, 2009 at Dunton. We are playing the 8th place Slippery Clams. A sweep is needed here to give the Goobers a nice boost in the standing.
Goobers Complete Season Sweep Of Slippery Clams With 2 Mercy's And 41 Hits On Wednesday

Game 1:
Goobers Clinch Playoff Spot For 5th Straight Year

With The Goobers Locking Up 3rd Place Last Week, They Now Wait To See Who Their 1st Round Matchup Will Be Against. The Moose Knuckles Who Are Currently In 2nd Place, But Just 2.5 Games Back Of 1st. The Goobers Play The 1st Place Rebels In Their Final Regular Season Game, If The Goobers Win 1 Of Those Games, The Likelyhood Of A Goobers/Rebels 1st Round Matchup Is Very Possible. If We Take Both, Then It's Pretty Much A Gaurantee. But As We Stand Right Now, The Goobers Will Probably Be Facing The Moose Knuckles, Who Handed It To Them Wednesday.
Last Year The Goobers Had A Great 2nd Half To Take The League Championship, And A Great Playoffs To Wrap It All Up. The Goobers Though Really Need To Get A Spark Going As This Has Not Been The Greatest Year For Them. They Are Currently Sitting At 16-10 And If They Lose Both Against The Rebels Next Week This Will Be There Worst Season Record Wise.
So Far This Season The Goobers Have Not Been Able To Find A Leadoff Hitter Who Can Hit Consistent Enough To Keep That Spot. Players Who Have Leadoff This Year Include - Bryan Ploen (13/31 .419), Steve Rocha (7/18 .389), Matt Sturino (1/7 .143), Danny Taormina (4/14 .286), Rob Ryan (2/6 .333), and Kevin Robbie (8/15 .533). Kevin Robbie Is The Teams Usual 2 Batter, And The Coach Plans To Keep It That Way. Joey Pileggi Will Get The Odd Start In The Leadoff Hole Next Week Against The Rebels, In Hopes That Maybe He Can Find A Groove There, Not The Fastest Runnner, But He Does Have Power To All Fields Which Could Make Him Hard To Defend. And With Arguably The Best 2,3,4 Hitters In The League (Combined 146/229 .638avg)
The Leadoff Man Just Needs To Get To First. Another Spot In The Order Where It Has Been Hard To Find A Spark Has Been The 11th Hitter. We Need A Player Here Who Can: Hit For Good Average, Hit For Doubles, And Be Pretty Quick To Break Up Double Plays. But Nothing Has Worked Here, Players Who Have Graced This Spot Include: Bryan Ploen (6/12 .500, 2B), Matt Sturino (5/10 .500, 2(2B), HR), Brian Fraser (4/11 .364, 2B), Rob Ryan (5/14 .357, 2B), Steve Rocha (6/12 .500, 2(2B), 2(3B)), Danny Taormina (8/12 .667, HR).
Other Than Danny, This Spot Is A Coin Flip. Based On These Stats Though, You Know Where Danny Will Be Hitting Come Next Game.
The Goobers (16-10-0) Are At Dunton 1 Against The Rebels (21-5-0) Next Wednesday At 8:45pm. This Game Will Determine Their Matchup In The 1st Round Of The Playoffs, Lets Hope They Can Continue Their Strong Playoff Run.
Goobers Softball 2010
We play our first game Wednesday May 12th @ 6:30pm at Maxward 2. The Goobers lost Joey Pileggi this year due to commitment issues with this team and his Hardball team. But in return we have picked up a power bat in Ryan Mcneil which should add some much needed pop to this lineup that has really only been owned by Bobby Chapman & Josh Pileggi.
Last Year was our first year in the top division (C Division, Kevin) and we expected it would be tough, but still the first round knockout was dissapointing. I would like to put a little competition into this years season. So im going to institute a bonus for everyone for this year. For now it will be mostly based on everyones average, but i will add home runs as a category for our 3 power hitters.
Here is what our lineup will be looking like for game 1, given that everyone shows up that is.
1. Matt Sturino - RCF
2. Josh Pileggi - LCF
3. Ryan Mcneil - 3B
4. Bobby Chapman - SS
5. Kevin Robbie - LF
6. Steve Rocha - P
7. Brian Fraser - BN
8. Rob Ryan - C
9. Brian Robbie - 1B
10. Bryan Ploen - RF
11. Danny Taormina - 2B
12. Tony Fimognari - BN
Everyone knows what everyone plays, so i dont want to have to be a coach and set a fielding lineup. So please spread out the playing time in the field, of course i would like some of you to play more than others, but that will be on you to decide that.
Ok now on to the Bonuses: If you complete your bonus by seasons end, you will receive either a 24 of beer, a bottle of booze, or something of equal value that is to your likeing.
1. Matt Sturino (.500avg or 35+ Runs)
2. Josh Pileggi (.650avg or 40 Runs or 40 RBI or 8HR)
3. Ryan Mcneil (.650avg or 40 Runs or 40 RBI or 10HR)
4. Bobby Chapman (.700avg or 50 Runs or 60 RBI or 10HR)
5. Kevin Robbie (.550avg or 40 RBI)
6. Steve Rocha (.500avg or 35 RBI or 10 Doubles)
7. Brian Fraser (.500avg or 35 RBI)
8. Rob Ryan (.475avg or 35 Hits or 0 K's)
9. Brian Robbie (.450avg or 8 Doubles or 30 RBI)
10. Bryan Ploen (.450avg or 35 Hits or 25 RBI)
11. Danny Taormina (.425avg or 20 Runs or 20 RBI)
12. Tony Fimognari (.300avg or 15 Runs or 20 Hits or 0 K's)
So there are your goals for the season, i would love to see everyone surpass them, but at the same time, my wallet doesnt want you too LOL Either way i want everyone to give their all, and lets see this underdog team take out some of the big boys. Good Luck this year boys!
Josh Pileggi Goes Deep 4 Times, But Goobers Let 2nd Game Slip As They Start The Season 1-1

