Riptide open regular season with 12-2 win


Mike Macchia went 6 strong innings to get the win. Kevin Johnston started the scoring,leading off the 2nd inning with a Monster Home Run. Brian Blaney had two triples and 3 RBI's. The team pounded out 10 hits 6 of them extra base hits in scoring 12 runs.

Semi-Final Game

The Riptide battled back in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring 4 runs with two out to win 7-6. Josh Gruspier drove in the winning run with a line drive base hit over the shortstops head scoring Joe Panchak from 3rd. Mike Macchia pitched the last 4 innings to get the win.

2004 Fall USABL National League West Champions
The Riptide finished the season with a 6-3 Record. The team won their first two playoff games to claim the National League West Title. The players on this team continued to improve as the season went on. By then end of the season the Riptide were playing at their best and could compete with anyone. I was very proud of the way the boys played all season long.

Max Schmardel Throws a NO HITTER

Max Schmardel struck out 10 batters while throwing the first no hitter in Riptide History as the Riptide pounded out 5 runs on the way to a 5-0 victory in Game 2 of the doubleheader against the E Street A's.

Josh Brandenburg went six strong innings in the first game as the Riptide won 6-3 and swept the doubleheader.

Riptide are bound for Cooperstown in 2004

That's right. The Jersey Shore Riptide are heading to Cooperstown Baseball World to play in a National Tournament from July 31st - August 6th.

Riptide bow out to the Howell Hornets by the score of 4-1

The Riptide ended their season losing to the Howell Hornets in the Semi-Finals of the USABL PLAYOFFS. The Team ended the year with a 9 - 2 Record.

Riptide Finish first in the USABL National League West

Behind Strong Pitching and Great Offense the Riptide Sweep the DoubleHeader with the Holmdel Hornets. With the two wins today the Riptide Clinch the USABL National League Western Division. The playoffs start next week.

Riptide Finish Season with 6-3 Record

The Riptide took both games of a doubleheader with the Lacey Wildcats. They won the first game 6-1 behind a strong pitching effort from Alec Schmidt. Schmidt allowed only one run on just two hits.

In the second game the boys came back on several occassions including a 9-3 deficit after 4 innings to eventually win in extra innings. Josh Brandenburg pitched six innings in relief to get the win. Max Scmardel stole home in the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs to win the game. Thomas DenBleyker and Brandon Arnone both had big days at the plate.

Riptide honored at Lakewood Blueclaws Game

The Riptide were honored as Future Blueclaws on April 18th. The team had a wonderful time and the BlueClaws won. Thanks to everyone who attended the game and helped with the tailgate party.

Riptide win 2nd Round Playoff Game 6-1 over a very good Old Bridge Colts team

The Riptide team played great defense behind a solid pitching effort from Alec Schmidt. Brian Blaney drew a bases loaded walk in the 1st inning to start the scoring. Max Schmardel Drove in Alec Schmidt with a sac fly in the 3rd. Andrew Kurtz delivered a big two out, 2 RBI, Base hit driving home Kevin Winstanley from third and Anthony Dyson hustling on the play scored from second. Alec Schmidt had a double and a triple. Jonathon Roth had a double to drive in run in the sixth inning.

The defensive play of the game came with 2 out in the 4th with runners on second and third. Michael Rott made a spectacular sliding grab of a ball up the middle and threw the batter out from his knee's to end the inning.

The boys are playing great!!!!!

Riptide Win First Game in the Playoffs 3-0

Behind the great pitching of Max Schmardel and solid defense the Riptide won today's playoff games 3-0. The boys took advantage of some miscues by the E Street A's and turned them into runs. Ross Reed lead off the 5th inning with a double and scored an insurance run. The game ended when Brian Blaney made a spectacular catch in Right Field to end the game.

Riptide win over the E Street A's 2-1 in 7 Innings

The Riptide pulled the game out in the 7th inning thanks to strong ptiching and some timely hitting.

Ritide Win in 9 Innings 3-1

Max Schmardel and Bill VanMeerbeke combine to pitch 9 innnings and only gave up 1 run. Max Schmardel, Thomas DenBleyker and Brian Blaney each had 1 RBI. Jake Aumack added two hits. The Riptide played solid defense throughout the whole game.

