What do I need for Soccer? / Modell's Coupon Benefits USR!

Soccer season is about to begin! For those new to the "Beautiful Game," only a few pieces of equipment are needed to play soccer. Use the Modell's Coupon located in the Handouts Tab to the left to save money.

Soccer Ball
Of course, a soccer ball is needed. Every player should have a soccer ball. The more "touches" a player has, the better he or she will be on the field. Be sure to purchase the right size ball. Children in kindergarten through second grade play with a size 3 ball. (Players registered in our kindergarten program will receive a free ball from USR Soccer.) Players in third grade through sixth grade play with a size 4 ball. Players thirteen years and older play with a size 5 ball. Don't buy too big a ball!

Cleats and Shin Guards
All players must wear shin guards. Shin guards are worn next to the leg and covered by soccer socks. While not required, most children also wear soccer cleats.

Water Bottle
Everyone should bring water to every clinic, practice and game. Don't fill the garbage dumps; buy a reuseable one.

Uniform and Clothing
Players will receive a uniform for game day. For practices, players need shirts, shorts and soccer socks which are long enough to cover shin guards. At the end of the season, the temperature drops so it's good to have cold weather clothing under t-shirts and shorts. Wear turtlenecks under t-shirts and athletic leggings under shorts to keep warm. Knit gloves with a tacky grip will keep hands warm.