Opening day for Goobers Softball, and what a night it was. Pretty mild for the most part, but not Pileggi's bat. After smashing his 1st home run which im pretty sure went through the clouds. He would follow that up with an identical shot in his 2nd at bat. Then again in his 3rd at bat, this one landing in the next diamond. Bobby Chapman finally had to chime in with one of his own to straight away center. The Bats were hot all around as newly acquired Ryan McNeil went 3for3 and Coach Ploen also went 3for3. The Goobers 11 run 4th inning would be all they would need to wrap up this one 17-6.
The Goobers knew they had to come out swinging again in game 2. After only putting up 1 run in the 1st, the Dawg Pound jumped all over the Goobers putting up 8 runs in the bottom of the inning. The Goobers though would only respond with another 1 run in the 2nd, but a key shutdown led to a 3 run 3rd to put them within 3. In the bottom of the 3rd the Goobers got out of a jam and managed to shut down the Dawg Pound offence for atleast another inning. Now was the time for Goobers to get back their lead. The Bottom of the order came up huge in this inning, with 4 of the bottom 5 batters reaching base safely. The top would do a good job in cashing those runs and taking the lead by 2. The Dawg Pound would even the score in the bottom half of the inning. But giving the Goobers a fresh start was costly for the DP. Once again the bottom of the order was huge in manufacturing hit and hit and raking in 7 runs to put all the pressure on the opposing team. Well they took that pressure and gave it a swift kick to the groin as they were able to put up 5 runs, then with 2 runners on a 3 run walk off home run would seal this game up for the Dawg Pound. The game was called on time limit after that inning so no response could be made by the Goobers, losing this game 18-17.
Now when you put up 34 runs in 2 games you would think your walking away with 2 wins. But unfortunately it didnt go that way this time for the Goobers.
Player Of The Game,/B>
#34 Josh Pileggi - 5for5 / 7R / 11RBI / 4HR / 2BB
Other Key Players
#7 Bryan Ploen was a perfect 6for6 at the plate tonight with 4 Runs and 3 RBI.
#13 Bobby Chapman had 2 big flys, even thought the 2nd one was controversial.
#3 Tony Fimognari picked up 3 hits on the night and scored on all 3 of those hits.
#2 Matt Sturino had a great day at the plate going 5for7 with 5 Runs and 4 RBI.
Goobers Softball next game is May 19th @ 8:30pm at Dunton. We are playing againt the Devils who didnt fair to well against the Goobers last season. Hopefully they can keep hitting like they did last night and pick up 2 big wins.
Goobers Have Now Split 4 Straight Weeks Since The 2010 Season Has Begun, Anyone Concerned? Nope
Bench Coach Bobby Chapman is not concerned. He believes that this years team is the best he's ever seen. New Addition Ryan Mcneil has fit in just fine, and he adds good depth in the field and a good bat at the plate. Also Tony Fimognari has really stepped up his play, after having a career average of (.220) coming into this year, not only has he brought it up a lot but his current season see's him only being hitless in 1 game. And currently is on a 3 game hit streak where he is batting (.625).
Josh Pileggi has also found his power swing already having 4 home runs on the season, he looks to now be a threat to go deep at anytime which really gives the Goobers lineup alot more flexibility with Josh, Ryan, and Bobby in the lineup. Bryan Ploen has been also another surprise player, he was givin the 2 spot in the order on a week where we were missing Josh, but he has been hitting so well that he may have just locked up his new spot in the order. Currently batting 4th on the team in average(.615) He currently leads the team in hits and runs, and his current 5 game hit streak in which he's batting (.625) shows that he isnt slowing down anytime soon.
Now for the unfortunate surprises of the season. Brian Robbie up until last game was batting (.188) which was the lowest average seen on a player in a long time. But he seemed to turn something around last game going a solid 3for6 to bring his average up to a (.217) He still needs to work on his swing, but from what ive seen he is just getting some bad breaks hitting the ball right to fielders.
Joey Pileggi has come back as a part time player this year, but i was hoping that he wouldnt just bring his part time of his game. His defence has always been stellar to say the least, but his bat has been the really head scratcher this year. Currently sporting a .200 average his average has dropped a lot of points since the start of last season. If you remember 2 years ago during the 08 playoff when Joey led the team in pretty much every category and was a huge reason the Goobers took the championship that year. But since then his average has plummeted to just above the .500 mark. Pitch selection could be a big reason for the drop.
Steve Rocha has been held back with a leg injury and now reports of a wrist injury are floating around, he was seen wearing a brace last game and didnt look comfortable at the plate. No news on how long he will be playing injured, but his current (.292) batting average is well below what this man can do.
Matt Sturino(.556) and Kevin Robbie(.542) are both playing well as expected. Sturino's (.667 OBP%) ranks him 3rd on the team which is more than you can ask for from your leadoff. Brian Fraser was moved into the 6 spot in the lineup in hopes he could up his RBI production, he picked up 2 RBI on the night but was a dismal 1for5 to lower his average to (.318). He has been hitting the ball well lately so i dont expect this average to stay in the .300s for much longer.
I will be doing a comparison after our monday night makeup game which regards to the goals i gave everyone at the start of the season, so please check back either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week to get the details.

Goobers Prepare For Upcoming 2012 Season

Alright boys, after a poor playoff run stopped short by a dropped pop fly from an unnamed player (see attached), its time to rebuild our powerhouse team from the early 2000's.
This year's fee is $180, lower this year because I sold all my gear and donated the money to our team....my original goober grey draw string pants went for a whopping $75 on ebay, collectors item.
But seriously, fee is $180 a person and we should have all 13 guys back in action. Deadline to pay me is April 18th. Everyone has my cell # or email and knows where I live so arrange it. You are all adults so make sure you get me the $ by this date...I'm not Bobby so I don't have piles of laundered cash lying around my house from unpaid fantasy pools to front for you. So if you don't pay we wont play.
Should be a good year, here are some rumours that have been circulating:
Big Joe - Took a winter assignment in Alberta where the 'roobs' roam free, so he should be back, ready and quicker than ever, with a smaller than ever glove.
Robbie - Has grown his beard into a Brian Wilsonesque mess, will be interesting to see what's been hiding in it all winter. However, Robbie "roob" Ryan is now recently on the single train, which may lead to a cleaner look and cleaner play on the field.
Tony - Now a married man...has anyone seen or talked to this guy? Let's hope he's been down in Mexico playing for the Charro's.
Josh - Single since last playoffs, Josh has been a loose cannon on the bachelor scene, most recently witnessed riding a tricycle with no shirt on around a gymnasium in oakville, during a local stag and doe. Will he have more control on the field than he has on his life right now?
Fraser - Take what was said about Josh and times it by at least 10. Fraser has been on a wild bender since last playoffs...we may have to implement beers on the bench to keep this guy going. Here's to hoping his gas tank gives him enough momentum to bring the bat off his shoulder.
Chicky - Tony...I mean Chicky needs to revisit his lead off days after a dismal season last year, Tony-like at best, minus the tan, he'll have much to prove this year. Leading candidate for early season SW.
Krob - Has lost all his skill at slo-pitch and now is actually pretty good at ice hockey. Coin flip whether or not he will be ready to play this year...also he's due for another faceball, the over under is 8 games in, any takers?
Danny - Spent all summer in the Mediterranean, perfecting his olive skin. Hopefully we can recognize him at the first game.
Chapman - Bobby "I love my dad" Chapman, has been quiet in the off season...but not on the xbox. Walking in his new house unexpected, we recently caught him setting up a fantasy MMSPL slow pitch league on MLB 2012. Prediction: Goobers vs. Nux in the final, are you surprised. With no time to practice at the Bloor Facility this winter, chapman has been juggling fantasy teams along with trying to find kelly green paint for his spare bedroom already named the "Goobers hall of fame"...seems logical, why would you ever want to use a spare bedroom for anything else.
MacNeil - His skills in slo-pitch far outweigh his NHL fantasy pool management skills. Also, can someone get him a real jersey this year, please...imagine that rocket of an arm if it had a jersey that fit.
Bobo - Has recently become a full time stag and doe host and is questionable to play this season. If he got half as many RBI's as he did prizes for Krob's stag and doe we'd be winning every game! Hopefully he's been taking notes from Brian Elliot this winter to perfect his glove save scoops at first base.
Steve - Please bring pizza to every game. Food situation solved.