Riptide 3 - Brick Bulldogs 2

September 18, 2004
Bill VanMeerbeke and Max Schmardel combined to hold the Bulldogs to just 2 runs and the Riptide beat the Bulldogs 3-2. Max Schmardel got things started in the 1st inning with an RBI double scoring Bill VanMeerbeke from first on the play. Joe Panchak and Chris Lastella both socred in the 3rd to give the Riptide the insurance runs they needed to secure the victory. The game ended when Thomas DenBleyker gunned out a Bulldogs runner trying to steal 3rd in the top of the 6th.

Riptide comeback falls short

October 2, 2004
The Riptide lost a tough one today. Battling from behind most of the game the Riptide pulled to within one run on a two run homer by Stephen Staba in the top of the sixth. Losing to the Beachwood Indians 7-6.

Riptide Lose a close one to the Terminators by the score of 4-2

October 9, 2004
Joe Panchak had two hits and a walk to lead the Riptide attack that fell short in the rematch of the 1st game of the year that went 9 innings with the Riptide winnning. This time the Terminators pitching staff kept our bats quiet and scored just enough to win the game.

Riptide Sweep Doubleheader

October 16, 2004
The Riptide won both games of the Doubleheader vs. the Ocean Raiders.

In Game 1 Bill VanMeerbeke pitched 4 innings allowing only 3 hits and 1 runs to get the win. Max Schmardel led the attack going 2-3 with a HR and a Double, for 3 RBI. Patrick Reynolds had two bigs hits as the Riptide Scored 15 runs.
Final Score 15-1

In Game 2 Brian Blaney pitched 6 innings allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 9 Raiders. Once again Max Schmardel led the way going 3-4. Joe Panchak was on base 5-7 at bats today. Dan Sita, Brian Blaney, and Jake Reynolds each had two hits. Thomas DenBleyker had a big two run double and Stephen Staba added and exciting triple.
Final score 11-2

Riptide Top Bulldogs by the score of 9-1

Max Schmardel allowed just one run while striking out 11 batters in 6 innings. Max Schmardel, Thomas DenBleyker and Jake Aumack each had 2 RBI. Daniel Sita added a Double and 1 RBI in the 3rd inning. Chris Lastella scored two runs. The Riptide played excellent defense today committing only one error while making several great plays.

Riptide Split Doubleheader with Pt. Pleasant Panthers

October 31, 2004
The Riptide beat the Panthers 4-1 in the first game of the Doubleheader behind the great pitching of Max Schmardel. Thomas DenBleyker had the big hit and drove in 2 runs.

In game two the Riptide played very sloppy defense early and were unable to make up with the bats losing 10-4.

Riptide Season Comes to an end in Toms River

November 7, 2004 – 01:00 PM
The Riptide jumped out to an early 2-0 Lead in the first inning. Chris Lastella had the first of his two base hits for the day, Max Schmardel and Brian Blaney each walked bringing Thomas DenBleyker to the plate with 2 outs and the bases loaded. As has been the case recently, Thomas delivered the big hit driving in 2 runs.

The Terminators got one run back in the 2nd and 3rd innings tying the score at 2-2. The boys from Toms River added two more in the 4th on three straight hits.

The Riptide came close to tying the game again in the 6th when Brian Blaney lead off with a base hit. Then Thomas DenBleyker hit a bomb that went over the left field fence. Unfornately the wind blew it foul by only a few feet. That was a close as we would get. The Terminators closed the door to win the game 4-2.

The Riptide pounded out 10 Runs on 9 hits. Lead by Brian Blaney who went 3-3 with 5 RBI's. Max Schmardel and Will Douglas held the North Howell Stingers to just 3 hits. Thomas DenBleyker, Max Schmardel and Will Douglas all scored twice.

Game 2 of the Playoffs vs. Edison Boys

June 18, 2005 – 04:00 PM
Max Schmardel and Bill VanMeerbeke combined to shutout the Boys from Edison. The offense wa in high gear as the Riptide pounded out 8 Runs. Bill VanMeerbeke has 2 RBI, Thomas DenBlekyer also drove in a runs as the Riptide advance to the Semi Finals on Sunday.
