July 7 2013
The Eagles spotted the Nine a 3 run lead in the 1st inning and couldn't recover losing 4-1. Todd Toton took the lose on the mound for the Eagles giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, the big blow being a 3 run home run in the 1st, however he was able to settle down and keep the game close. The Eagles offence had 8 hits however key hits with running in scoring position elluded the Eagles. Top Hitter for the Game was Ryan Fox who was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

The Eagles had a record setting start from pitcher Mike Garza as he struck out 7 straight Dirtbags and allowed only one run on one hit through the 1st 5 innings, Then a home run in the 6th tied the game. The Eagles were able to take the lead again in the top of the 7th only to see the Dirtbags answer for 2 runs for a walk off win. The Eagles bats started to show signs of life for the first time since opening day, Brian Drobny and Eric Brown had doubles and Todd Toton finally broke out of his slump to collect two hits. The Eagles have the week off for the 4th of July before taking on the Nine at 4pm on July 7th.

The Eagles handed the Nine their 1st lose of the season winning 3-2, Brian Drobny worked 7 strong innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits and walked 4. He was able to pound the strike zone forcing the Nine to swing aat his pitches. Offence continued to struggle only collecting three hits but worked Nine pitching for 8 walks. The Eagles broke the open their scoring in the 5th inning when Eric Brown Doubled in two runs. The Eagles later added an insurrance run in th 6th on a past ball. The Eagles next play the Dirtbags Sunday at 2pm

The Eagles were within a strike of winning the first game of their double header when a questionable call on a pitch allowed the tieing run to cross the plate. The Eagles would fall behind and tie it only to see the Dirtbags take the lead again. The Eagles ended up losing 6-5 in 8 innings. The Lose on the mound goes to David Hood. Leading the way offensive for the Eagles were Brian Drobny who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs, and Mike Nicholson who went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
The Second game saw the Eagle losing 10-0 to the Nine.

The Eagles Defence let down Jason Copenhaver in his 1st start of the season. That and 5 walks put the Eagles in an early 9 run hole. The Nine capitalized on every Eagles error in scoring 9 run in the first two innings, only 2 of those runs were earned as the Eagles committed 10 errors in the field. The Bats didn't do much better, as they only collected 4 hits. The bright side was three of those hits were doubles, Brian Drobny, Chris Bromley, Ryan Taft and Eric Brown each collected hits for the Eagles. The Eagles Next play a double header on Sunday June 23rd the first game will be at 2pm vs the Dirtbags, and the second will be at 4:15 pm against the Nine.

Eagles open up the season with a 9-2 lose to Hardball Fans of the Kalamazoo Mens baseball League. The Eagles hung in the for 6 innings taking a 2-2 tie into the fifth before an error lead to Hardball Fans scoring two runs. From there the Eagles gave a chance to George Moss to earn a pitching spot howver lack of experiance and nerves did him in allowing Harball to score 5 more runs. The offence was paced by Eric Brown, who went 2 for 3 and scored two runs, as well as Ryan Taft going 2 for 2 with an RBI and Joe Whalin going 2 for 3 with an RBI, The Eagles are in talks with the Kalamazoo Bombers for their next game on May 19th. as of now game time is at 1pm in Richland on the Gull Lake Highschool Field. This is still up in the air. Be sure to check back and come out to the ball field to support the Great Lakes Eagles in the 2013 season.