Going up against a tough team in the Markland Apparel, a team that just missed out on the playoffs last year. The Goobers though did not seem ready, going 4 up 3 down in the first inning. The Goobers could have easily taken game 1 but they couldnt string many hits together. They never brought more than 7 batters to the plate in an inning, scoring no more than 3 runs in a single inning. Markland Apparel had some hot sticks in this game, going yard 4 times on the night.
The Night would start out on a funny note - During pre-game warmups while everyone was throwing, Kevin Robbie decided he needed some batting practice. So he took his bat and ball onto the other side of the fence and proceeded to hit balls against the fence. Well.....the first pitch he threw himself he launches a towering shot over second base, not the hit he was hoping for. So lets reset and try again shall we. Attempt #2 is a good one, making solid contact on the bat, the ball ricochets off the middle pole on the fence and goes straight up in the air. Kevin now, after hitting the ball so hard that he took his eye off of it. Looking around for the ball, Kevin has no clue that it is coming down right on top of him. BONK. And Kevin goes down. Mostly everyone was unaware of what happened, but a few people caught the hilarious act. Kevin would get back up and be just fine, actually he was too fine, going 4for5 on the night with multiple runs scored and RBIs.
So now this is back to back nights with a Goober taking one off the head, maybe we should invest in helmets and not hats? LOL
Game 1 wouldnt go the Goobers way as they could never close the lead that Markland started in the 1st inning, eventually losing this one 13-9.
Now Game 2 the Goobers still were struggling. Scoring only 3 runs over the first 3 innings. Luckily the Goobers were playing great defence and kept Markland Apparel close enough that a comeback was possible. The Goobers would finally break out in innings 4 and 5. Scoring 5 in the 4th and 6 in the 5th, surpassing Markland and taking their first lead of the night. The Goobers would then shutdown Markland Apparel in the 6th to close out the game with the score 16-13 Goobers.
A lot of good things to take from the first week. The team was without their best hitter Ryan Mcneil, and also missed a key outfielder in Danny Taormina. Team Motivator Rob Ryan was also out of commission due to work reasons. The Goobers were forced to find a call up and Mike Vierno from the Kelly Goobers answered that call batting 2for6 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.

Adam will help us out in the outfield with his good range and strong arm. He will aslo be a nice replacement at the plate for Joey as Adam brings in power bat and good left field hitting ability. He needs to be a bit more patient in the box this year as pitchers arent as willing to just throw you a strike every pitch.
Swire is a good replacement for Bobo because we needed a pitcher to allow Bobby to play more infield. Swire also brings a good singles stick to the plate as much like Bobo has a great opposite field swing.
Here is our projected lineup for 2014:
1. Josh Pileggi (LCF/SS)
2. Brian Fraser (2B/1B/3B)
3. Bobby Chapman (UTIL/P3)
4. Ryan Mcneil (UTIL/P4)
5. Steve Rocha (P1/3B/1B)
6. Danny Taormina (RCF/LCF/RF)
7. Adam Sawoszczuk (RF/LCF/RCF)
8. Kevin Robbie (LF)
9. Matt Sturino (RF/LF/2B/C)
10. Ryan Swire (P2/1B/C)
11. Bryan Ploen (RF/LF/C)
12. Tony Fimognari (C)
13. Rob Ryan (C)
I feel this lineup could do damage from top to bottom.
- Last season Josh took over as the best leadoff hitter in the league. Batting close to .700 on the year is amazing, and when a guy can get on base to lead off an inning there is no better rally starter than this guy.
- Brian Fraser has told me his power is pretty much gone, thats fine because he is still a great linedrive hitter than can still hit lasers through the infield. He is a streaky hitter but lets hope he starts 2014 on a hot streak.
- Bobby Chapman seems to be getting his swing back, finishing out 2013 hitting much better than he has in recent years. Lets hope he can keep up this pace up into next season.
- Ryan Mcneil is this teams powerhouse. He has great deep ball ability to both fields but can also rip you a single when needed. He is a teams perfect 4 hitter because of his stature when he steps into the box, i know i wouldnt pitch to him.
- Steve Rocha had a great 2013 campaign. He seems to be getting his swing back and he has great middle gap hitting ability. I like him in the 5spot because he is a singles machine who can keep the inning going after a Mcneil blast.
- Danny Taormina has the perfect singles swing, he knows just where to hit it to put the ball through a gap. He has great speed as well in case the fielder makes a play on the ball.
- Adam Sawoszczuk brings another big bat to this team. He has great pull ability and should be able to move Danny around the bases with most of his hits. i see him fitting in this spot quite easily but is an easy replacement at the top of the order if needed.
- Kevin Robbie had a terrible season last year but picked it up in the playoffs. That was the swing we had been missing and lets hope he can take last years playoffs and ride it into 2014.
- Matt Sturino proves that he loves to win awards no matter what it is, he had another rough season last year but did show signs of his oldself in the playoffs. I put him in a grinder spot in the order as he needs to get on for the guy behind him to make sense.
- Ryan Swire is a great singles hitter and mostly puts the ball into right field, which is the perfect first to third for anyone on first base (Sturino) and Swire's size will have fielders taking a few steps back only to have to run in on the hit.
- Bryan Ploen is another slap hitter, 3 slap hitters in a row, thats dangerous. But Ploen has good linedrive ability to all fields so he is a great batter for this spot in the order.
- Tony Fimognari had his best year last season. He was getting much more solid contact and was dropping hits in on a game by game basis.
- Rob Ryan brings up the rear of the order, his ability to get on at the bottom of the order allowed the Goobers to have many big innings, he finished 5th in batting average and no one not even Rob saw that happening at the start of last season. Lets hope he can continue his grinder mentality of "Get on at all costs" attitude.
Well there you go, the Goobers 2014 preview. Lets hope 2014 is a year in which we finally beat those Nux!!
And here is a stat i figured the rookies would like to see. Here are the top performances by Goobers in their Rookie Seasons:
1st - Ryan Mcneil (2010) 0.598avg, 33R, 55H, 52RBI, 30GP
2nd - Bobby Chapman (2006) 0.600avg, 34R, 36H, 39RBI, 21GP
3rd - Joey Pileggi (2007) 0.556avg, 22R, 35H, 21RBI, 22GP
4th - Ryan Hooper (2006) 0.554avg, 26R, 31H, 19RBI, 18GP
5th - Brian Fraser (2006) 0.545avg, 23R, 30H, 18RBI, 18GP
6th - Josh Pileggi (2006) 0.541avg, 19R, 20H, 20RBI, 12GP

