Rules and Regulations:
1. Games are played half court, games will be 25 minutes or first team to 35 points or more and ahead by 7 points. Or the first team to reach 40, regardless of the time remaining in the game.
2. Two games will be played at the same time and the clock will start when both teams are ready to begin.
3. Prior to the game, a 3-point line shoot-off will determine the team who starts the game with possession of the ball.
4. Due to tight scheduling restraints, we must start every game on time. Teams may start with 2 players, but if a team doesn’t have two players; then the other team is awarded one point for every minute they are not ready to start and that same amount in minutes is reduced from their allotted game time. If both teams are late and not ready to play, then no points will be awarded, but the actual game should start ASAP as the clock will be running.
5. Each team will play (4) games per night, all games will be played once a week on Wednesday’s beginning January 24, 2007 at Wright Cuney Recreation Center.
6. The 3-point shot is in effect, 3 points for a shot made behind the arc and 2 points for any shot made within the arc.
7. Stalling is not allowed, the 5 second zone rule is in effect. The defense will have 3 seconds to check the ball.
8. Substitutions are permitted after a made basket or during any stoppage of play.
9. The possession changes after each made basket (no-make-it-take-it).
10. The offensive person can dribble or pass the ball (but not shoot) after the defense has checked the ball. If the in-bounder attempts a shot without first dribbling, the non-offending team will receive the ball and the shot will not count.
11. Every time the ball changes possession, it must be taken back (both feet) anywhere behind the 3-point line. If the ball is not taken back, then it will result in a turnover.
12. A ball striking the side or the underside of the backboard shall be in play. A ball that strikes the basket supports or a ball that crossed over the backboard shall be out of bounds.
13. If the ball goes out-of-bounds the offensive team must check the ball with the defensive team at the top of the key, at the 3-point line arc.
14. Alternating possession on all jump balls will be in affect. The first alternating possession will be given to the team that didn't start the game with the ball. The alternating order will continue through out the game.
15. The game is self-officiated on the honor system. Either team may call fouls at any time, only the player being fouled should call the foul. However, calls are usually reserved for fouls, by the defense, which deprive an offensive player from scoring and/or fouls, by the offense, which enable a basket to be scored by an unfair act by an offensive player against a defensive player. Off the ball fouls should rarely be called, just as violations such as traveling or carrying. Constant calling of trivial fouls will take away from game time and decrease the general enjoyment of the game.
16. 3-point plays on shooting fouls will not take place. If a shot is made and the player is fouled, then the foul is disregarded and the possession changes.
17. No hats/caps/bandanas/sunglasses
18. No Jewelry is allowed, with the exception of Medical Alert Tags. Participants may not cover up jewelry with tape, band-aids or other such items, all jewelry must be removed. Flat and/or smooth rings are permitted.
19. Any hard braces must be covered and padded, no casts or splints (hard or soft).
20. Misconduct of spectators, players or coaches can result in ejection or forfeiture of the game.
21. Unsportsmanlike conduct is not permitted and includes any of the following and will result in player ejection plus a one week suspension:
a. Any profanity after a player has been warned, Wright Cuney Rec Ctr does not allow profanity.
b. Fighting that includes a punch being thrown at anyone
c. Flagrant Fouls that results in injury to someone
d. Destruction or abuse of Wright Cuney Rec Ctr property and you could also be subject to arrest.
22. Court Monitors: Each team must have one player from their team be the court monitor, each team will have to monitor two games per night, some monitoring will have to be before their teams first game or after their teams last game. The court monitors’ job it is to keep score, and rule on any disputes. If the court monitor feels that he cannot fairly rule on the dispute, then the team that last had possession of the ball shall retain possession from the 3-point line at the top of the key.
23. No timeouts – if play needs to be halted for a serious injury, the court monitor will record the clock time and the injury time will be made up at the end of the 20 minutes.
24. All players must sign a waiver before they can participate. Players should participate understanding that participation is completely voluntary and the game of basketball is a contact sport and injuries (while mostly minor) do occur. American National Insurance Company and/or Wright Cuney Recreation Center are not responsible for injuries incurred while participating.
25. No American National Insurance Company funds will be allotted for the league, therefore no prizes will be given to any teams and if you want to purchase team jerseys, it is solely up to you. This is a fully self-funded league run by the employees of American National Insurance Company.
