We are the Dukes Baseball Club, originally known as the West Covina Dukes and California Dukes. A combined total of 30 years and the oldest travel baseball program in the United States. The Dukes Baseball organization originally consisted of 13 & 14 year old Travel Baseball Teams. Currently ages span from 9 to 18u with a total of 11 teams. The program has young men from throughout West Covina and the Citrus Valley, playing in Baseball Leagues at Maverick Field and various Southern California Tournaments. Maverick Baseball Park at 350 S. Citrus in West Covina is our EXCLUSIVE home.
With the popularity of Travel Baseball growing at monumental rates from 2000 to 2005, The Dukes were quickly becoming a me too program among a sea of mediocre travel baseball programs. In 2006 new progressive organization management began the transformation of the West Covina Dukes from the California Dukes to Dukes Baseball to focus on fundamental development of young talent through a system patterned after college and pro programs. Today in a sustained effort to again separate & differentiate Dukes Baseball from every other program, several tools not utilized at the youth level were implemented i.e developed mental training, mental homework assignments, off field self work outs, organization practices, program hand outs, organization hitting sessions, organization position coaches in additional to regular team coaches that teach and promote fundamentals. Since 2006 as the new strategies evolved taking hold over 132 Dukes Alumni have committed to D1 & D2 College and Pro programs, that's a remarkable 10 players per year.
When you teach wining ways! - Winning happens! Additionally Dukes Baseball formed Maverick Baseball Academy creating the RJ Foundation Charitable Golf Tournament and the RJ Legacy challenges series High School games. Our strategies integrate, community, team work, academics, baseball, mental baseball and baseball fundamental work outs during a players developmental years in the confines of a consistent learning environment. Dukes are 13 & 14U teams expanded baseball operations in 2017 to younger ages levels 9 & 11 to high school ages 15 to 18u with vertically integrated core baseball principles carrying players through high school and beyond forming highly competitive teams in our first High School season.
Dukes Baseball management does not promote or promise to showcase players to colleges or pro scouts, however we will put players in the right situation as player or players evolves. Colleges are beginning to recruit at earlier ages, when it does happen, if the players ability is there, the foundation to succeed will have been laid. The Dukes program with years of hard work have developed a baseball relations where it counts. Those relationships are with most surrounding area High School coaches in the surrounding valley. The Dukes, have also developed strong working relationships with most West Coast Colleges and Universities along cooperative networking with Prospect Wire, Perfect Game, CCYB, ABCL, USA Premier, USA Baseball along with recruiters and professional scouts.
What we teach in preparation for the next level is fundamental and mental baseball. We insist on good grades and try to instill the self-disciplines required to produce upstanding young men with self-confidence and character. Our goals are to prepare these young men for their next level, through high school baseball and beyond as we strive for excellence. In pursuit of that, our agenda is ambitious: we will host several tournaments & showcase tournaments at Maverick Park, we travel to major tournaments each year and will always have designs to finish in a World Series or National Championship.
A learning & developmental environment is provided at a first class facility that includes organizational coaches, double tunnel covered batting cage, Indoor bullpens & outdoor bullpens, state of the art LED lighting system for the cage, hitting stations, video analysis, Flight Scope Analytics, training equipment and quality coaching staffs; all tools of the program. Our newest facility improvement is the quad bullpen with LED lights. The 6 station baseball training circuit planned for 2019 was pushed back for the Club House Locker room with Video Room scheduled for completion by Dec 2020. These amenities are not fee for service based menu line items, these tools are included in a minimal monthly program fee.
Our motto is:
"We throw leather, play under control, support teammates, challenge opponents and get down in the dirt.... Dukes Baseball."
Our program develops fine student / athletes, who excel in the classroom and on the field. The results of hitting the books first, then hitting baseballs, has prepared our graduates for high, school, college and college baseball. More than 25 past alumni are playing or retired are from professional baseball.... What goes around, comes around..... quality, it's a beautiful thing!
Like all good things in life, the Dukes success does not come easy. It takes hard work and dedication from the coaches, the players and their parents. So come join us and “Let’s Play Ball”.
I had the opportunity to watch the 13's play several times this season and was very encouraged by the quality of play. Pitching and hitting were stellar, defensively the team needs to continue to improve as most do at this age. Winter is always about growth and development, the 13's from try outs though the season became a team to recon with during the 2012 spring season. We look forward to watching this team come into it's own in the Spring Season.
DURING THIS DOWN TIME THE DUKES PROGRAM WILL BE HAVING VOLUNTARY JOINT 13 & 14 WORKOUTS THURSDAY EVENINGS. THESE WORK OUTS ARE OPEN WORK OUTS FOR PLAYERS INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE DUKES ORGANIZATION.