Goobers Open Up Season With Sweep Of Blue Sox
Hot bat leads Goobers Softball past Blue Sox 23-2
An outstanding effort by Ryan Mcneil led Goobers Softball to a 23-2 win in five innings over Blue Sox on Wednesday at Brickyard.
Ryan Mcneil racked up five RBIs on four hits for Goobers Softball. He doubled in the first inning, homered in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and tripled in the fourth inning. Yes Ladies and Gentleman, that is a Cycle. The 1st for Ryan Mcneil and he becomes the 3rd Goober to ever hit for the cycle.
Six runs in the opening three innings allowed Goobers Softball to easily put away Blue Sox. An RBI double by Ryan Mcneil, an RBI double by Bobby Chapman, and an RBI double by Steve Rocha in the first inning supplied the early offense for Goobers Softball.
Goobers Softball easily handled Blue Sox pitching as eight hitters combined for 22 hits, 17 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
Goobers Softball built upon its lead with three runs in the third. The inning looked promising, as Ryan Mcneil homered, scoring Brian Fraser to kick things off.
Goobers Softball increased its lead with a whopping 16 runs in the fourth. Rob Ryan's single got things going, bringing home Ryan Swire. That was followed up by Josh Pileggi's single, plating Matt Sturino. The Goobers would bat around the order and then some in this inning.
The Goobers would cruise to the easy victory in this one winning it 23-2.
Goobers Softball best Blue Sox in shootout, 12-10
Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Wednesday as Goobers Softball outscored Blue Sox 12-10 in six innings.
The teams combined for 32 hits, including 11 extra base hits.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to six lead changes in the game.
Goobers Softball staved off Blue Sox as Blue Sox was unable to match Goobers Softball down the stretch.
Blue Sox scored 2 runs on back to back RBI singles from the Bluesox in the fifth inning and a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Still, Blue Sox couldn't draw even.
Bobby Chapman, Josh Pileggi, Ryan Mcneil and Tony Fimognari helped lead Goobers Softball. They combined for nine hits and seven RBIs.
The bottom of the first saw Goobers Softball take an early lead, 2-0. Goobers Softball's threat began with a single by Josh. Then Ryan Mcneil moved Josh from first to second. Bobby doubled, scoring Josh. The scoreboard lit up again for Goobers Softball when Chapman scored on an RBI double by Steve Rocha.
The game's last lead went to Goobers Softball thanks to a third inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate on an RBI double by Brian Fraser, a two-run home run by Bobby, and an RBI triple by Ryan Mcneil.
Goobers Softball increased its lead with four runs in the fourth. Josh kicked things off with a double, bringing home Tony.
The Goobers would hold on to a 4 run lead in the 6th, only allowing 2 runs to plate the Goobers would hold on for a 12-10 win to complete the sweep.
The Goobers next game is May 28, 2014 @ 8:45pm Brickyard vs Bricksoxes.
Goober Softball 2015 Preview
The Goobers Softball Club is entering it's 11th season as a team. The team is coming off a 2014 in which they lost in a tight game 5 against new rivals The Hitmen. This season however 3 new teams have been added (Canadian Grounds, ODB, Stubby Clappers) and we lose Markland Apparel as well as the Blue Sox.
From the new teams, Canadian Grounds and ODB came over from a tough Etobicoke division so look for them to be battling near the top of the standings. Stubby Clappers came from the Tier 3 division and look to challenge the best in Mississauga.
The Nux and the Hitmen are both still here and it should be interesting this season to predict the standings with all these good teams.....but let's do it anyways!!
1st - Canadian Grounds (18-8-2)
2nd - Goobers Softball (16-9-3)
3rd - ODB (16-11-1)
4th - Nux (16-12-0)
5th - Hitmen (13-14-1)
6th - Stubby Clappers (6-21-1)
I will be surprised if Stubby Clappers get out of the basement considering the beef in this division now.
Looking at at the squad this year, Ryan Swire's interim job with the club was just a 1 year trial. He was a great fit but unfortunately when a veteran comes back to the club he is pretty much guaranteed a spot. That veteran is Brian Robbie who looks to get back into form playing full time again.
Here are some predictions I have for the players:
#1 Brian Fraser (Bats above .550, reaches 40 hit club)
#2 Matt Sturino (Picks up 10 doubles, bats above .500)
#3 Tony Fimognari (Finishes season above .300, has 10-10 season)
#4 Danny Taormina (Finishes above 20-20 season, bats above .450)
#7 Bryan Ploen (Picks up 25 RBI, bats above .400)
#9 Rob Ryan (Bats above .350, reaches 25 runs)
#11 Kevin Robbie (Bats above .550, scores 40 runs)
#13 Bobby Chapman (Bats above .600, has OBP above .700)
#19 Adam Sawoszczuk (Bats above .550, picks up 40 RBI)
#21 Steve Rocha (Bats above .500, picks up 30-30 season)
#25 Ryan Mcneil (Picks up 40-40 season, bats above .600)
#27 Brian Robbie (Bats above .500, picks up 30 RBI)
#34 Josh Pileggi (Bats above .600, scores 40-40 season)
Looking forward to our first game of the season tonight. 6:30pm Dunton vs Nux. Spring Classic against our oldest rivals. See everyone tonight!

