Compusult 2013 40+ Provincial Champs

Paradise (CP) - Compusult goes undefeated to win the 40+ provincial slo-pitch championships.

In the opening game of the 2013 SPN Provincial 40+ championship, Compusult defeated Dougies by a score fo 22 - 9. Craig Freake leading the way with 6 RBI including an inside the park homerun.

In Game 2,  the boys in blue continued their hit parade.  Five separate batters hit 1.000 and nine batters put up multple RBI games to help Compusult cruise to a 25 - 4 win over Upper Island Cove.

For Game 3, Compusult continue to destroy the ball on the strength of homeruns from Flynn (1) and Freake (2). Compusult 17 Rosie O'Grady's 3.

Game 4 saw Compusult finish off the round robin with a dominating 17-4 performance against Hub Trophies.  Dean Younge went 3 for 3 with 1 homerun and 5 RBIs. Tony Woolridge continued his hot streak going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. 

In the quarter finals, Compusult defeated Rosie O'Grady's 23 - 4.

In the semi finals, B&B Electrical quickly jumped with 6 runs in the opening frame.  However, Compusult kept up the hitting demonstrated over the entire weekend by putting up runs in 6 straight innings.  Earning a berth in the final with a 25 - 9 victory.  Randy Bouzane exploded with a 5 for 5, 2 homerun and 6 RBI performance.  Keith Hynes continue a strong weekend going 4 for 5 with a double and 3 RBIs.  Jason Fancey went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.

The championship game saw a powerful AFN team jump out to 17 - 5 lead over the first 3 innings on the strength of a couple grand slam homeruns. Compusult altered their defensive alignment by moving an outfielder into the infield to close up the middle.  The change helped Compusult to hold AFN to only 4 runs over the remaining 4 innings. 

The improved defensive play seemed to lift the Compusult batters as the began to chip away at the deficit starting with a 2 run shot from Keith Hynes in the 5th preventing the game ending by the mercy rule. In the 6th inning the boys exploded for 6 runs, once again preventing the end of the game via mercy rule. The 7th inning saw Compusult bring 13 batters to the plate scoring 9 runs on a Randy Bouzane slam and Frank Flynn triple.  Tony Woolridge finally coming into score the winning on a Rick Forristall fielders choice when AFN attempted to turn a double play. 

The team finished the weekend with a combined 0.742 batting average, 11 homeruns and 151 runs for versus 54 runs against. Steve Freeman was named Tournament MVP.
