GENERAL INFORMATION
Brockton Youth Cheerleading Red team is a competitive team. They do not cheer for a sports team or school but to empower themselves as athletes. The program is built around teamwork and being the best person they can be.
Age Requirements: Cheerleaders must be 9 years old and no more than 14 years old.
The 2010-2011 season will include training in the following areas:
Conditioning – consists of stretching, running laps, sit ups, push ups etc. this is needed to help the cheerleaders gain muscle control in order to ensure safety for all our cheerleaders. This helps them develop the skills and strength to help them be better equipped to avoid injury.
Cheering– involves perfecting motions (synchronization, arm placement and sharpness), communication skills (voice, facial expressions, confidence), learning to engage the crowd.
Jumps- involves learning and working on synchronization flexibility, and height of all jumps (t-jumps, tuck jumps, straddle, pike, russians, hurdlers and herkies)
Tumbling- Tumbling is an important part of competitive cheerleading. We will be working on perfecting splits, cartwheels, round offs, handsprings and more. We will start with the fundamental skills (rolls, handstands, cartwheels) and build upwards (walkovers and handsprings). Every cheerleader is asked to try each skill. Spotters will be available.
Stunting – Stunting includes 3 major positions Basing, Spotting and Flying. Cheerleaders could be asked to try all of the areas. We will start with the fundamentals of stunting (balance, proper positioning, proper lifting techniques) then to basics (step up drills, thigh stands, shoulder sits) next to intermediate/advanced stunting (elevators, elevator extensions, pop cradles, basket tosses, liberties etc)
Dance (cheer dance)- We will be working on dances for competitions and events. Most of our dancing includes some stunting. The dances are closest to hip-hop type of dancing but include cheer motions and enthusiasm.