Goobers Softball Player Preview
The Goobers are entering their 13th season together…..Lucky #13 never thought it would last this long and now that we have made it here I hope it never ends! The Goobers franchise started right out of high school for most of us. I remember sitting on the bleachers at the Valleys baseball diamond and overhearing Ploen talk about starting up a slo-pitch team. I asked if there were any available spots left on the team and Ploen said “yea I think we got room for one more”. I would be the 15th member of the Goobers that year. A packed squad full of talent and comedians, this was going to be a fun year….little did I know 13 years later I’d still be having just as much fun as I did year 1.
I remember showing up to Rob’s place the week before the season started. Putting on that original Goobers jersey with Fraser’s face and a pencil moustache drawn on for a logo, there was no turning back now. I was about to begin something that few people get to experience. Hanging out with Fraser on a weekly basis. Playing ball for the Goobers surrounded by very close friends who won’t hesitate to castrate you if you mess up.
Now on to the current season at hand; The Goobers come into their 13th season having 6 playoff championships and 2 season championships under their belt. Ryan Mcneil is coming off his 2nd Triple Crown Award. The first triple crown awarded in 5 years since Mcneil last won it in 2011. Josh Pileggi and Adam Sawoszczuk carry 20+ game hit streaks coming into the season. Adam is also sporting a 113 games played streak which currently sits 5th all time. Bobby Chapman set a bases on balls record last year with 16 during the season and apparently is already trying to best that with 2 walks in week 1.
Joey Pileggi is making his triumphant return this year after a 3 year hiatus down under. The man formally known as Joey the Hat has now grown out his long Goldie Locks and will now be known as Joey the Hair. And Big Joe hasn’t missed a step, looking in peak defensive form during week 1, it is great to have him back!
Tony Fimognari is coming into 2017 looking to get himself back to the man he was a few years ago when he posted a .473avg in 22 games. Since then he has only been able to get above the .300 mark once. Tony had a tough start in week 1 but there are a lot of games left to turn things around.
Brian Fraser won the Goober of the Night in week 1 tying his mark from last year….so already off to a good start! Fraser has lowered his season average in each of the past 4 years. After last season’s .364 I think even Fraser was debating if all those years playing ball growing up were just a dream. Looking to get back to his true form Fraser went 3 for 4 in week 1 so let’s hope he can ride this hot streak all season long.
Big Daddy Mac as he will now be known, Ryan Mcneil is coming off his best season as a Goober posting career highs in AVG, Doubles and OPS. The big man finished 2016 hot slugging 5 home runs during his 7 playoff games. Ryan has never had double digit home runs in a season but can easily pull it off. Let’s see if he can continue his dual threat of power and average.
Josh Pileggi is coming off a playoffs he would like to forget. He posted a .485 during the 2016 playoffs after having 5 straight playoffs batting over .725. Josh also had his first ever year without a home run after never having a season without multiple home runs. Let’s hope last year was just a small stain on his great career. After going 3 for 5 in week 1 I feel he will be back to his old self this year.
Bryan Ploen had a good season last year batting .452 after struggling the 2 years prior. The playoffs however he posted his worst average in his career. Ploen has always been a very streaky player. Looking at his yearly averages you can see the roller coaster that is his batting career. Once a player who would routinely hit near the .500 mark has dropped to around a .400 avg hitter in a matter of 3 years. There is the potential to break out of this spell as seen in the past but let’s hope he can get it going quickly this year.
Brian Robbie has been on a mission lately. Having posted his best season average last year with a .564 he finished it off batting a solid .524 during the playoffs. Let’s hope the new Bobo can keep this roll going. A shaky week 1 in which he was 1 for 5 won’t deter him as he was back to his old self when playing with the Kelly Goobers the next night. I feel Bobo is .500+ hitter going forward in his career.
Kevin Robbie was once a top 5 player on this team…..and up until Joey showing up still was according to career batting average. Kevin though has not done much to hold onto that spot as the last 2 years he has failed to even bat .450. This year he is starting out hot….new bats and with that Kevin can find his swing again. He looked good in week 1 hitting the ball hard and I feel a turnaround year is upcoming. Let’s hope this is the year Kevin gets back into the .500+ territory.
Steve Rocha or Ace whatever you want to call him. Coming off his best year as a pitcher posting a 6.73 ERA in 79 IP. Steve also hit a respectable .457 during the year. Steve is another player who has had a roller coaster career at the plate. Posting .500+ seasons 3 times in his career but twice dropping almost .100 points the season after. Steve has been a much better hitter the last 5 years compared to the start of his career, his career average of .452 is not him and he knows he is a closer to .500 player if not better.
Rob Ryan seems to struggle under the pressure. His last 4 seasons he has posted a .459avg but during those last 4 years of playoffs posted a .309avg. Now if we can just get Rob into non pressure situations he will be a solid player. Unfortunately the game doesn’t work that way and Rob will be up in key spots where we need a big hit. I know Rob will get over this fear eventually but until then we can enjoy his .514OBP% over his last 4 years.
Adam Sawoszczuk started out 2017 with a bang! Just ripping the ball to left which included one over the fence. Adam has never hit more than 3 home runs during a season and only had 1 last year. This year Adam seems to have adjusted something with his swing because he is mashing. His career season average is .544 which is good, but by all accounts is lower than expected for this guy. I feel a breakout season is in order for Adam who has stayed pretty consistent in the 3 years he has played with the club.
Matt Sturino is coming off a year in which he played a career low 12 games during the season. Unable to play late games was the key factor in this. 2017 however should be a much better year for him as we only have 4 weeks of late games. Sturino needs to have a bounce back year after dropping his average in each of the past 4 seasons. His career season average is .463 which has only been reached twice in his last 5 seasons. With Matt playing twice a week he really should be on the upward spiral and not sliding down the pole. He also started week 1 off on a rough patch leaving 6 runners on base after having a combined 10 runners LOB the 2 seasons prior. I feel Sturino will bounce back and be that player who would regularly flirt with .500.
Danny Taormina is coming off a caeer playoffs in which he racked up 17 hits in 9 games for a .567avg and .625OBP%. Dan has also been great at not leaving runners on (16 runners LOB in the last 2 years) ranking him at the top of the team in that category. Dan was put in the leadoff spot to start the year in hopes he can continue his success from the playoffs. He was a respectable 2 for 5 but knows he can do better and all he has to do is get on for the big guys behind him. I could see Dan having a career year in Runs if he can keep himself at the top of this lineup.

Years Active – 6
First Full Season – 2021
Positions – RF/LF/1B/2B
GP – 103 (17th)
AB – 302 (17th)
H – 158 (16th)
R – 96 (16th)
RBI – 132 (15th)
AVG – 0.558 (8th)
OPS – 1.375 (8th)
FLD% - 0.938 (11th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – JP Anderson enters his seventh season with Goobers Softball as a proven and versatile asset. A steady presence in both the lineup and the field, Anderson brings above-average skills at the plate and a dependable glove wherever he’s slotted defensively. Known for his adaptability, he’ll primarily be patrolling the corner outfield positions this year, while also seeing time at first and second base when needed.
Anderson’s bat continues to be a quiet but consistent weapon. He’s not the flashiest hitter in the lineup, but he gets on base, drives in runs, and rarely gives away at-bats. His plate discipline and situational hitting make him a reliable presence in the middle-to-lower part of the order, especially in clutch spots.
In the field, Anderson’s utility value is a manager’s dream. Whether tracking fly balls in left or right field or fielding grounders on the infield dirt, he brings sure hands and smart positioning. His flexibility allows the Goobers to adjust their defensive lineup as needed without sacrificing quality play.
With six seasons already under his belt, Anderson brings leadership and familiarity to a team looking to compete deep into the season. If he maintains his offensive consistency and continues to provide steady defense at multiple positions, expect Anderson to be a key contributor to Goobers Softball’s success once again.
#84 JON BOODHOO
Years Active – 3
First Full Season – 2022
Positions – C/1B
GP – 82 (19th)
AB – 230 (19th)
H – 98 (16th)
R – 55 (21st)
RBI – 49 (21st)
AVG – 0.478 (13th)
OPS – 1.038 (19th)
FLD% - 0.911 (17th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Jon Boodhoo enters his fourth season with the Goobers looking to build on steady progress at the plate and continue sharpening his defensive game. Primarily serving as the team’s catcher, Boodhoo will also see time at first base, giving him opportunities to contribute both behind the plate and on the infield corner.
Offensively, Boodhoo has developed into a serviceable hitter after a modest start to his Goobers career. While not a power threat, he has shown signs of improved contact and better pitch selection in recent seasons. If that trend continues, he could become a sneaky contributor in the lower half of the lineup—especially in spots that call for smart, situational hitting.
Defensively, Boodhoo remains a work in progress. Behind the plate, he’s dependable enough to handle the basics, but there’s room for growth in terms of catching, throwing, and field awareness. His occasional stints at first base will give him a chance to focus on more grounders and trying to catch the rockets thrown by infielders.
Boodhoo’s quiet dedication and willingness to improve are valued traits in the clubhouse. As long as he continues trending upward at the plate and puts in the work on defense, he’ll remain a solid depth piece for the Goobers in 2025.
#13 BOBBY CHAPMAN
Years Active – 19
First Full Season – 2005
Positions – P/UTIL
GP – 530 (2nd)
AB – 1574 (2nd)
H – 1042 (1st)

RBI – 907 (1st)

