LACOMBE CO-ED SLO-PITCH LEAGUE
GENERAL INFORMATION/RULES

1. Please have your rosters filled out by first game and send them in to the SPN office in Calgary. Address is in the back of the rulebooks.

2. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted at the fields or in the surrounding areas according to the City of Lacombe bylaws. Let's respect the game folks!

3. Vehicles are not allowed on the fields or on the surrounding grass areas.

4. We will be keeping stats again this year. Winning teams are to update website. If your team does not update site you will be seeded accordingly. Teams have until the Friday before the tournament to put in their STATS.

5. A reminder that no one under the age of sixteen is allowed to play. Parents of sixteen and seventeen year-olds need to fill out the back of the insurance form.

6. Home team on the schedule will be responsible for putting out the bases and balls, and for calling in cancelled/rained out games.  NO CALL MEANS NO MAKE UP GAME!  Weather related cancellations only will be made up.

7. If your game is cancelled please email or call Marisa that same evening so the league will not be charged for the diamond. No phone call/email means no make-up game.  Again, only weather related games.

8. There is no anticipation allowed.

9. Mercy rule is in effect after 5 or more complete innings. Mercy is 12 runs ahead.A complete game is considered 5 full innings if weather does not permit teams to keep playing. Home team must have last at bat if they need to.

10. Recreational league will have a 5 run/inning limit while competitive is at a 7 run/inning limit.

11. Women may use a green dot ball (11") when up to bat if they choose. The team that chooses to play this rule must supply the 11" ball to the other team. This rule applies to both recreational and competitive leagues. Blue dot ball (12") or Gold or Grey Dot is used for the men and any woman who chooses to. Teams also need to have their own set of bases.

12. Your batting order must not have more than 3 men in a row. If you have extra players, your ratio needs to stay the same. If you want to bat an extra male you must have an extra female. During regular season play, opposing teams can be flexible - ex: if a team has two extra guys and only one extra girl, the opposing team can allow all to bat instead of having subs.  This rule is in place so that teams do not load up during the tournament.

13. Teams can pick up players from other teams as long as that team is part of our league. Players need to have played with a team at least 3 times before they are able to play with that same team in the year end tournament.

14. Only SPN approved bats allowed. See SPN website for detailed list.

15. Please no use of the rulebook during games. Know your rules beforehand.

16. Plus Two rule is in effect for home runs. The batter is out if a home run is hit and the team is already up by two home runs. Teams can only be up by two outside the fence home runs at any point in a game.

17. Teams will have an automatic out in their batting order for each woman missing if the team does not have three at least 3 women.

18.  New for 2018 - 65 rule.  Anyone age 65 and over can choose to hit with the 11" softball and get a runner from any base.  Same rules apply for runner - last male or female out depending on batter.

19. Please call teams at least ONE HOUR before a game if your team is unable to show.  Games will not be made up unless weather is the cause.  Teams will forfeit the game if they don't have enough players.

20. Please use good balls if you are the home team.

21. List all players you could be using over the season on your insurance rosters.

22. BE ON TIME FOR GAMES!!  New for 2018 - teams will be charged $50 for no shows.

23. Let the City or Marisa know about problems with the diamonds ASAP.

24. Umpires will be used for the semi-final and final tournament games in both divisions.

25. If your team is playing in a tournament other than SPN, please call SPN and let them know where you will be playing so that your team will have insurance.

26. All teams in the league can go to Provincials if they choose. Top two teams in each division are invited to join Nationals. Travel is the teams own responsibility.

27. 4 - 0 count to a male with a female behind in the batting order. Male gets second base, female has to hit.

28. An infield fly is a fly ball that can be caught by the infield players with ordinary effort.  It is only in effect if there are runners on first and second, or first, second, and third with less than 2 out.  An infield fly is still in effect even if the umpire does not call it.  Runners are in jeopardy once they leave their base on an infield fly.

29. All runners can be tagged at any base.  Safety base and home plate are there for safety but all runners at any base can be tagged out.

30.  Entire plate is in play(fair territory).  When the ball hits the plate on a batted ball the ball is in play as long as the ball remains in fair territory.

31.  Our league strongly advises the use of helmets for batters/runners and masks for pitchers.  As of now, still a choice, but strongly advised.