PLAYER PREVIEW – Bobby Chapman returns for his remarkable 20th season with Goobers Softball, continuing a legacy built on elite performance, unmatched versatility, and undeniable leadership. As team captain and a cornerstone of the franchise, Chapman remains one of the league’s premier hitters and a trusted glove at any position on the field.
This season, Chapman is expected to take on the bulk of the pitching duties, anchoring the Goobers from the mound while still contributing all around the diamond. Whether he’s taking the circle, manning the infield, or filling a gap in the outfield, Chapman’s instincts, field awareness, and consistency make him a defensive asset wherever he’s placed.
At the plate, he’s still a force. Chapman brings a veteran’s eye, quick hands, and gap-to-gap power, making him a nightmare for opposing pitchers. Whether it’s driving in key runs or sparking a rally, his bat remains central to the Goobers’ offensive game plan.
Beyond his on-field impact, Chapman’s leadership continues to define the team’s culture. With two decades of experience, he sets the tone with his preparation, intensity, and calm under pressure. Younger players look to him not just for guidance, but as a model of how to compete the right way.
As he embarks on his 20th campaign, Bobby Chapman shows no signs of slowing down. Expect another big season from the captain—both statistically and as the heart and soul of the Goobers Softball squad.
#88 DARRYL DANILKO
Years Active – 0
First Full Season – 2025
Positions – 1B/2B/3B/LF/RF
PLAYER PREVIEW – Darryl Danilko joins Goobers Softball for his rookie campaign with a strong reputation as a reliable contact hitter and an above average defender. While this is his first season with the club, he’s expected to make an immediate impact thanks to his steady approach at the plate and defensive versatility.
Offensively, Danilko brings a line-drive swing and a knack for putting the ball in play. He may not light up the scoreboard with power, but his ability to get on base and keep rallies alive makes him a valuable piece of the batting order. Expect him to thrive in spots that demand smart situational hitting, particularly with runners on base.
Defensively, Danilko will slot in primarily at second base, but his athleticism and glove work will allow the team to move him around as needed. Whether it’s filling in at first, third, or a corner outfield spot, he brings solid instincts, soft hands, and dependable fielding.
As a newcomer, Danilko also brings a fresh energy and eagerness to prove himself. With veterans around him and a clear role on the team, he’s in a great position to contribute right away. If he settles in quickly, Danilko could be one of the quiet keys to Goobers Softball’s success this season.
#55 SEAN DANILKO
Years Active – 0
First Full Season – 2025
Positions – 1B/2B/3B
PLAYER PREVIEW – Sean Danilko steps into his first season with Goobers Softball looking to make a strong impression as a reliable hitter and a steady presence at the corner infield positions. Expected to take on the starting role at third base, Danilko’s consistency and baseball IQ make him a natural fit for a team aiming to contend.
At the plate, Danilko brings a reliable bat with a focus on hard contact and situational awareness. He won’t try to do too much—he stays within himself and delivers quality at-bats, often finding the gaps and putting the ball in play when it counts. He projects as a middle-to-lower lineup contributor who can extend innings and capitalize on RBI opportunities.
Defensively, Danilko is a solid glove at third base, showing the footwork, arm strength, and instincts needed to handle the position with confidence. His versatility will also be an asset, as he can shift to first or second base when needed, giving the Goobers some roster flexibility without sacrificing stability on the field.
As a first-year player, Danilko’s calm demeanor and fundamentally sound approach should allow him to transition seamlessly into the lineup. If he plays to his strengths, expect him to be a dependable contributor throughout the season, with the potential to grow into a core piece of the infield.
#3 BRIAN FRASER
Years Active – 19
First Full Season – 2005
Positions – 1B/2B
GP – 454 (5th)
AB – 1312 (6th)
H – 613 (6th)
R – 385 (5th)
RBI – 390 (6th)
AVG – 0.467 (15th)
OPS – 1.099 (15th)
FLD% - 0.937 (12th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Brian Fraser returns for his 20th season with Goobers Softball, cementing his place as one of the franchise’s most enduring and beloved veterans. Known for his steady glove, team-first attitude, and legendary off-field presence, Fraser enters the 2025 campaign ready to once again contribute both between the lines and in the dugout.
Offensively, Fraser is a classic grinder at the plate. While his bat is considered average, he knows his role and embraces it—delivering contact when it counts, putting the ball in play, and never trying to do too much. His experience and situational awareness bring value beyond the stat sheet, especially in late-game moments.
Defensively, Fraser continues to shine. Primarily stationed at first base, he brings soft hands, a reliable glove, and strong communication that stabilizes the infield. He’s also more than capable at second base when the lineup requires flexibility, offering a dependable option that never wavers under pressure.
But Fraser’s impact extends far beyond his glove and bat. A perennial Here for Beer award winner, he is the team’s cultural glue—a vocal leader, morale booster, and walking reminder that softball is as much about camaraderie as it is about competition. Whether he’s cracking jokes, keeping the dugout loose, or rallying the team with a well-timed one-liner, Fraser is the heartbeat of the Goobers.
Entering his 20th season, Fraser remains as dependable, likable, and essential as ever. Expect him to deliver steady play, veteran savvy, and, as always, the coldest beer at the end of every game.
#24 KYLE GERRARD
Years Active – 6
First Full Season – 2021
Positions – RCF/RF
GP – 108 (16th)
AB – 302 (16th)
H – 147 (17th)
R – 78 (17th)
RBI – 105 (16th)
AVG – 0.487 (10th)
OPS – 1.205 (10th)
FLD% - 0.930 (13th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Kyle Gerrard enters his 7th season with Goobers Softball as a steady and reliable presence in the outfield, anchoring the defense in Right Center with the potential to shift over to Right Field depending on his health. While his bat has yet to fully click, his glove and field awareness continue to make him a valuable part of the Goobers’ lineup card.
Defensively, Gerrard is among the most dependable outfielders on the roster. With sharp reads, smooth range, and an accurate arm, he’s a trusted figure patrolling the gaps. Whether he’s tracking down fly balls in Right Center or sliding over to Right Field to manage his workload, his glove consistently helps limit extra bases and hold runners in check.
At the plate, Gerrard has remained an average hitter throughout his career—but there’s always a feeling he’s one adjustment away from unlocking more. He shows flashes of power and bat control, but has struggled to string it together consistently. If he can find his rhythm this season, he has the potential to become a much more impactful offensive player and round out his game.
Heading into 2025, Gerrard’s health and timing at the plate will be key. Even without a major leap offensively, his above-average fielding and quiet reliability ensure he’ll continue to play a meaningful role in the Goobers’ success.
#22 STEVE GROH
Years Active – 1
First Full Season – 2024
Positions – SS/2B
GP – 18 (25th)
AB – 59 (25th)
H – 28 (24th)
R – 16 (24th)
RBI – 13 (24th)
AVG – 0.475 (14th)
OPS – 1.127 (11th)
FLD% - 0.906 (18th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Steve Groh returns for his second season with Goobers Softball bringing grit, experience, and a fearless approach to the middle infield. As the oldest player on the roster, Groh leads by example with his effort, toughness, and no-nonsense style of play—especially on defense, where he’s known to put his body on the line to make a stop.
A solid shortstop by trade, Groh also provides depth at second base, giving the Goobers dependable coverage up the middle. His fielding is defined by sound fundamentals, quick hands, and a willingness to sacrifice his body for the out—diving, sliding, or crashing into whatever’s necessary to keep a ball in front of him.
At the plate, Groh is an average hitter who focuses on making consistent contact and finding ways to get on base. He’s not going to overpower anyone, but his veteran mindset and situational awareness help him contribute in key moments. He’s the kind of hitter who understands his role and rarely gives away at-bats.
Groh’s presence adds toughness and reliability to the Goobers’ lineup. As the oldest player on the team, he brings a calming veteran presence, along with the kind of grit that can’t be taught. Expect him to be a steadying force on defense and a clubhouse favorite thanks to his all-out hustle and team-first mentality.
#79 – JIMMY MCNEIL
Years Active – 5
First Full Season – 2021
Positions – LF/SS/2B
GP – 48 (22nd)
AB – 141 (22nd)
H – 79 (22nd)
R – 68 (20th)
RBI – 57 (20th)
AVG – 0.560 (5th)
OPS – 1.489 (4th)
FLD% - 0.874 (24th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Jimmy McNeil enters his 6th season with Goobers Softball as a sparkplug player known for his athleticism, versatility, and infectious energy. While he’ll be manning Left Field as his primary role this season, McNeil’s adaptability and competitive fire make him a plug-and-play option all over the field when needed.
At the plate, McNeil brings a solid, well-rounded approach. He’s capable of driving the ball with authority and setting the tone offensively, often bringing a boost to the middle of the lineup. When he’s locked in, he’s a tough out with the ability to stretch singles into doubles and create problems on the basepaths.
Defensively, McNeil grades out as average, but his athleticism helps him cover more ground than most. In Left Field, he’s poised to use that speed and range to track down balls in the gap. While he’s not flashy with the glove, he’s dependable and always willing to hustle for the play.
Despite being one of the older players on the roster, McNeil defies the age curve with explosive athleticism and an energy level that’s contagious. He brings life to the dugout, keeps spirits high, and plays with a noticeable edge that teammates feed off of.
One hurdle this season will be availability. With his kids active in baseball, McNeil is expected to miss some games due to scheduling conflicts. When he’s there, though, he’s a difference-maker who gives the Goobers a noticeable lift both offensively and emotionally.
#25 RYAN MCNEIL
Years Active – 16
First Full Season – 2010
Positions – P/1B/3B
GP – 424 (7th)
AB – 1253 (8th)
H – 794 (2nd)
R – 565 (3rd)
RBI – 737 (2nd)
AVG – 0.634 (2nd)
OPS – 1.786 (2nd)
FLD% - 0.899 (21st)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Ryan McNeil enters his 17th season with Goobers Softball as one of the most feared hitters in the lineup and a key pitcher for the team. With nearly two decades of experience, McNeil has firmly established himself as a cornerstone player and remains one of the most dangerous bats in the league, capable of changing a game with one swing.
At the plate, McNeil’s power is undeniable. He’s an elite hitter with the ability to crush balls to all parts of the field, consistently ranking among the league leaders in home runs and extra-base hits. His bat remains a huge threat in the heart of the Goobers’ order, and when he’s locked in, he can carry the offense on his own. Expect him to provide plenty of RBIs and drive in key runs throughout the season.
On the mound, McNeil offers stability and experience. As a pitcher, he’s capable of shutting down opposing lineups with his mix of pitches, though he may not be the dominant ace—he’s still a reliable and effective arm in critical spots. When he’s on the mound, his control and competitive fire make him a key piece of the Goobers’ pitching staff.
Defensively, McNeil’s arm is one of the best on the team, capable of making strong throws from third base or first base. However, his overall defense remains a work in progress. While he can make the spectacular throw, he struggles with consistency and positioning at times, making him a bit of a liability in the field. Still, his offensive contributions and arm strength make him a valuable asset when deployed in the right situations.
McNeil’s leadership and experience are invaluable as the Goobers aim for another successful season. With his power at the plate, his pitching reliability, and his potential to contribute defensively, McNeil remains one of the most impactful players on the roster.
#34 JOSH PILEGGI

PLAYER PREVIEW – Josh Pileggi enters his 20th season with Goobers Softball as a foundational piece of the franchise’s long-standing success. A reliable hitter with pop and one of the best defenders in team history, Pileggi remains the Goobers’ premier shortstop and a defensive game-changer—even as attendance challenges limit his availability.
At the plate, Pileggi brings a steady, veteran presence with a bat that still holds up well. He’s a reliable hitter who can drive the ball with authority when he connects, especially to the gaps. While he may not be asked to carry the offense, his ability to deliver clutch hits and timely power keeps him firmly in the mix when he’s in the lineup.
Defensively, Pileggi continues to set the standard. His elite glove work at shortstop is marked by excellent range, soft hands, and a quick release. Whether he’s making routine plays or highlight-reel stops deep in the hole, his defense remains a huge asset. When needed, he can shift to Left Center Field, where his speed and instincts translate seamlessly to the outfield.
The biggest hurdle this season will once again be attendance, as Pileggi lives over two hours away and will miss a number of games. Still, when he’s there, his impact is immediate—bringing leadership, sharp defense, and consistent production.
Pileggi’s legacy is secure, but even in his 20th season, he remains a difference-maker whenever he suits up. Expect big things in the games he does play—and a lasting presence that continues to define Goobers Softball.

Defensively, he sees occasional innings behind the plate, where he fills in capably as needed and helps give other catchers a breather.
Despite not having played more than 10 games in a single season yet, Pisani’s contributions go far beyond playing time. PLAYER PREVIEW – Bryan Ploen, affectionately known as Coach Ploen, enters his 20th season with Goobers Softball as the team’s guiding voice, longest-tenured leader, and eternal optimist. While he may not light up the stat sheet as a below-average hitter and fielder, his impact on the Goobers is immeasurable—and he remains one of the most respected and appreciated figures in the dugout.
At the plate, Ploen has had his moments. Though often labeled a below-average hitter, he’s shown flashes in past seasons—particularly during surprising breakout stretches where he’s turned into a dependable singles machine. When he’s seeing the ball well and finding holes, he becomes a useful table-setter at the bottom of the order. His swing may not intimidate, but his perseverance is undeniable.
Defensively, Ploen’s limitations are well-known, but he continues to give it his all. Whether it’s filling in out of necessity or cheering from the bench, he stays locked in and puts the team first—always. His self-awareness and sense of humor (especially about being outplayed by his own wife, a superior athlete by all accounts) only make him more endearing to teammates.
As the team’s coach, Ploen is the heartbeat of the Goobers. He sets lineups, organizes chaos, and keeps the team’s culture strong. His ability to lead with humility, patience, and passion has helped create a locker room environment that balances fun with competitive drive. He’s also a master motivator—even if his best pep talks come between innings, holding a glove in one hand and a snack in the other.
Coach Ploen may not be the team’s MVP on the field, but off it, he’s the undisputed captain of the ship. As he celebrates 20 years of dedication, his leadership, consistency, and willingness to laugh at himself (and let others laugh too) remain core to everything the Goobers represent.

PLAYER PREVIEW – Brian Robbie enters his 20th season with Goobers Softball as a legacy player whose impact on the team spans two decades of dedication, consistency, and quiet excellence. Though no longer a full-time roster member due to his move to New Brunswick, Robbie remains a beloved figure and trusted contributor during his annual summer return.
At the plate, Robbie has steadily improved over the years, evolving into a smart, disciplined hitter with a clear strength: going to the opposite field. His ability to slap base hits to the right side and work with what pitchers give him has made him a reliable offensive weapon, especially when the team needs someone to extend an inning or move runners along.
Defensively, Robbie remains a dependable presence at first base. He’s fundamentally sound, scoops low throws with ease, and brings a calming presence to the infield. Even in limited action, he continues to show that he’s an above average fielder and a steadying influence when on the field.
Though his role is now more part-time due to distance, Robbie’s presence during the week or two he joins the Goobers each summer is always a highlight. His return brings not just a solid glove and bat, but a sense of history and connection to the team’s roots. Whether he’s in the lineup or catching up with teammates over post-game beers, Robbie remains a valued and respected member of the Goobers family.

PLAYER PREVIEW – Kevin Robbie enters his 20th season with Goobers Softball as a model of perseverance, loyalty, and quiet determination. A longtime contributor in Left Field with the flexibility to fill in at second base when needed, Robbie has battled through injuries in recent years but continues to give everything he has each time he steps on the diamond.
At the plate, Robbie has shown steady improvement over the course of his career. While not a power threat, he’s become a more reliable contact hitter, capable of stringing together quality at-bats and finding ways to get on base. He understands his approach and plays within his strengths, making him a solid contributor in the lower half of the lineup.
Defensively, Robbie grades out as average, but his instincts and experience help cover any physical limitations. In Left Field, he takes good routes and makes the smart play, while his occasional stints at second base speak to his willingness to help the team in any way possible.
Injuries have unfortunately been a recurring theme in recent seasons, but Robbie’s resilience is part of what defines him. PLAYER PREVIEW – Steve Rocha enters his 18th season with Goobers Softball as a battle-tested veteran known for his grit on the field and legendary pizza off of it. While a motorcycle injury and work commitments kept him from reaching the 20-year milestone alongside his longtime teammates, Rocha remains a key part of the Goobers’ identity—tough, loyal, and always ready to compete.
At the plate, Rocha is an average hitter who knows how to keep the line moving. He’s not trying to hit the ball out of the park but can come through in timely spots with solid contact and smart situational hitting. His experience helps him stay composed in pressure moments and contribute where it counts.
Defensively, Rocha is as fearless as they come. Whether he’s on the mound or holding down third base, he has no hesitation getting in front of rockets off the bat—often sacrificing the body to make the play. His time as one of the team’s pitchers has only sharpened that edge, with a tough, no-frills approach and the confidence to attack hitters.
Due to work, Rocha is expected to make about half of the games this season, but when he’s there, he brings a steady glove, competitive fire, and a team-first mentality. He’s the kind of player who quietly elevates those around him—showing up, digging in, and doing whatever’s needed without complaint.
And of course, no Goobers season is complete without mention of Rocha’s off-field specialty—the best pizza in town. Whether he’s throwing strikes or tossing dough, Rocha delivers.
This season, expect Rocha to once again show that toughness, reliability, and great taste—both on the field and in the kitchen—never go out of style.

A bottom-of-the-order hitter with a reliable opposite-field approach, Ryan brings grit and veteran savvy to a lineup that values his experience and team-first attitude.
Offensively, Ryan won’t blow anyone away with power, but he knows his game—and plays it well. His ability to go the other way has kept him relevant at the plate, and while he may not string together long hitting streaks, he flashes enough consistency to chip in with timely singles and smart at-bats.
Defensively, Ryan remains the Goobers’ go-to catcher, anchoring the position with toughness and poise. He controls the pace of the game, works well with pitchers, and isn’t afraid to toss a few chirps his teams way. When needed, he can shift to a corner outfield spot, where he provides reliable depth and solid fundamentals.

OPS – 1.328 (9th)
FLD% - 0.958 (7th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Adam Sawoszczuk enters his 11th season with Goobers Softball as a symbol of perseverance, resilience, and elite-level talent. Once known as a feared power hitter, Sawoszczuk has adapted his offensive game in recent years, focusing on a line-drive approach while navigating a prolonged slump at the plate. But it’s his recent off-field battle—courageously fighting and beating cancer—that defines this season more than any stat line ever could.
Though he’s been working to regain his form at the plate, Sawoszczuk still brings a solid bat to the lineup. While the long ball may not come as often as it once did, his new focus on barreling line drives and finding gaps shows his willingness to evolve and contribute however he can.
Defensively, Adam remains one of the premier outfielders in the league. His range, instincts, and cannon of an arm make him a game-changer in the outfield—able to shut down extra bases and erase runners with throws few others can make. He anchors the Goobers’ outfield with confidence and poise, and when healthy, there’s no one better in the grass.
This season marks more than just a return to the field for Sawoszczuk—it marks a personal triumph. Beating cancer and stepping back into competitive play is nothing short of inspiring, and his teammates will no doubt rally around his presence and strength. His road back to full health may still be ongoing, but just having him on the field again is a massive win for the team and the Goobers community as a whole.
Adam’s 2025 season won’t just be about numbers—it will be about heart. And if the glove stays sharp and the bat starts heating up again, there’s no doubt he’ll be one of the most impactful players in the league—on both sides of the ball and beyond.

FLD% - 0.943 (9th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Ariah Tell enters his 10th season with Goobers Softball as a steady top-of-the-order threat and a fearless, versatile defender who continues to defy age with his energy and hustle. Once the team’s stalwart at third base, Ariah has shifted into more of a corner outfield role in recent seasons—where his quick reads, aggressive play style, and strong arm have made him a reliable asset.
At the plate, Ariah remains a key part of the Goobers’ offensive engine. His ability to get on base, make solid contact, and apply pressure on defenses makes him an ideal table-setter. Whether slapping a single to spark a rally or stretching a double with his still-speedy legs, he consistently gives the team a chance to start innings strong.
Defensively, Ariah’s fearlessness continues to be a trademark. He lays out for balls, charges in without hesitation, and brings intensity to every inning he plays. While he’s no longer the regular third baseman, his adaptability in the outfield has made him an important glue guy—filling gaps wherever needed and always bringing maximum effort.
Though a trip home to Nova Scotia will keep him out of the lineup for a chunk of the regular season, Ariah is expected back for the playoff push—where his experience, leadership, and ability to elevate his game in big moments will be invaluable.
Still playing with the heart and energy of someone ten years younger, Ariah Tell enters Year 10 as one of the Goobers’ most respected and reliable contributors. When he’s in the lineup, the team gets better—and come playoff time, they’ll be counting on him to help spark another deep run.

RBI – 63 (18th)
AVG – 0.391 (25th)
OPS – 1.030 (23rd)
FLD% - 0.801 (26th)
PLAYER PREVIEW – Mike Vierno enters his 10th season with Goobers Softball as a depth piece with the potential to make an impact when called upon. While he’s a below-average hitter overall, Vierno flashes occasional power and hard contact that hint at untapped upside. If he can find consistency at the plate, he could offer some timely production in a pinch.
Defensively, Vierno has room to improve. He’ll primarily see time at third base, with occasional reps at second, and while his glove can be inconsistent, his strong arm makes him a viable utility option if he can tighten up his fielding fundamentals. When locked in, he can make difficult throws and handle hot shots—it’s just about minimizing the miscues.
Due to anticipated attendance issues this season, Vierno is expected to serve mostly in a substitute role. While his playing time may be limited, his ability to step in at multiple infield spots makes him a useful option when the Goobers need depth. If he’s able to stay sharp and capitalize on his opportunities, he could be a valuable plug-and-play piece over the course of the year.
As he hits the 10-year mark, Vierno brings experience and versatility—even if in a smaller role—to a team that appreciates what he can bring when called upon. The Goobers will look to him to stay ready, stay focused, and give them quality innings when his name is on the lineup card.
